They last met in the championship two years ago when Kerry won a Leinster ‘round robin’ game by 2-19 to 0-17 in Tralee. Carlow didn’t compete in last year’s Liam MacCarthy Cup Tier, instead playing in the Christy Ring Cup which they won.
Carlow won five of six games in Division 2A in the Allianz Hurling League this year and were crowned champions after beating Westmeath in the final. Kerry won three of five games in 2A, finishing third behind Westmeath and Carlow.
Carlow beat Kerry by 1-18 to 1-11 in Tralee in the second round of the 2A campaign in early February.
