2023 AIB Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship S-Final – Feenagh/Kilmeedy (Limerick) 0-20 The Banner (Clare) 0-16

Feenagh/Kilmeedy (Limerick) defeated The Banner (Clare) by 0-20 to 0-16 in the AIB Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship Semi-Final on Saturday November 18th at Cusack Park Ennis.

FEENAGH-KILMEEDY are in the Munster Club Junior Hurling Championship final following a superb 0-20 to 0-16 win over The Banner in Cusack Park, Ennis this Saturday afternoon.

Diarmuid Coleman was the star player for the Limerick side with 13 points and they will now play Cork’s St Catherine’s in the decider in two weeks’ time.

It was a tight contest throughout with the sides level 11 times but Feenagh-Kilmeedy took control in the final quarter with Coleman and Maurice Fitzgibbon very much to the fore.

The Banner had a great start with Clare senior hurler Shane Meehan opening the scoring inside six seconds and Niall Walsh soon had them two points to the good.

However, Feenagh-Kilmeedy were soon back on level terms with Luke Ryan and Coleman hitting the target. Coleman then put them in front for the first time on nine minutes.

It was back and forth for much of the first half with Meehan and Fiachra Hayes on target after John O’Gorman’s excellent score for Feenagh-Kilmeedy from the left touchline.

Neither side were able to go more than one point in front with Coleman in top form from placed balls and from play. On the other side, Meehan, hampered by a right shoulder injury, kept the Banner in touch.

Fitzgibbon had Feenagh-Kilmeedy in front heading up to half time but Meehan again was on target for his side with the break coming with the sides level at 0-10 each.

Coleman was first off the mark in the second half but Sean McMahon was soon on target to level the contest for a ninth time. They were to be level twice more as the game heading into the final quarter.

The Feenagh-Kilmeedy freetaker made it 0-14 to 0-13 with another free and made it a two point game 11 minutes from time. A Niall Walsh placed ball kept the Banner within reach but Coleman put his side two up once more with five minutes to play.

Two more from Coleman saw Feenagh-Kilmeedy four up in added time but a Walsh free gave the Banner hope. However, Fitzgibbon plucked the resultant puck out from the sky and fired over the insurance point to seal the Limerick clubs’ place in the Munster final.
