Clonmel Óg (Tipperary) defeated Killimer (Clare) by 4-8 to 1-7 in the AIB Munster Club Junior Football Championship Quarter-Final on Saturday November 8th at Kilmihil.

Clonmel Og 4-8 Killimer 1-7

Three second half goals helped Clonmel Og to a deserved victory over Killimer, county Clare in the Munster Club Junior Football Championship quarter-final in Kilmihil.

Darragh McVicker opened the scoring for Clonmel Og in the seventh minute, and it took until the 17th minute for the next score when Cian O’Sullivan doubled the Og’s lead.

The first goal of the game arrived in the 22nd minute when a McVicker free dropped short and the Killimer defender spilled the catch; Aaron Arrigan reacted the quickest and fisted the ball into the net.

Mikey Kelleher opened the Killimer account in the 23rd minute, but points from Og half backs Luke Hannigan and Shane O’Connor (from a ‘45) saw the Og lead 1-4 to 0-1 at the break.

Having limited Killimer to just four shots at goal in the first half, Clonmel Og were good value for their lead.

Luke Calligan goaled for Killimer in the 32nd minute and this was followed by three unanswered points from Mikey Kelleher to level the scores within seven minutes of the restart.

Killimer had their tails up at this point but a strong run by Jamal Yousif earned a free that was converted by Darragh McVicker to steady the ship for the Og.

The turning point of the match came in the 43rd minute when McVicker finished a brilliant team move to the net to nudge Og four points ahead.

Mikey Kelleher scored his fourth point for Killimer in the 46th minute, but the Og responded immediately when substitute Jack Dillon ran at the Killimer goal. His shot was saved on the line and McVicker followed up for the tap-in goal. There was only going to be one winner from this point.

McVicker converted more two frees and in the 55th minute, before Luke Hannigan raised the fourth green flag for the Og.

Killimer goalie Cian Corry converted a 45 in the 57th minute while Aaron Arrigan concluded the scoring with a point in the 60th minute.

Man of the match Darragh McVicker rightly took the plaudits after scoring 2-4, but this was a very solid all-round Clonmel Og performance, and was comfortably their best performance of the season.

Clonmel Og now look forward to their first-ever Munster semi-final against Kerry team Ballymacelligott at a Tipperary venue on November 22.
