Munster Senior Football Q-Final – Clare 2-8 Waterford 2-8
Clare and Waterford finished level at 2-8 to 2-8 in the Munster GAA Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final on Saturday June 7th at Cusack Park Ennis. The sides will meet again in a replay fixed for Saturday June 14th at Fraher Field Dungarvan.

Waterford full-forward Paul Whyte sent over an equalising point in the second minute of injury time to force a replay after an incident-filled finale before 1,768 spectators at Cusack Park. Clare appeared poised for the last four when David Tubridy smashed home a goal on 65 minutes. It released a Banner roar from the stands as the hosts had spent 23 minutes without a score in the second period. Before Tubridy’s goal, the visitors battled back from five points down to sneak in front when Tadhg Ó hUallacháin punched over. Gary Brennan tacked on a point however as Clare moved 2-8 to 2-5 ahead with only a minute of normal time remaining.
Niall Carew’s charges refused to panic and summoned another recovery effort. Shane Ahearne hit two (one from play and one free) before Paul Whyte calmly kicked the leveller. The second installment will take place next Saturday at Fraher Field. Colm Collins’ home side held a 1-5 to 1-2 lead by halfway. Clare started briskly with a Tubridy free. Enda Coughlan pounced for a goal on six minutes after Stephen Enright saved in spectacular fashion from Shane McGrath in the first instance.
Waterford eased into the contest with a back to back brace of JJ Hutchinson points. Shane McGrath restored Clare’s three-point advantage on the quarter hour mark (1-2 to 0-2). Defences dominated the rest of the half as both sides struggled to break through. In the Déise rearguard, the O’Gorman twins tied up Martin O’Leary and Tubridy. At the opposite end, full-back Kevin Hartnett shone for Clare.
Martin O’Leary bridged a 13 minute wait for a score and Shane McGrath followed up with his second. Waterford were struggling to fire up front. Liam Ó Lonáin had a penalty appeal refused which added to their irritation. They finally made a breakthrough on 33 minutes when Michael O’Gorman passed to Dean Crowley running from deep. He transferred to Paul Whyte who slid a low shot beyond Joe Hayes. Tubridy closed the first half scoring to leave Clare three points up.
They stretched out to five through Jamie Malone and a piercing dart from Gary Brennan (1-7 to 1-2). They eased off the pedal however and Waterford got their act together in attack. Whyte curled over and then substitute Michael Curry trimmed the deficit to three. On 58 minutes, Shane Ahearne barrelled through and passed across for Ó Lionáin to palm home with the aid of the crossbar (1-7 to 2-4).
Clare took hurried options as their wides tally reached double digits. Ó hUallacháin nudged the away side ahead for the very first time with a fisted effort on 64 minutes to complete a six-point turnaround. In an action-packed conclusion, they needed to dig deep again to bring Clare back to Dungarvan for the replay.

Both Tipperary and Clare were promoted from the Allianz Football League Division 4 this year with Tipperary defeating Clare in the final to secure the Division 4 title.
