Clare ended their season with a Shannonside derby victory over Limerick. Despite the loss, Limerick advance to the Munster final, where they will host Cork on Saturday June 7.

A brace of second half goals from Ryan Taylor added nicely to the opening half goal from Mark Rodgers, to give Clare enough for a second win of 2025 – the other a League success also away to Limerick.

It also ensures that Clare don’t finish bottom of the round-robin, leapfrogging Waterford, in what is their first time failing to progress as one of the three sides in the competition.

This was Clare’s final game as All Ireland holders, with pride and local rivalry their main motivation having already exited the Championship. The Banner gave Shane O’Donnell a start, while they too shuffled the deck including Rory Hayes and ‘keeper Eamon Foudy.

After last weeks heroics against Cork, John Kiely took the chance to make a plethora of changes. He gave first starts of the campaign to Declan Hannon, Darragh O’Donovan and Séamus Flanagan – while Shane Dowling made a return to Championship hurling in goals. The Na Piarsaigh man making a first appearance in the Championship since the 2019 All-Ireland semi-final.

Kiely may have been frustrated by some aspects of this performance, as they struggled to sew together the passes that make them so devastating at times.

This game certainly didn’t reach the heights we expect at this level, but there was certainly moments of class. Aided by a strong wind, Clare eventually found their form and would lead 1-13 to 0-10 at the break.

Among the scorers were Tony Kelly, Cathal Malone and Mark Rodgers. The pacy Scariff attacker Rodgers, linked well with Peter Duggan for the games opening goal, collecting and drilling low beyond Dowling.

Before that, Limerick had some good moments. Diarmaid Byrnes, Flanagan and Gearoid Hegarty were all on target, and by the time the half ended these famous rivals had been level four times, until that Rodgers goal.

From the 26th minute green flag to the half-time whistle Clare dominated and a second Peter Duggan sideline cut gave their loyal supporters who travelled something to smile about.

Aided by the breeze in the second half, the home side were dealt a blow when Ryan Taylor cut in after receiving a Mark Rodgers pass before dispatching to the net.

It opened a ten point lead. Limerick did bring this back with six points on the trot, including fine efforts from subs Adam English and Cathal O’Neill, but they were pushed back by a 66th minute goal from Ryan Taylor, who finished high to the net to seal the points for the Banner.

Press Release – Garda Traffic Management Plan

The following is the Garda Traffic Management Plan to cater for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship game, Limerick versus Clare at 4pm on Sunday 25th. May 2025 at the T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds, Ennis Road, Limerick City.

A large crowd is expected to attend the game, which will cause traffic disruption in Limerick City and approach roads to the city. To maximise everyone’s enjoyment of the day Garda advice to patrons is to arrive in plenty of time, to park cars legally, i.e. not causing obstruction, not parking on green areas or at locations where parking is prohibited. Cars illegally parked will be ticketed and those causing obstruction are likely to be towed away by Gardai.

Patrons are advised to strongly consider parking in the nearby city centre car parks and walk out to the stadium as this will save them considerable time in their journeys home after the game.
If you are driving to the match the Gardaí would appeal to patrons to keep to the speed limits, never “Drink & Drive”, “Text & Drive” or “Phone & Drive

Closures/Diversions
Road Closures/diversions will apply from 1pm onwards at the following locations:
• Ennis Rd. At its junction with Ivan’s Cross – traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken Road
• Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction – Road Closure
• Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue – Road Closure
• Union Cross – traffic will be diverted to Shelbourne Rd
• Shelbourne Pk./Shelbourne Road – Road Closure

Parking
• Motorists are advised to park in the city centre and walk to T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds (30 minutes)
• Parking available at city centre carparks and on street parking
• Disability parking passes for T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds only available through Limerick or Cork G.A.A. County Boards.
• Ennis Road from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross (Ivans) will be closed from 1pm
• Parking will be available at different locations on the Ennis Road between Coonagh roundabout and Caherdavin Cross.
• Parking will also be available at T.U.S. Campus, Old Cratloe Road
• There is no specific bus or coach parking around T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds. Coaches must not be parked in a manner which may lead to disruption. Cratloe Road and Condell Road should be used for drop off and collection. Alternatively, coaches should park in coach parking areas in the city centre and patrons walk to the grounds.

After Game Traffic Management
• Priority will be given to patrons exiting T.U.S. Gaelic Grounds on foot after the game
• Ennis Road will be closed from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross
• Two lanes of traffic will operate outbound on the Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout
• All outbound traffic on Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout will be directed out the R445 to the N18.
• Condell Road will be closed to inbound traffic at Coonagh roundabout.
• Traffic on Clonmacken Road will be directed towards Clonmacken Road roundabout and Condell Road and will use Toll Plaza or Condell Road to Shannon Bridge
• Inbound traffic on Ennis Road will use Sarsfield Bridge to Limerick City centre
• Inbound traffic on Cratloe Road will use Sexton Street North to Thomond Bridge to Island Road to Dublin Road and Limerick City centre.

FLARES/SMOKE BOMBS/INTOXICATION
• Patrons attending the match are reminded that Stadium Regulations prohibit the possession of smoke bombs and flares in the grounds. Patrons may be denied entry if found in possession of same.
• The lighting of smoke bombs or flares is an offence and any person found lighting same in the stadium will be ejected from the grounds and may face criminal prosecution.
• Intoxicated patrons will be denied entry to the grounds

Crime Prevention Advice
An Garda Síochána would like all patrons travelling to the game to have a safe trip so the here are a few tips for those travelling to the match
• Don’t leave any valuables in your vehicle and if you must, keep them out of view. This should be done before you get to your destination.
• There will be large crowds at the match so parents should exercise caution and be aware of their child’s whereabouts at all times.
