M Donnelly Inter Provincial Football Semi-Final – Munster 1-16 Leinster 1-13

(Munster v Ulster in Football Final on Sunday next February 26th)

Munster GAA is delighted to confirm Eoin Kelly (Tipperary) and Tomás Ó Sé (Kerry) as the captains of the Munster Interprovincial Hurling and Football teams respectively.

Eoin Kelly from the Mullinahone club will be making his 5th appearance for Munster in this competition and won an Interprovincial medal in 2001. The 6 time All-Star has won 2 All-Ireland Senior titles with Tipperary and is his county’s all-time leading scorer in Senior Hurling Championship history with 21 goals and 356 points during an illustrious career at the top level.

Tomás Ó Sé hails from the An Ghaeltacht club and will make his 4th appearance for Munster on Sunday. Tomás won an Inter-Provincial medal in 2008 to add to his vast array of personal achievements which includes 5 All-Ireland Senior titles, 5 All-Star awards and 2 Texaco player of the year awards during a 15 year inter-county career with Kerry.

The Munster Hurlers will play the defending champions Leinster in Nowlan Park Kilkenny at 2:00pm on Sunday in what is sure to be a close game based on recent meetings during the last decade. Munster have won the title on 44 occasions, most recently in 2007 when captained by John Mullane (Waterford). The 2012 Munster management team is Liam Sheedy (Tipperary – Manager), Stephen Frampton (Waterford – Selector) and James O’Connor (Clare – Selector) aided by Coach Eamon O’Shea (Tipperary).

Munster Hurling manager Liam Sheedy believes this competition is very important– “Some of the best hurlers in Ireland will be on show in Nowlan Park on Sunday next and that should be very much welcomed. It would be a shame for the players in particular if this competition was not in the calendar. With the cooperation of the counties involved, we have had 3 training sessions and a challenge game and look forward to the semi-final with Leinster”.
