Post-Primary and Events Officer

Comhairle na Mumhan C.L.G (the Council) is now seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for the above position. The successful candidate will be employed by Comhairle na Mumhan C.L.G. and will be based in the Council’s Headquarters (HQ) in Castletroy, County Limerick.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the provision of administrative, clerical and games planning/management services to the Provincial Post-Primary Schools’ Council. This will include making arrangements for Post-Primary Schools fixtures and overseeing the completion of fixture programmes. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the provision of administrative and logistical support to the Council’s Operations Manager in relation to the organisation of Council games and events as well as other administrative and clerical duties as assigned from time to time.

While the basic hours will be normal office hours, the successful candidate will be required to work in the evening and at weekends on a regular basis and so will need to be flexible in order to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. The successful candidate shall report directly to the Council’s Operations Manager, with a secondary reporting relationship with the Council’s CEO/Secretary.


Responsibilities shall include:

Post-Primary Duties:

  • Draft master fixture plan annually;
  • Liaise with County Post-Primary Schools’ Development (Servicing) Officer to co-ordinate provincial fixtures on a weekly basis;
  • Make appropriate arrangements if fixture schedule changes;
  • Allocate gate collectors to matches with admission fees;
  • Constant monitoring and updating of financial activities;
  • Acting PRO – Supply information to local media outlets & Daily update website/Servasport system;
  • Process Disciplinary Actions, Hearings, Appeals & Objections;
  • Drive initiatives e.g. implement strategic plan;
  • Post-Primary Sector Analysis and Policy formulation in conjunction with the appointed Post-Primary Schools’ Council;
  • Management of county servicing officer, review county fixture programmes to ensure meaningful games are been provided;
  • Event management of Finals;
  • Represent Post Primary Schools’ Council on Coaching & Games Development Committee;
  • Secretarial duties on behalf of CEO/Secretary.

    Events Duties:

  • Review fixture schedule and coordinate staff for all Munster Competitions (Club Championship, Co-op Superstores Senior Hurling League, McGrath Cup, Minor, U20/U21 and Senior Championships matches);
  • Work in close partnership with Operations Manager to successfully manage each match;
  • Site inspections to confirm venue suitability and identify resources required;
  • Prepare stewarding plans and staff positioning for each game;
  • Briefing, deployment and managing of event staff on match day;
  • Event management at matches;
  • Provide event management services, consultancy and resources to the host venues for national fixtures;
  • Monitor and review staff performance on a continuous basis;
  • Supervising & Assembling resources for games (Floats, Paperwork, managers briefings etc);
  • Reconciling and lodgement of cash after each game;
  • Carry out tasks as requested by the CEO/Secretary and the Operations Manager.

    The role holder will also be required to undertake any other responsibilities or duties as may reasonably assigned by the Operations Manager or CEO/Secretary.

    Essential Criteria:

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) skills;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAA structures and procedures; Extensive interest and involvement in Gaelic Games;
  • Knowledge of event planning and management practices and procedures as well as associated health and safety considerations and protocols.
  • Strong administration experience and IT skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities;
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative and perform effectively as part of a team;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrable ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Ability to be flexible in approach to work.

    Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience of planning, organising and managing events;
  • Relevant third level qualification.
