ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION I: KERRY 3-15 TYRONE 0-9
Report from the GAA.ie web site
Kerry picked up their first win of the year in Division I with a spectacular 15-point thrashing of rivals Tyrone in Killarney on Sunday. The sides were level at 0-8 apiece at half-time but Kerry completely overwhelmed Tyrone in the second half to record a vital victory which gives them renewed hope of retaining their top tier status.

James O’Donoghue and Bryan Sheehan were the stars up front for Kerry, while David Moran delivered a towering performance in midfield. O’Donoghue hit a spectacular hat-trick, while Sheehan delivered a masterclass of free-taking, reminiscent of his clubmate and former Kerry star Maurice Fitzgerald. Kerry started the game well, and led 0-5 to 0-2 early on, following scores from Sheehan and Barry John Keane, but Tyrone edged ahead following four unanswered points, which included a spectacular long range free from Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan.
The sides exchanged scores in a tight 10 minutes before the break, with O’Donoghue completing the first half scoring to draw Kerry level ahead of the second half. The Legion man, playing in his home town, then took centre-stage in the second half. He struck his first goal three minutes after the restart, racing onto a breaking ball before cracking the O’Neill’s past Morgan.
That made it 1-10 to 0-9 and then five Kerry points in a row, including a couple of superb frees from Sheehan, had them eight ahead heading for the final 10 minutes, which turned out to be something of a procession for them. O’Donoghue hit his second goal nine minutes from time, a fine finish to the corner after a smart assist from Darran O’Sullivan, and then he completed his hat-trick as the clock ticked down, beating Morgan with a weak enough shot to the right hand corner of the net. Kerry still have plenty of work to do in their last three games, but this superb victory should give them real hope that they will once again escape the drop despite losing their opening three games.
