Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney – Redevelopment
The official opening of the recent redevelopment of Fitzgerald Stadium took place before the Kerry v Cork Munster GAA Football Championship semi-final on Sunday June 7th.
The first phase of the redevelopment involved the demolition of the old dressing room complex and the clearance of the site. In the vacant plot a terrace was constructed to complete the Lewis Rd end of the ground. Underneath the new terrace are state of the art dressing rooms for teams and officials, medical rooms and recovery rooms. Level two of the terrace includes press rooms, catering facilities, briefing rooms for Gardaí and Stewards and office accommodation. On level three stands state of the art TV studio and Control Tower. In addition to the terrace development considerable works were also carried out on the O’Sullivan Stand. This involved the extension of the VIP area, installation of seating for substitutes and the construction of a wheelchair are offering covered accommodation of lift access to the location.
The overall cost of the project was €4.8 million. Munster GAA yesterday presented a cheque for €600,000 by way of grant aid towards the redevelopment.
