Munster SHC: Glory for Kilmallock in extra time
AIB Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship Final: KILMALLOCK (Limerick) 1-32 CRATLOE (Clare) 3-18 (AET)
Report from GAA.ie
Kilmallock won the AIB Munster senior club hurling title at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Sunday afternoon, after a thrilling clash with Cratloe that went to extra-time.
Kilmallock captured the provincial crown for the first time in 20 years with an eight-point victory over their Clare opponents, surviving the loss of Gavin O’Mahony to a red card in the process. O’Mahony was sent off for an off the ball incident in the 48th minute, seconds after Cratloe had struck for a goal from Cathal McInerney.

But Kilmallock, winning a third Munster title, hung in grimly and they were leading by a point deep in stoppage time before Martin Ogie Murphy’s long-range effort ensured parity for Cratloe. But Kilmallock had all the answers in extra-time, after they were restored to 15 players with Paddy O’Loughlin’s introduction.
And in the additional 20 extra minutes, Kilmallock outscored Cratloe by 0-11 to 0-3, setting up an All-Ireland semi-final clash with Ulster champions Portaferry in the process. McInerney’s goal and O’Mahony’s red card had sparked a crazy final 12 minutes plus stoppage time, as 6,365 spellbound spectators watched on.

Jake Mulcahy, scorer of 1-6, scored a 56th minute goal that put Kilmallock in the box seat but Conor McGrath’s goal two minutes later sent the pendulum swinging back in Cratloe’s favour. And yet Kilmallock came back to lead again as the Mulcahy brothers Jake and Graeme scored points to ensure a slender lead, before Murphy’s late heroics brought the game to extra-time.
At half-time in normal time, Kilmallock were 0-12 to 1-6 clear, hitting back from falling 0-1 to 1-3 behind to outscore Cratloe by 0-11 to 0-3 for the remainder of the half. Gearoid Considine’s tenth minute goal was a tonic for Cratloe but Kilmallock, who survived an extra-time semi-final epic against Sarsfields, were battle-hardened and with the Mulcahys and Bryan O’Sullivan in brilliant form, they quickly worked their way back into contention.
