Crescent Comprehensive Limerick 1-14 Colaiste An Craoibhin Fermoy 0-5

Crescent Comprehensive were deserving winners over Colaiste An Craoibhin (Fermoy) in the Munster Under 16.5 DHC final at Lattin on Friday. From the start the winners dominated. They were very solid down the centre and had an outstanding midfielder in team captain Brian Ryan who struck 0-10 over the hour all from placed balls. Ryan opened the scoring with a pointed ’65. The Fermoy side levelled in the 5th minute when a free by D J Cahill was sent over by Dale Dawson. The Limerick defence grew in stature and their inside forwards were very threatening. Colaiste keeper Shane O’Flynn was in great form being called on many times. Brian Ryan (free) and Liam Harrington made it 0-3 to 0-1 after 13 minutes. Colaiste had a pointed free by D J Cahill. Brian Ryan pointed in the 20th minute with D J Cahill closing the gap to a point two minutes later. By half time the winners were 0-6 to 0-3 clear.

The Limerick side had their goal early on the restart. It came when good work by Brian Barry and Mark Shanahan led to Donncha Connolly getting possession from broken play on the edge of the square and striking the net 1-6 to 0-3. From here on Crescent were well on top. Brian Ryan struck a succession of long range pointed frees and by the 50th minute they moved 1-13 to 0-3 clear. Colaiste keeper Shane O’Flynn made a massive save from Liam Harrington. The Fermoy side had late points by Aaron Spriggs and D J Cahill with Brian Ryan having his 10th point in the 59th minute. After the game John Brennan, Munster Colleges Servicing Officer presented the new Kieran O’Driscoll Memorial Cup to Brian Ryan the winning captain.
