St Mary’s Macroom 4-14 Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig 3-4

St Mary’s Macroom captured the Munster Post Primary Senior B title against Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig with an excellent team performance on Saturday in Mallow GAA. Four points from player of the match Claire Byrne and three from Aoife Plunkett were crucial in Macroom’s dominance in the opening half. Midfielder Mairead Corkery chipped in with a goal and a point. Eimear Scally had opening the scoring with a point for Ballincollig and a goal on 10 minutes with Nicole Smith as well as a point from Laura Hayes was all that stemmed the wave of attacks from the Macroom side in the opening half despite excellent defending by Caitlin Looney and Deirbhla Nic A Bhaird , leaving the half time score at 1-9 to 1-2.

Colaiste Choilm’s Eimear Scally stormed into the second half with a goal and a point. Aoife Nic A Bhaird scored the goal of the season with a fantastic solo run from halfway to leave only 2 points between the teams. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for Colaiste Choilm and Macroom reasserted their dominance with points from Plunkett, Byrne and Clare Murphy. Katie O Connell chipped in with two . Superb inter passing created 2 goals which were finished to the net by Mairead Corkery and Aoife Plunkett. Marie Ambrose was outstanding in the back and marking Colaiste Choilm star Eimear Scally while Angela Crowley and Aileen Corkery also impressed at the back for Macroom while Elaine Scally and Laura Cleary worked hard for Colaiste Choilm. Jean O Sullivan collected the cup for St. Marys who now go on to play the Ulster champions on the 2nd March.
