Munster Club Camogie Senior Final – Drom & Inch v Douglas

November 19, 2011 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Munster Senior Camogie Club Final

Drom-Inch 5-08 v 2-13 Douglas

Drom-Inch lived up to the favourites tag in this tie as the led all the way through. Their ability in the goal area proving decisive, both in attack and defense. A brace of goals from Mary Looby added to goals from Geraldine Kinnane, Niamh Harkin and Catriona Shortt were too much for the young Douglas side, especially since Rosie Keaneally in the Drom goal was in top form today with the player of the match performance. Drom’s goals came in the fifth minute from Geraldine Kinnane, who also added five points from play, mid-way through the half from captain Mary Looby and in a sucker punch to Douglas just before the break from Niamh Harkin. Douglas were fighting all the way though and had their scores from Claire Shine, Katrina Mackey had four in the first half, three from play, with Julia White also pointing. Drom led at the break 3-03 to Douglas 7 points.

Douglas gave themselves a huge boost when Aine O’Donovan goaled immediately after the restart and the game ebbed and flowed keeping the good attendance in Bansha entertained. Claire Shine added a brace of points for Douglas. Drom were not finished in front of goal though and Mary Looby’s second goal with 13 minutes remaining along with Rosie Kenneallys point blank save from Katrina Mackey kept the Douglas challenge at bay. Amanda O’Regan and a brace of frees from Katrina Mackey were working hard to pull back the Drom lead but they never got there as Catriona Shortt goaled for the winners five minutes from time with Douglas last goal coming from Rachel O’Sullivan as full time drew near.

For Drom Rosie Kenneally, Geraldine Kinnane and Joanne Ryan were best while for Douglas Julia White, Pamela and Katrina Mackey with sixteen year old Emma Kavanagh were best. Drom-Inch now go on to contest the All-Ireland semi-final after the Christmas break.

Munster Senior Camogie Club Final Preview

Douglas(Corcaigh) v Drom-Inch(Tiobraid Árainn) @ Bansha 2pm, Ref F. McNamara (Clár)

Douglas and Drom-Inch pair off in the Munster Senior Camogie Club Final. Drom-Inch will enter the game as favourites having beaten a strong Cashel team in the Tipperary final last Saturday. This they had to do the hard way, as last weekends game was the replay but the third time that these two met in the final as the original final fixture was abandoned at half time due to weather conditions on October 23rd. The re-fixture ended in a draw as the sides needed the replay to separate them and in the end Drom won out with just two points to spare. Drom will look to Geraldine Kinnane, Niamh Harkin, Mairead Barry, Siobhan McGrath and Catriona Short for their scoring powers, while Therse Short will help to command the back line.

Douglas though have this year regained the Cork senior title for just their second time and also added the league to their cabinet this time round. This is the second time that they will have met Drom in the Munster Final, as the pairing met in 2008 when Douglas last won the Cork title. Douglas have matured from that occasion and will this time be looking to overturn the result on that occasion when Drom were the winners. Douglas have overcome last years Munster Champions Iniscarra in the Cork semi-final and Milford in the Final. They then played Ballygran of Limerick in the Munster Semi-final where they held out the Limerick challenge in a tough game. Manager Mick O’Regan will be hoping that these tests will stand to his girls in the final. Douglas will look to Amanda O Regan, Katrina Mackey, Julia White, Maria Harkin, Rachel O’ Sullivan, Emma Kavanagh, Sinead Duggan, Aine O’Donovan, Julia Tracy and Jess Kavanagh in goal.

This is set to be a close game with little to separate the teams in the end.
