Sheehan helps Limerick stop the rot
Limerick 1-13 London 0-12
Report from the Irish Independent newspaper
Cian Sheehan’s goal propelled Limerick to a much-needed victory at the University of Limerick’s 4G pitch after opening their campaign with three successive defeats. Limerick led by 0-6 to 0-2 as half-time approached but three scores on the bounce by Mark Gottsche, Rory Mason and Luke Gavaghan left the bare minimum between the sides at the break. Excellent points from James Naughton and Sean O’Dea widened the gap on the resumption, and Sheehan’s goal put them in complete control.
London fought back to get back to within two points but Limerick finished the game strongly and two Ger Collins points late on secured their first competitive victory of 2017. “Relieved isn’t a word I like to use too much,” said Limerick manager Billy Lee. “I am happy: happy with the performance and happy with the attitude. It’s enjoyable to get the first win. We played some nice football in patches but there are still some things for us to do but that will come in time.”
