Cork 3-21 Waterford 0-9
Report from the Irish Independent newspaper
Cork’s juniors fired 2-15 in an impressive second-half showing on Saturday night to march on to next month’s Munster final. With five of last year’s U-21 team on board, Paul McCarthy’s side were in ruthless form and administered a 21-point hammering. Corner-forward Eoghan Buckley led the way with 1-5, while Michael O’Leary bossed the midfield exchanges.
John Cronin slid home a goal on 15 minutes after he cut through from the left wing and three unanswered points by Buckley, Ryan Harkin and Killian O’Hanlon allowed the visitors to open a 1-6 to 0-5 lead at the interval. Déise attackers Conor McGrath and Shane Walsh bagged two points each.
Roy Downey stepped in for the black carded Sean T O’Sullivan and claimed 0-3 as the Rebels cut loose and Buckley palmed in their second goal 10 minutes from time. From the next attack, Seamus Hickey calmly added a third, as the full-forward division totalled 2-13. McGrath was Waterford’s most potent threat and registered four points. The Rebels will meet either Kerry or Limerick on June 27.
