AIB Munster GAA Football Intermediate Club Championship Quarter-Final – Pallasgreen (Limerick) 2-8 Ballinameela (Waterford) 2-7

November 4, 2012 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Late Wallace point wins it for Pallasgreen

By John Murphy for the Irish Examiner newspaper

Pallasgreen (Limerick) 2-8 Ballinameela (Waterford) 2-7

A dramatic late point from corner-forward Alan Wallace secured victory for Pallasgreen in this Munster Club IFC quarter-final at Cappoquin yesterday. Pallasgreen got off to a devastating start, with Kevin Barry and Alan Wallace both netting inside three minutes against a stunned Ballinameela. However, a 24th minute goal from midfielder Brian Phelan and a Conor Buckley score cut the gap to three points (2-3 to 1-3) at the interval

Pallasgreen drew first blood on the turnover when Chris McMahon pointed a free, but the sides were all square in the 34th minute when Phelan fired home from close range. With Phelan and Aidan Ahearne continuing to dominate midfield, the odds were now on a Ballinameela victory. But Pallasgreen never panicked as their defence stood firm. Twice in the closing stages the rivals traded points, but, with extra-time looming, Wallace slotted Pallasgreen’s winning point.
