Munster Camogie Club Forum
Munster Chairman Eamonn Browne was delighted to have as special guest Joan O’Flynn, President of the Camogie Association in Mallow where Munster Camogie is held a hugely successful Club Forum over the weekend. David Fitzgerald, current Waterford Senior Hurling Manager and winner of 2 Senior All Ireland Medals and 3 All Star Awards with Clare who also Coached Clare Minor Camogie Team to win the Munster Championship & contest the All Ireland Final in 2008, was on hand on the night to deliver practical skills session focused on increasing the skill level of young players. This was enthuastically received by the players and coaches and seen as a great opportunity. While it also brought the experience of Joe O’Connor who dealt with physical fitness for camogie players of different ages and what is required at the different stages, Joe is current physical trainer to the Waterford Senior hurlers and Kerry Senior Footballers. Mary O’Connor National Director of Camogie and winner of 7 Senior All Ireland medals & 3 All stars with Cork dealt with some burning issues in camogie, such as holding onto the teenage player, while Paudie Butler National Director of Hurling looked at the GAA and Camogie working together to benefit all. This was further strengthened by the presence of Munster GAA vice Chairman Robert Frost who addressed the forum on how we need to work together. Munster Camogie Chairman, Eamonn Browne, was delighted with the attendance and with the level of support for the venture, He was delighted with what the event has produced and looks forward to the ‘further development of the game of Camogie within the province’. The Chairman was enthused for his work as ‘150 people attended the Forum with clubs from all over Munster in attendance and obviously working hard on the game, this can only be good so we look forward to the years ahead’.
