Munster GAA Statement – Shane Hourigan RIP & Barry Nash RIP

Comhairle na Mumhan CLG has extended its sympathy to the families of Shane Hourigan of Limerick and Barry Nash of Clare who were both tragically killed in separate road accidents in recent days.

Shane Hourigan was a member of the Munster and National Referees panels, took charge of many important games at provincial and national level and had a bright future as a referee. A member of the St Mary’s Sean Finns GAA Club in Rathkeale, Shane was highly regarded by players, referees and officials throughout Munster and he will be sadly missed by all associated with Gaelic Games in the province.

Barry Nash from Scariff was only 18 years old and was an All Ireland minor handball champion. He came from a family known for its great support of handball and Gaelic Games. His father, James, is a member of the Munster Hearings Committee.

Speaking on behalf of Comhairle na Mumhan, Cathaoirleach Robert Frost said “It was with great sadness and shock that we heard of the sudden loss of Shane Hourigan and Barry Nash. Both made a great contribution to Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and their tragic deaths at such young ages are a huge loss to their families, friends and communities. I extend deepest sympathy on behalf of Comhairle na Mumhan and on my own behalf to both families and assure them that our thoughts and prayers are with them at this sad and difficult time”.
