Kerry footballer, Seán O’Shea, was announced as the GAA’s Irish language Ambassador for 2024 at an event in Croke Park.

He is looking forward to his role as Irish language Ambassador. As part of his role, Seán will be supporting and helping promote GAA Irish language schemes, initiatives and events such as Cuaille (the GAA’s online Irish language magazine), Lá Mór na Gaeilge, Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha and the GAAgaeilge Go Games that will be taking place in Croke Park later this year.

At the launch of the 2024 GAA Ambasadóir na Gaeilge in Croke Park today Cathaoirleach Choiste Náisiúnta Gaeilge, Gráinne McElwain, welcomed Seán to the role and wished him well for the year ahead. Seán said it was a great honour for him to be appointed Ambasadóir Gaeilge CLG and said that he looked forward to the role and hoped he could encourage as many people as possible to use their Gaeilge throughout the year. Since making his Kerry debut back in 2018 Seán has gone onto win a total of 5 Munster titles, 2 National League titles and an All-Ireland title in 2022.

The Kenmare native captained Kerry to that All-Ireland title in 2022 and his last-minute match winning free kick in the semi-final against Dublin will live long in the memory as will his All-Ireland winning speech for the amount of Irish he spoke in it. Seán has also won two All-Stars to date. The GAA are looking forward to working with Seán in the year ahead. Seán succeeds Galway footballer, Paul Conroy (2022) and Clare hurler, Paul Flanagan (2023), as Ambasadóir Gaeilge CLG.

Peileadóir Chiarraí, Seán Ó Sé, ceaptha mar Ambasadóir Gaeilge CLG do 2024

Fógraíodh gurb é peileadóir Chiarraí, Seán Ó Sé, a bheidh mar Ambasadóir na Gaeilge ag Cumann Lúthchleas Gael do 2024, ag ócáid i bPáirc an Chrócaigh inniu. Tá an Ghaeilge an-tábhachtach do Sheán agus tá sé ag súil go mór leis an ról mar Ambasadóir Gaeilge de chuid an Chumainn. Mar chuid den ról beidh Seán ag tacú le scéimeanna agus le hócáidí Gaeilge de chuid an Chumainn ar nós Cuaille (iris Ghaeilge ar líne an Chumainn), Lá Mór na Gaeilge, Fondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonncha agus na GAAgaeilge Go Games a bheidh ar siúl i bPáirc an Chrócaigh níos déanaí sa bhliain.

Ag an seoladh i bPáirc an Chrócaigh inniu chuir Gráinne McElwain, Cathaoirleach Choiste Náisiúnta Gaeilge CLG, fáilte roimh Sheán chuig an ról agus ghuigh sí gach rath air don bhliain amach romhainn. Dúirt Seán gur mhór an onóir a bhí ann dó a bheith mar Ambasadóir na Gaeilge agus go raibh sé ag súil go mór leis an mbliain amach roimhe. Tá sé ag súil, freisin, le daoine a spreagadh lena gcuid Gaeilge a labhairt le linn na bliana. Ó d’imir Seán le Ciarraí don chéad uair thiar sa bhliain 2018, tá cúig cinn de Chraobhacha Mumhan, dhá cheann de Shraitheanna Náisiúnta agus Craobh amháin Uile-Éireann buaite aige. Bhí sé ina chaptaen ar Chiarraí nuair a bhuaigh siad an Chraobh Uile-Éireann sin i 2022 agus beidh cuimhne go deo ar an gcic saor buacach a d’aimsigh sé in aghaidh Átha Cliath i gcluiche leathcheannais na bliana sin chomh maith lena óráid bhuacach tar éis dó Corn Shomhailre Mhig Uidhir a ardú – de bharr an méid Gaeilge a labhair sé agus é ag caint.

Tá dhá Ghradam All-Star buaite ag Seán go dtí seo. Tá Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ag súil go mór le bheith ag obair le Seán don bhliain amach romhainn. Tagann fear Neidín sna sála ar pheileadóir na Gaillimhe, Paul Conroy, a bhí mar Ambasadóir Gaeilge ar CLG i 2022 agus ar iománaí an Chláir, Paul Flanagan, a bhí mar Ambasadóir na Gaeilge i 2023.
