Munster Under 17 Football Competition – Tipperary 0-6 Clare 0-6
Daryl Darcy Inter County U17 Football Tournament 2013
Tipperary and Clare played out a low scoring draw in the opening game of the Daryl Darcy Munster Under 17 Football Tournament in Dr Morris Park Thurles on Monday night 7th October. Conditions were mild but wet, which made handling difficult for the players. After early Tipperary pressure Clare were first to register with a good point from play by Éimhin Courtney following a good movement up-field. Tipperary replied with two pointed frees from Alan Tynan. Missed opportunities were the order of the day at this point but Tipperary did manage two further points from play from Anthony Leahy and Shane Lonergan to go in at half time leading on a score line of 0-4 to 0-1.
On the resumption Clare came more and more into the game and points from Conol O Hainiféin and Aidan Davidson brought them to within a point of Tipperary. A good point from play from Stephen Quirke restored Tipperary to a two point lead but further scores from Courtney (free) and Davidson from play made the sides level. A Michael O’Connor point from play put Tipperary one up coming into the closing stages. A late pointed free from Davidson got Clare level and that’s how it finished on a score line of 0-6 to 0-6.
A good work out for both teams with missed chances the main talking point at the end. So spoils were divided as both counties go into the next round with room for improvement.
