AIB Munster Club JFC: Glin (Limerick) 1-8 Kill (Waterford) 0-8
Glin became the fifth Limerick side to reach the Munster junior club football final when edging out Waterford champions Kill in Newcastle West yesterday. A game that was tight throughout was decided five minutes from the end when Pádraig Costello’s goal put the winners six points to the good and far enough in front to survive their opponents’ all-out pressure to rescue their season.
Anthony Kiely and Ben Gallagher got Kill off the mark coming up to the quarter hour mark but they failed to maintain that momentum and, after Jack Fitzgerald’s reply was matched by Gallagher, two Darren Sheehan frees had Glin level (0-3 apiece) at the break.
Mark Culhane and Ray Hennessy swapped frees on the restart before Culhane, from a free and from play, and Sheehan put Glin three up. After Hennessy and Culhane again swapped frees, Costello sealed the result when pouncing on Fitzgerald’s blocked shot to toe-poke to the net. Kill’s final rally failed to find a goal and they had to settle for three Hennessy points.
