Description:

A Munster Hurling Development Roadshow took place on Monday September 1st at Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh Cork.

The overall objective of this roadshow was to identify ways to collaborate further across all levels of our Association to grow Hurling further in Munster and nationally.

The Speakers on the night included Kieran Leddy (Munster GAA CEO), Joe Carton (Munster GAA Games Manager for Hurling), Jarlath Burns (GAA President), Terry Reilly (Hurling Development Committee Chairperson) and William Maher (Head of Hurling).



Agenda

1. Promote and Reinforce Commitment to Hurling

  • Signal the GAA’s top-level support for hurling development at all levels, particularly in developing counties.
  • Reinforce the importance of hurling as a core element of the Association’s identity and future.

2. Engage Directly with Local Stakeholders

  • Facilitate open dialogue with county boards, clubs, coaches, and players.
  • Gather on-the-ground feedback about the challenges and opportunities facing hurling in each region.

3. Present National Hurling Development Strategy overview

  • Outline the key pillars of the GAA’s national hurling development plan.
  • Explain how counties and provinces can access support (coaching, funding, infrastructure).

4. Encourage Collaboration and Local Action

  • Promote coordinated planning between County Executives, Games Development Officers (GDOs), and the national Hurling development Committee.
  • Highlight examples of best practice and encourage counties to adopt tailored local action plans.

5. Boost Visibility and Momentum for Change

  • Create public awareness and media attention around hurling development.
  • Inspire local commitment by demonstrating leadership and long-term vision.
