The Blue Riband event of GAA Handball 60×30 Handball takes place every year on the eve of the All Ireland decider and this year Dublin’s Eoin Kennedy will contest his twelfth M Donnelly All Ireland 60×30 Handball Senior Singles Final on Saturday in the Williamstown Handball Club in Galway at 3.30pm. Kennedy from the St Brigid’s club who won an incredible 8 titles including 7 in a row will look to capture his 9th title as he takes on the reigning champion and current number 1 seed Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy. McCarthy the reigning champion from Mullingar oozes class. He will glide around the court effortlessly and pick off points at will. His form coming into this final is exemplary having seen off Kilkenny legend Ducksy Walsh in the semi finals while in the Quarter Finals he defeated Meath’s Brian Carroll. Kennedy will bring all his experience to Galway in the hope of recapturing the title he last won in 2010. A gentleman off the court the St Brigids man is a fierce competitor on the court and his classy style of play and his endless stamina levels are a joy to watch. So far this year he has looked imperious in defeating Mayo’s Dessie Keegan in the semi final, Mayo’s Joe McCann in the Quarter Final and Kilkenny’s Ciaran Neary in the first round.
Both men look to be in peak physical shape and both are playing excellent handball. In their previous four meetings the duo have shared 2 titles each with Kennedy claiming wins in 2009 and 2010 and McCarthy claiming the title in 2011 and 2012. The rivalry continues this Saturday at 3.30pm as the bid to become M Donnelly 60×30 Senior Singles Champion comes to a conclusion. A great occasion is in store at the Galway venue and a capacity crowd is expected to witness the latest installment in this great rivalry.
