Division 1: Kerry 3-24 Galway 2-19

A dream Super Sunday for the Kingdom. Kerry seized a league final spot against Mayo with a stunning display in Pearse Stadium.

Their 30-point total came with just two wides. Every single sub scored. They have hit 5-45 in their last two fixtures without a single two-pointer.

A week after his half-time withdrawal against Dublin, Shane Walsh did not tog out in Salthill. He was one of five late Galway changes. Damien Comer came in for his first start of 2025.

Kerry were without Diarmuid O’Connor due to his shoulder injury suffered in Tralee.

Despite being reduced to 14 men for a spell after a harsh Paul Murphy black card and playing against a swirling breeze, Kerry led 2-11 to 1-10 at the turnaround.

They were four points down when Gavin White got them off the mark with a goal and Dylan Geaney blasted past Connor Gleeson at his near-post on the 10 minute mark to give them their first lead of the afternoon.

The interplay before both goals was superb. Galway’s defence struggled to contain them throughout. David Clifford linked up with the selfless Paul Geaney for the first, Micheál Burns teed up the second.

A good save denied Dylan Geaney soon after while Brian Ó Beaglaoich opted to fist over just before that chance.

A dropping ball from a Paul Conroy floated effort resulted in Rob Finnerty’s goal. Pádraic Joyce’s outfit did attempt to kick ball to their inside line with encouraging results. Damien Comer was fouled for frees at the start of both halves.

Cathal Sweeney and Robert Finnerty earned similar frees. A defence splitting kick by Conroy gave Matthew Tierney the platform to beat Shane Murphy. A pure and low strike cut the margin to two.

Kerry’s response in the final quarter was awesome.

Damien Bourke palmed home at the back past after the industrious Joe O’Connor drove through the home side’s rearguard. Remarkably, that brought their league total to 16 goals.

Conor Geaney, Tony Brosnan, Killian Spillane and Barry Dan O’Sullivan all came in to score. Conroy clipped a gorgeous two-pointer before the hooter but Jack O’Connor was already looking ahead to Croke Park by then. Galway now set their sights on New York.
