Wexford handed Tipperary a 15-point mauling in this Allianz Division 3 NFL ame at Wexford Park yesterday. The game was dominated by a card happy referee Brian O’Shea who issued 14 yellow cards. Wexford finished the game with 13 players having Paddy Byrne straight red carded on 60 minutes, and David Murphy on a second yellow three minutes later. Wexford dominated this game despite having fallen 1-1 to 0-1 after just five minutes, with Peter Acheson goaling for the visitors after just four minutes.

Playing with the wind, Wexford took the lead four minutes later, when Red Barry fired superbly to the net, and with Ben Brosnan, PJ Banville and Ciaran Lyng pointing, they went on to build an interval lead of 1-12 to 1-5. It mattered little that Wexford played into the wind in the second half as they resumed with four unanswered points through Ciaran Lyng, free, Brosnan, two frees, and PJ Banville to lead 1-16 to 1-5 after 42 minutes. Wexford’s second goal arrived in the 62nd minute when Banville shot low to the left hand corner of the net, while on 70 minutes, Lyng had a penalty saved by Matthew O’Donnell.

WEXFORD played with the greater intensity as they handed Tipperary a 15-point mauling in this one-sided encounter at Wexford Park. But this game was dominated by a card-happy referee Brian O’Shea who issued 14 yellow cards and sent Wexford’s Paddy Byrne to the line with a straight red on 60 minutes for a high-elbow tackle. David Murphy followed him after a second yellow three minutes later, despite a game of no real incident.

Wexford dominated the game to lead 1-12 to 1-5 at the interval, although they trailed 1-1 to 0-1 after just five minutes, with Peter Acheson goaling for the visitors after just four minutes. The hosts quickly led 1-16 to 1-5 after 42 minutes and their second goal arrived in the 62nd minute courtesy of PJ Banville. Tipp’s Matthew O’Donnell saved Ciaran Lyng’s late penalty but it was demoralising for the Premier County who are still seeking their first victory of the campaign.
