Munster GAA Bursaries

GAA National Bursaries scheme (€1,000 per year) for students attending Higher Education colleges

Bursaries will be administered by the Provincial Councils and awarded in accordance with the conditions outlined below and any additional criteria laid down by individual Provincial Councils

Application will be open to members of the Association who are attending a full-time Higher Education course (except those who hold another GAA-related or college scholarship/bursary) and who are active participants in their Higher Education club. Candidates may be awarded bursaries in successive years (limit of two years only), subject to passing exams and satisfactory evidence of a significant contribution to the college club.

All applications will be considered by a Provincial sub-committee which will include representatives nominated by the Provincial Council and representatives of Comhairle Ard-Oideachais/ Higher Education colleges. The sub-committee will be chaired by one of the Provincial representatives and will decide the applicants to be awarded the bursary in colleges in that province, having consulted with the committee of the relevant college GAA club

There will be a cap placed on the number of awards granted per college. In deciding the number of awards made to an individual college, the number of students involved in hurling and football activity within the college will be taken into account

The recipients will be selected on the basis of their playing commitment and administrative/coaching commitment to the college club. 20% of all awards in each province each year will be granted to students excelling in the areas of coaching and administration.

Payment will be made annually in two installments of €500

Additional Criteria Munster – National Bursaries Scheme

Applicants for bursaries in the province of Munster must fulfill the following additional criteria to be considered:

Be a member of a GAA Club unit in one of the six Munster counties, either in a playing or administrative capacity

Attend a Third Level College within the province of Munster

Bursary Applications will be reviewed by a Provincial sub-committee comprised of representatives nominated by the Council and representatives of the College Management Staff and the college GAA Development Officer.

Responsibility for awarding of Bursaries rests with the Provincial sub-committee. Their decision shall be final and binding and there will be no recourse to any arbitration by an unsuccessful applicant.

Bursaries will be paid in two installments of €500 each on written application by the college and subject to satisfactory performance by the Applicant. Criteria and qualifications for bursaries shall be reviewed by the Council from time to time. Each bursary shall be reviewed each year and all recipients must re-apply every year
