Scoláireachtaí Gaeltachta

Tugann tréimhse sa Ghaeltacht deis do dhaoine óga bheith tumtha go hiomlán sa teanga. Cleachtadh a dhéanann máistreacht ar ndóigh ach ina theannta sin, cuireann sé le muinín an duine óig maidir le Gaeilge labhartha. Spreagann tréimhse sa Ghaeltacht an fheasacht teanga i measc na ndéagóirí a théann go dtí an Ghaeltacht ó cheann ceann na tíre gach bliain. Is tuar dóchais agus crann taca é sin don teanga sa todhchaí.

Ta dhá scéim Gaeltachta ag CLG na Mumhan faoi lathair:

Scéim 1

Bronntar páirt – scoláireachtaí / deontais ar dheagóirí idir bhuachaillí agus chailíní, chun freastal ar chursaí Gaeilge coicíse nó trí seachtaine sa Ghaeltacht ina gcuirtear béim ar scileanna peile is iománaíochta.

Eagraítear an scéim seo i gcomhpháirtíocht leis na Boird Chontaetha, Comhairle na Mumhan agus na Coláistí Gaeilge. Tugann an Chomhairle scoláireachtaí amach do dhéagóirí atá mar bhaill den chumann CLG, LGFA nó chumann camógaíochta áitiúil chun freastal ar na cúrsaí seo.

Bíonn na cúrsaí seo á reachtáil ag Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne i gCiarraí, Coláiste na Rinne i bPort Láirge, Coláiste na Mumhan i mBéal Átha an Ghaorthaidh i gCorcaigh & i roinnt Coláistí eile do mhuintir an Chláir.

Tá na foirmeacha ar fáil do na páirt – scoláireachtaí trí na Boird Contaetha, agus tuilleadh eolais ar fáil ó na hoifigigh cultúrtha i ngach contae.

Scéim 2

Bhí áthas ar CLG na Mumhan comórtas nua scoláireachta a fhógairt i 2024 do scoláirí iar-bhunscoile idir 12-17 mbliana d’aois gur mhian leo freastal ar chúrsa Gaeltachta sa samhradh  (tréimhse 2 sheachtain ar a laghad).

Bronnadh scoláireacht iomlán amháin in aghaidh an chontae sa chúige. Chlúdaigh na scoláireachtaí costas iomlán an chúrsa Gaeltachta. Comórtas oscailte atá i gceist leis an Scoláireacht seo.

Seo a leanas na riachtanais iontrála do 2025:

Ní mór d’iarratasóirí idir 12 agus 18 mbliana d’aois fístaifeadadh a chur isteach i nGaeilge d’fhad NÓIMÉAD AMHÁIN ar ábhar a bhaineann le cúrsaí CLG (Mionsonraí faoin topaic ar fáil nuair a osclaíonn an comórtas do 2025)

Ba chóir go n-áireofaí san fhíseán freisin cur síos gairid ar fhéin ón scoláire, le hachoimre ar an spéis atá acu sa Ghaeilge agus sa chultúr.

Tabhair faoi deara:

Is féidir le scoláirí a bhfuil iarratas déanta acu cheana féin ar pháirt-scoláireacht ina gcontaetha cur isteach ar an scoláireacht iomlán seo chomh maith.

Tá an scéim seo, atá maoinithe agus eagraithe ag Comhairle na Mumhan i gcomhar leis na boird contae, mar chuid de thiomantas leanúnach CLG do chur chun cinn agus do thacaíocht na Gaeilge.  Tá Coiste Cultúrtha Chomhairle na Mumhan i bhfeighil na scéime.  Tuilleadh eolas ó aedin.ni.bhriain.munster@gaa.ie

Gaeltacht Scholarships

A stay in the Gaeltacht gives young people the opportunity to become fully immersed in the Irish language. Cleachtadh a dhéanann máistreacht/ Practice makes perfect of course but the experience also enhances the young person’s confidence in spoken Irish. A stay in the Gaeltacht encourages language awareness among teenagers who travel to the Gaeltacht from all over the country every year. This is a source of hope and inspiration for the language for the future.

Munster GAA currently have two Gaeltacht schemes in place:

Scheme 1

Partial – scholarships/grants are awarded to boys and girls alike, to attend two- or three-week Irish language courses in the Gaeltacht which focus on football and hurling skills.

This scheme is administered in partnership with the County Boards, Munster Council and the Irish Colleges themselves. The Council offers scholarships to teenagers who are members of their local GAA, LGFA or camogie clubs to attend these courses.

The courses are run by Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne in Kerry, Coláiste na Rinne in Waterford, Coláiste na Mumhan in Ballingeary in Cork & in a number of other Colleges for the young people of Clare.

The forms are available for this scheme through respective County Boards, and more information is available from the cultural officers in each county.

Scheme 2

In 2024, Munster GAA were delighted to announce a new scholarship competition for post-primary students aged 12-17 who wished to attend a Gaeltacht course in the summer (minimum 2 week period).

One full scholarship was awarded per county in the province. The scholarships covered the total cost of the Gaeltacht course. This Scholarship is an open competition.

The entry requirements for 2025 are as follows:

Applicants between 12 and 18 years old must submit a video recording in Irish of ONE Minute’s duration on a GAA-related subject (Details on the exact topic will be given when the competition opens for 2025)

The video should also include a brief description of the students themselves, with a summary of their interest in the Irish language and culture.

Please note:

Students who have already applied for part-scholarships in their counties may also apply for this full scholarship.

This scheme, funded and organised by Comhairle na Mumhan in conjunction with the county boards, forms part of the GAA’s ongoing commitment to the promotion and support of the Irish language.  The Cultural Committee of Comhairle na Mumhan oversees the scheme.  Further information from Munster GAA’s Irish Language Development Officer, aedin.ni.bhriain.munster@gaa.ie
