Munster MHC Final Replay: Limerick retain title
Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship Final Replay: Limerick 0-24 Waterford 0-18
Report from GAA.ie
Limerick retained their Electric Ireland Munster minor hurling championship crown in Thurles this evening, with a six-point victory over Waterford. Limerick came good in the final quarter to claim back-to-back provincial titles in this grade for the first time ever. Waterford must now regroup for an All-Ireland quarter-final against Dublin at Semple Stadium next Sunday, following defeat at the Thurles venue at the hands of Limerick.
For the second year in a row, Waterford lost to Limerick in a Munster minor hurling final replay, this time in front of 6,165 spectators. But they could have few complaints as Limerick embarked on a spectacular scoring spree in the final quarter of the game. Trailing by 0-15 to 0-17, Limerick embarked on a run that would see them out-point Waterford by 0-9 to 0-1 down the home straight.
Central to this victory was a haul of ten points from vice-captain Ronan Lynch – and five points from play scored by Tom Morrissey. Ahane player Morrissey was superb in the second half when Limerick came on strong. He pointed to level the game for the tenth time at 0-17 apiece and added two more as Limerick kicked for home. Barry Nash and Peter Casey also enjoyed good games for Limerick and while Patrick Curran hit eight points for Waterford, he was scoreless in the second half.
Waterford led by 0-13 to 0-11 at the end of a first half that was level nine times. And they had the best goalscoring chance of that opening half as Darragh Lyons forced a good save from Eoghan McNamara. Save of the game went to Waterford netminder Billy Nolan, however, as the Roanmore player denied Seamus Flanagan with a spectacular save. Nolan was helpless though as Limerick popped over points with regularity to seal a seventh Munster minor hurling crown.
