ESB Munster Minor Football Championship Semi-Final – Kerry 2-15 Limerick 0-7

May 12, 2010 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Kerry defeated Limerick by 2-15 to 0-7  in the ESB Munster Minor Football Championship Semi-Final on Wednesday at Newcastlewest.

Prolific O’Grady shows Treaty no mercy

From the Irish Indpendent newspaper

Thursday May 13 2010

Kerry proved far too strong for Limerick at Newcastle West last night. They showed that they will be a side to be reckoned this year and in Gavin O’Grady they possess a prolific scorer from play and from frees. He finished with 1-6 to his credit, five of the points coming from frees. The Kingdom will surely face stronger opposition than on this occasion as Limerick were very disappointing and the gulf in standard in the province was clear.

The game was only 25 seconds under way when O’Grady had Kerry’s first point. Danny Frewen levelled for Limerick before O’Grady hit another Kerry point. It was level again after 12 minutes when midfielder Padraig Scanlon pointed a Limerick free. But that was as good as it got for the losers, who were outplayed for the remainder of a half that had five minutes of stoppage-time. O’Grady had his third point and others followed from Eanna O’Connor, Garry O’Leary, Thomas Hickey (two) and just on half-time Kerry struck for a goal that killed off the Limerick challenge.

A fine movement out of defence ended with Shaun Keane giving John Greaney in the Limerick goal no chance to make it 1-8 to 0-2 at the break, with Limerick only managing only a single point from play during the half. Showing no mercy, Kerry picked up where they left off with O’Grady putting over two frees. Then O’Connor scored two from play before O’Grady got a second goal for the Kingdom who ran out the easiest of winners.
