A stunning Limerick display saw them trounce Cork, in what may go down as one of the best performances from John Kiely’s men. It is also a result that sees All Ireland holders Clare out of the Championship.

Limerick will advance, alongside Tipperary from the Munster Championship, knowing a positive result next week could book their spot in a seventh Munster final on the trot.

The 16 point margin of victory mirrors the same margin from the 2022 All Ireland final.

The Shannonsiders were simply sensational in the opening half, playing in front of a boisterous home following at a sold out TUS Gaelic Grounds, which saw 42,477 through the turnstiles.

This victory was thanks to stunning passing, accurate shooting and a superb work ethic that has defined this great Limerick team.

Cork, struggled, surprisingly to reach the level the had against Clare and Tipperary, with the movement of the Limerick forwards causing them unprecedented problems.

After suffering two defeats to Pat Ryan’s men last year, Limerick looked motivated and determined to re-claim the bragging rights against their neighbours.

Aaron Gillane rattled the net inside three minutes, turning the Cork cover in the corner, bouncing the ball off the net before blasting past Patrick Collins. This added to two quick-fire Tom Morrissey points, to open up an early five point lead.

Cork, through Patrick Horgan (free) and then Mark Coleman got settled but they soon lost Declan Dalton to injury.

By the 15 minute mark, Limerick continued to lead, now by six as Gillane and Morrissey were joined on the scoresheet by Adam English.

Cork were struggling and a Brian Hayes point was needed, but another burst from Limerick saw them hit five of the next six points – including efforts from Mike Casey and Shane O’Brien.

Patrick Horgan was denied a green flag when Nickie Quaid was sharp to repel his goalbound affort on 24 minutes. Gearoid Hegarty ruthlessly punishing this at the other end, with a point.

Cian Lynch’s fingerprints were all over plenty of Treaty, including an assist for English, who raced beyond the cover and bounced the ball into the net.

The captain, from Patrickswell, slotted a point on the next play, despite not looking towards the posts – to the glee of the Limerick support.

By half-time, a total dominance from the hosts saw them clear by a staggering 15 points – 2-18 to 0-9. Brian Roche’s late point had cut the gap, but it wasn’t enough after Gearoid Hegarty, Morrissey and then Diarmaid Byrnes all had their radar working.

The first six points of the shared equally, before Patrick Horgan’s three frees and a point from Seamus Harnedy brought the margin back to 11. Cathal O’Neill and Gillane steading things for Limerick.

There was feint hope when Patrick Horgan buried a 20 meter free, however, Eoin Downey felled Gillane who second his second goal, this time from a penalty.

Peter Casey’s stoppage time point ensured Limerick would be second half winners, by a point.

Limerick host Clare next Sunday, while at the same time, Waterford are the visitors to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Cork know that a draw will be enough to see them advance in third place, a win could set up a Munster final meeting with Limerick.

Munster GAA are delighted to announce that The Oars will perform a 40 minute set from 2:35pm prior to the Munster Senior Hurling Championship game on Sunday next at the TUS Gaelic Grounds between Limerick and Cork at 4pm

Gates will open at 2pm.

The OARS (@theoarsmusic) is a new contemporary duo featuring songwriter/guitarist Eoin Coughlan and multi-instrumentalist Brian Morrissey. Their debut album was recorded and produced in Louisiana by multi-Grammy winner Dirk Powell. The OARS recently supported the iconic band The Stunning and wowed audiences across the country while touring with Damien Dempsey in April 2025. The OARS are delighted to be performing on the hallowed turf of the Gaelic Grounds for the titanic Munster Championship clash between Limerick and Cork and will be joined by Hermitage Green’s brilliant percussionist Dermot Sheedy and virtuosic fiddle player, Cathal Clohessy from Limerick.

The OARS also performed at Thomond Park recently for the Munster v Ulster clash and they will take to the stage in many iconic venues and festivals across Ireland and Europe over the coming months.

The council has issued this advice ahead of the sold-out encounter

As the sunny spell continues, a fantastic match day atmosphere is forecast for the sold-out game between Limerick and Cork at TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick this Sunday.

Over 44,000 people are expected to attend the Munster Senior Hurling Championship clash, with throw-in at 4pm.

Park and Stride

Supporters are advised to arrive early to secure parking. Park in the city and make the most of the pre-match atmosphere before walking to the stadium. There are over 9,000 designated car parking spaces in Limerick City, over 4,000 on-street and over 5,000 in privately operated car parks. On-street parking is free on Sunday!

Familiarise yourself with road closures and the Garda Traffic Management plan (below) to ensure a smooth journey.

Pride in the County

Limerick City and County Council encourage all attendees to enjoy the game and be respectful to each other, as well as to Limerick businesses and residents, particularly those in the vicinity of the stadium.

To help keep Limerick clean, please use the additional bins provided by LCCC along all routes and in the vicinity of TUS Gaelic Grounds for your litter. Council cleansing staff will also be hard at work during and after the game.

Garda Policing and Traffic Management Plan

To cater for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship game, Limerick versus Cork at 4pm on Sunday 18th May 2025 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, Ennis Road, Limerick City, a capacity crowd of 44,000 is expected. This will cause traffic disruption in Limerick City and approach roads to the city. Garda advice to patrons is to arrive in plenty of time, park cars legally, and consider parking in nearby city centre car parks and walking to the stadium.

Road Closures/Diversions (from 1pm onwards)

-Ennis Rd. at its junction with Ivan’s Cross – traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken Road
-Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction – Road Closure
-Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue – Road Closure
-Union Cross – traffic will be diverted to Shelbourne Rd
-Shelbourne Pk./Shelbourne Road – Road Closure
-Shelbourne Rd./Mayorstone Drive – Road Closure
-Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Avenue – Road Closure

-Ennis Road from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross (Ivans) will be closed from 1pm
-Parking will be available at different locations on the Ennis Road between Coonagh roundabout and Caherdavin Cross
-Parking will also be available at TUS Campus, Old Cratloe Road
-No specific bus or coach parking around TUS Gaelic Grounds. Coaches should use Cratloe Road and Condell Road for drop off and collection, or park in city centre coach parking areas.

After Game Traffic Management

-Priority will be given to patrons exiting TUS Gaelic Grounds after the game
-Ennis Road will be closed from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross
-Two lanes of traffic will operate outbound on Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout
-All outbound traffic on Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout will be directed out the R445 to the N18 and to take Exit 5 -Portdrine/Cratloe, take flyover and Limerick Southern Ring Road back to Tunnel Toll Plaza and on to the Limerick Tunnel
-Condell Road will be closed to inbound traffic at Coonagh roundabout
-Traffic on Clonmacken Road will be directed towards Clonmacken Road roundabout and Condell Road and will use Toll Plaza or Condell Road to Shannon Bridge
-Inbound traffic on Ennis Road will use Sarsfield Bridge to Limerick City centre
-Inbound traffic on Cratloe Road will use Sexton Street North to Thomond Bridge to Island Road to Dublin Road and Limerick City centre

Flares/Smoke Bombs/Intoxication

Stadium Regulations prohibit the possession of smoke bombs and flares. Patrons may be denied entry if found in possession of same. Lighting of smoke bombs or flares is an offence and any person found lighting same in the stadium will be ejected and may face criminal prosecution. Intoxicated patrons will be denied entry to the grounds.

Crime Prevention Advice

An Garda Síochána advises patrons to:

-Not leave valuables in your vehicle, and if you must, keep them out of view before reaching your destination.
-Parents should exercise caution and be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times due to large crowds.
