By Michael Dundon for the Irish Examiner newspaper
Tipperary 2-12 London 1-08
Tipperary claimed their first points of this season’s Division Four campaign at the expense of London at Semple Stadium yesterday. A paltry 251 spectators saw Conor Sweeney goal for Tipperary in the 28th minute, after good work by George Hannigan to give his side an interval lead of 1-6 to 0-3. London piled on the pressure in the second half but resolute Tipperary defending maintained a three point advantage after 51 minutes.
Then the home side had points from Darren Lowry, Conor Sweeney and Brian Fox to open a six-point lead with two minutes to play. London got a lifeline with a Padraig McGoldrick goal from a penalty in the 68th minute but Tipperary hit back immediately, George Hannigan steering home Hugh Coghlan’s well-placed pass in the 70th minute. Conor Sweeney, Barry Grogan and Paddy Codd impressed for the home team while Lloyd Colfer, Padraig McGoldrick, Seamus Hannon, and David McGreevy were London’s best.
