Fitzgibbon Cup Weekend

The Fitzgibbon Cup Weekend took place over the weekend just gone by. The weekend consisted of 8 games played on Friday and Saturday. In total, 4 grades were covered and included teams that came from all 4 corners of Ireland. We would like to extend our thank you to WIT who facilitated the weekend in their Sports Arena.

The first final played on Friday afternoon was the Intermediate Hurling Final which was contested between UL and UCD. UL proved much too strong for UCD and came out on top on a scoreline of 2-21 to 1-12.

On Saturday morning the Fergal Maher Cup Final was played between St. Mary’s Belfast and Marino Institute of Technology. St. Mary’s came out on top by a score of 4-12 to 1-8.
Following this, the Ryan Cup Final was contested by GMIT and UUJ. GMIT proved to have too much for UUJ, coming out on top on a score of 1-21 to 1-9.

The last game of the day was the Fitzgibbon Cup Final which was contested by UCC and Mary Immaculate College. UCC continued their extremely impressive form in this game, proving to have too much for Mary I. UCC won the game on a scoreline of 2-21 to 0-13. This tops off an extremely impressive double for UCC, after the UCC footballers won the Sigerson Cup during the week.

Sigerson Cup Weekend

The Sigerson Cup Weekend took place over the weekend that has just passed. The weekend consisted of 12 games played between Friday, Saturday and Sunday. These games covered 5 grades in total and consisted of teams from New York, Liverpool and the 4 corners of Ireland. We would like to thank Mallow GAA for the use of their facilities and their cooperation over the 3 days.

One of the first finals that took place on the Saturday was the Intermediate Football Championship Final. This was contested by DCU 2 and NUIG. DCU 2 came out on top of what was a very tense affair on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-9. At the same time the Corn Mac Leinn Shield Final was contested by Marino Institute of Technology and New York. Marino Institute came out on top of a very fairly contested game on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-09. The Corn Mac Leinn Final was next on the cards and was contested by Hope University Liverpool and IT Tallaght. Hope University Liverpool came out on top in the end on a scoreline of 3-09 to 0-09. At the same time the Trench Cup Final was contested by LYIT and DkIT. In what was a very sporting game, LYIT emerged victorious on a scoreline of 0-15 to 2-07. The final game on Saturday was UCD and St. Mary’s of Belfast in the Sigerson Cup Semi-Final. In an entertaining contest St. Mary’s proved too strong for UCD, emerging victorious 0-10 to 0-07. On Sunday the second Sigerson Cup Semi-Final was contested by UCC and NUIG. In what was a very tense and tight affair, UCC emerged victorious on a scoreline of 4-09 to 1-15.
