Munster Minor Football Quarter-Final – Clare 2-20 Waterford 0-6
Banner boys have easy passage to semi-finals
Clare 2-20 Waterford 0-06
By Gerry Quinn for the Irish Examiner newspaper
Clare eased into the Munster MFC semi-final after a facile victory over Waterford at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday evening last. In a very one-sided affair, the host county raced into a 1-7 to no score lead by the 10th minute. They retired 1-10 to 0-2 in front at the break, forging ahead in the second half against a Waterford side that could only manage one score from play, a Donal Scanlon effort on the hour.
The hosts were well served by the Cleary twins, Eoin and Conor in the full-forward line, with Eoin netting the first goal in the eighth minute. The pair were ably assisted up front by Barry Lynch, son of All-Star hurler Colin, who had three points. The winner’s second green flag came with three minutes left on the clock, when sub Conor Deasy goaled following a hand-pass by Niall Pender.

Report from the Hogan Stand web site
Clare’s minor footballers gave their senior counterparts a boost ahead of today’s crucial Allianz Football League promotion battle with Wicklow when they trounced Waterford in last night’s Munster MFC opener at Cusack Park.
Clare 2-20 Waterford 0-6
The Banner won the corresponding fixture by 14 points last year and this time the margin was even greater as Michael Neylon’s men qualified for a semi-final meeting with the winners of the losers’ group without ever breaking sweat. The game was already over as a contest at half-time with the home side leading 1-10 to 0-2, and with the talented Cleary brothers from Milltown-Malbay scoring 1-12 between them, they doubled their tally in the second half.
Scorers – Clare: E Cleary 1-6, C Cleary 0-6, C.Deasy 1-0, B Lynch, J Malone 0-3 each, N Deasy 0-2. Waterford: R Donnelly 0-5, D Scanlon 0-1.
