MUNGRET ST PAUL’S 1-9 ROANMORE 0-2

Limerick champions Mungret St Paul’s are into the Munster Club IFC final following a dominant display that saw them to a 1-9 to 0-2 victory over Roanmore in Walsh Park.

Mungret were in control from the moment Jack McCarthy landed the first score in the third minute with Roanmore running out of ideas early in the game.

The Waterford side were poor in front of goal with four shots from distance dropping short and only managed two scores during the 60 minutes.

Many of their issues came as a result of some excellent Mungret defending and some superb counter attacking.

However, Roanmore were their own worst enemies at times with a Brian Nolan error leading to the Mungret goal.

Mungret were without their captain and influential centre forward John Hutton who was on honeymoon but they showed no ill effects of his absence with McCarthy putting them in front early doors.

Shane Barry was a constant threat at full forward and Roanmore were unable to derail his progress when he landed his first of the game on six minutes.

Roanmore had a glorious chance to go in front moments later when a fine team move opened up the door for Eddie Nolan but he was denied by an excellent stop by Mungret netminder Ronan McElligott.

The Waterford side’s captain Dean Reidy eventually hit the target to reduce the lead to one but Mungret were soon on the front foot with the game’s only goal.

Brian Nolan had a sideline ball in midfield but his attempted pass was intercepted by Brian Barry.

The play eventually found Eoin Ryan in space and he delivered a stunning finish to the top corner to put his side 1-2 to 0-1 in front.

Mungret smelled blood and followed up with efforts from Shane Barry and Brendan Giltenane that saw them six points to the good.

Another from Shane Barry after a long busting James Garvey run then made that advantage at seven in the lead up to half time.

A mishit Eddie Nolan free was diverted towards goal by Waterford hurler Billy Nolan just on the half time whistle but McElligott was on hand to produce a superb save that was followed by a punch clear by Killian Ryan on the goaline.

Mungret kept on the front foot in the second half with Shane Barry and Ryan adding to their lead before an Eddie Nolan mark saw Roanmore on the board once again.

However, it was Mungret that finished the game in style with a huge impact from the bench.

Diarmuid Hynes and Darragh Bridgeman put the game beyond any doubt with excellent scores that saw Mungret to a comfortable victory.
