AIB Munster GAA Football Junior Club Championship Semi-Final – Cappamore (Limerick) 1-6 Clarecastle (Clare) 0-4
Assured Cappamore see off Clarecastle
By John Redington for the Irish Examiner newspaper
Cappamore (Limerick) 1-06 Clarecastle (Clare) 0-04
Although they had to rely on two spectacular saves, from Brian Leahy, and the upright, Limerick junior football champions Cappamore were full value for their Munster Club JFC semi-final victory over Clarecastle at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday. An impeccable defence, marshalled by manager and former county star Diarmuid Sheehy, laid the foundations for a patient performance that wore down their opponents’ dominance before sub Niall Leahy’s goal just after the break gave them a lead they were never likely to surrender.
Clarecastle were on top early when Jason Considine and Adam Healy (two) gave them the lead after points from Cappamore’s Andy Moloney and Conor Sheehan. It should have been more but for missed chances and Leahy’s blocks off Éamonn Callinan and Alan Considine. However the winners turned the game when Leahy pounced on a defensive fumble to toe-poke his goal and Murphy followed up with an immediate point. Scores from Sheehan, John Ryan and Tommie O’Donoghue widened the gap before Callinan replied in injury time for the Banner club’s only second-half score.
