Christy Ring Cup Round 2A

Kerry 2-10 Down 3-11

Report from the GAA.ie web site

A late Down rally at Austin Stack Park in Tralee ensured the Mourne men came away with the spoils on a 3-11 to 2-10 scoreline. The home side held a narrow advantage at the break with full-forward James McCarthy getting the crucial goal after 30 minutes. Outside of McCarthy, Shane Brick scored all of Kerry’s points in the opening 35 minutes. Brick continued his good form for the Kingdom in the second-half but Down’s Simon Wilson was more than his equal from placed balls and in general play. Gareth Johnson goaled for Down after 11 minutes of the second-half but Kerry’s John Mike Dooley pushed the home side 2-9 to 2-8 ahead with a poachers goal.2 However, Down finished the better and Johnson’s second goal put the final nail in Kerry’s coffin.
