Press Release – 2014 Senior Football Championship Format
A full meeting of the Munster Council took place this evening at Munster’s GAA Headquarters in Limerick following a request from Clare to call an emergency meeting to discuss the recent decision on the format for the 2014 Munster Senior Football Championship.
The Chairman Robert Frost ruled that the Munster Council has no jurisdiction to revisit the original decision taken on September 12th as this would be in breach of rule 3.31 (e) which states that alterations may be considered only on an annual basis. The Chairman referred to the alteration made at the September 12th meeting to change the format of the Championship from the 2013 structure.
The format of all Munster Championships was discussed at a meeting of the Munster Council on July 25th with notice given that this would be decided upon at the next meeting scheduled for September 12th. Notice of this September 12th meeting was subsequently sent to all delegates on August 8th. On September 12th, a meeting of the Munster Controls Competition Committee (CCC) decided on a vote of 6 to 3 to recommend to the full Munster Council later that evening a format which would see Cork and Kerry seeded for the 2014 Munster Senior Football Championship. The subsequent meeting of the Council held that evening unanimously accepted this recommendation for the 2014 Munster Senior Football Championship.
The draws for the Munster Senior Hurling and Football Championships will take place on Thursday October 3rd.
