Alongside his primary duties\, he contributed 0-9\, including three orange flags from frees. \nRoscommon or Derry await in the semi-final in two weeks. \nMeath opened the scoring through Cormac Walsh\, but Cork responded immediately. Tom Whooley’s goal-bound effort was saved by Cormac Fitzimmons\, resulting in a 45 that Twohig converted with ease. Ben Hegarty and Joe Miskella added points as Cork took control\, though four early wides prevented an even bigger cushion. \nA Whooley point and an orange flag from a Twohig free reflected Cork’s dominance. Another two-point free from the goalkeeper pushed them 0-8 to 0-2 ahead after 15 minutes. \nThe sides traded white flags before Miskella struck a two-pointer and Twohig added a 45\, stretching the lead to 0-12 to 0-3 approaching the break. Whooley tacked on another score as Cork went in 0-13 to 0-3 ahead at half-time. \nWind or no wind\, Cork’s momentum didn’t shift. They made the perfect start to the second half with a goal after just 20 seconds — Jacob Barry picking out an unmarked Eoghan Ahern\, who finished superbly. Twohig added a free before Harry McGuirk hit a two-pointer for Meath\, but a Royal revival never looked likely. \nO’Shea then rattled the net with a brilliant finish after Hegarty’s assist\, pushing Cork 2-14 to 0-5 ahead after 38 minutes. Walsh replied for Meath before O’Sullivan received a black card with 21 minutes left\, leaving Cork temporarily down to 14. \nMilo Stafford converted an orange flag as Meath trailed 2-14 to 0-8\, and McGuirk’s powerful run yielded a goal to reduce the margin to nine. Walsh added another point\, but a superb two-point free from Twohig steadied Cork\, who led 2-16 to 1-9 entering the final quarter. \nCork moved 2-18 to 1-10 ahead before Miskella struck their third goal\, finishing after Downing’s initial effort was saved. Captain Charlie Doran played a delightful raking ball on behind the Kerry defence to find Jack Reilly and he slotted home. \nKerry’s cause wasn’t helped by the loss of midfielder Jack Collins to injury\, but it took Kildare some time to kick on after that goal. It was just Reilly’s strike between the teams after 25 minutes\, 1-4 to 0-4\, but there were some key scores before the half-break. \nReilly\, Eoghan Lyons and Greg Kelly all landed two-pointers and suddenly Kildare held a 1-11 to 0-5 as the teams headed for the dressing room. \nIt took Kildare until the 45th minute to get their first score after the restart but crucially\, they held Kerry to just two points during that period. \nWhen Kildare’s score did arrive\, it was a goal. Paddy Creedon was their standout performer with 0-5 from play on his first championship start. \nNiall Fitzgerald made four late changes to the published Tipp team. They included a first start of the year for Jimmy Feehan\, Steven O’Brien’s first championship start of 2026\, and Creedon’s full championship debut. Killian Butler also came in\, with Mark Corcoran\, Emmet Moloney\, Eoin Craddock\, and Cian Smith missing out. \nIn the first-ever championship meeting between these sides\, Wicklow won the toss and chose to play against a strong wind. Between the conditions and the high error count\, it was no thriller. \nThere was a seven-minute wait for a score until a quickfire 1-1 had Wicklow in pole position. \nWithin 20 seconds of Pádraig O’Toole’s opening point\, the ball was in the back of the Tipp net. As Shane Garland sought to get the kick-out away quickly\, Quinn swooped to claim possession and fed Eoin Darcy. His shot was saved by Garland\, but Quinn was on hand to tap in the rebound. \nCreedon broke Tipp’s duck in the 11th minute and they were almost level moments later. Daithí Hogan squared for O’Brien\, whose palmed effort was tipped over by Mark Jackson. \nAfter Oisín McGraynor’s fisted point\, Wicklow would add just one more in the subsequent 21 minutes. \nGarland came up with a crucial intervention to deny O’Toole before Creedon and O’Connor\, after a free for dissent\, landed two-pointers to edge ahead. \nJoe Prendergast\, during a brief blood-sub cameo\, brought the sides level for the first time\, but O’Brien sent Tipp in with a slender 0-7 to 1-3 half-time lead. \nThey came out strong with an O’Connor free and Creedon’s fourth boosting them three clear. \nWicklow were level within five minutes as McGraynor kicked two frees and laid on a point for Quinn. When Quinn played a sideline one-two to split the posts\, the hosts were back ahead. \nA sloppy Tipp pass was almost punished with a goal\, only for Garland to produce a double-save from O’Toole. Once the exasperated Paudie Feehan was pinged for charging at Jackson when in with a goal chance\, Wicklow countered for their first orange flag\, through Quinn. \nSubstitute Mark Kenny and a Darcy free completed an eight-point streak for 1-11 to 0-9. \nCreedon’s fifth snapped that burst\, but Wicklow came upfield for Quinn’s second two-pointer. \nTipp battled on as Jackson made a fine save from Jack O’Neill. Patrick Collins took Cork’s last free short\, but James Owens called time before Tim O’Mahony dispatched the final effort\, which dropped short. \nThe winners trailed from the eighth minute until the 70th\, but came good when it mattered most. \nFor Cork\, it was a first-ever Munster final defeat on home soil on the 12th such occasion\, while their 12-game unbeaten streak at the Páirc since 2024 also fell. \nThe Rebels didn’t manage to score from play after Brian Hayes’s 38th-minute goal and raised no point from play from the half-hour mark onwards. \nThey head for an All-Ireland quarter-final against Offaly\, while Limerick take the direct route to the semi-finals. \nThis decider was Cork’s 14th straight sold-out championship match. In just over two years\, the Treaty and themselves have attracted seven full houses for their matches between here\, the Gaelic Grounds\, and Croke Park. \nLimerick made one late change to the published team with Shane O’Brien coming in for Adam English. \nAfter a moment’s silence for one of Cork’s greatest-ever dual players\, Denis Coughlan\, who passed away on Friday aged 80\, the men in red began with the wind into the Blackrock End. \nDiarmuid Healy was prominent as he found wide-open pockets of space three times in the early exchanges. He picked off one point and teed up Brian Hayes for a goal chance\, which whizzed over the bar. \nBy then\, Limerick already had an opportunity of their own. Aaron Gillane turned past his most familiar of all opponents\, Seán O’Donoghue\, and laid off for Cathal O’Neill\, who was denied by the advancing Collins. \nCork made the first big move in the eighth minute. Under Mark Coleman’s sideline cut\, Brian Hayes was brought down in the square by Kyle Hayes and Owens indicated a penalty. Alan Connolly handed the sliotar to Coleman and the wing-back buried his second penalty of the provincial series for 1-2 to 0-2. \nAfter his early scare\, O’Donoghue gained some significant joy from his jousts with Gillane. He fended off the corner-forward as Cork countered for a pair of Tim O’Mahony placed balls\, taking their scoring streak to 1-3 without reply and their lead to five. \nLimerick were right back in touch by the 16th minute. Diarmaid Byrnes’ long-range free dropped short and Hegarty caught the ball to bounce to the net. \nThere was the minimum between the sides\, 1-4 to 1-3\, but Limerick couldn’t get level. William Buckley\, Healy\, and O’Mahony bolstered Cork’s lead. \nNickie Quaid produced his first incredible save of the afternoon in the 25th minute\, somehow diverting Healy’s rocket around the post. It was the first Cork shot which didn’t raise a flag. \nThey soon added four in a row through an O’Mahony 65\, a brilliant Buckley point\, a Connolly free\, and an inspirational Robert Downey score for 1-11 to 1-5 on the half-hour. \nCrucially\, Limerick hauled back four points into the wind before the break. Aidan O’Connor\, who had earlier missed two frees\, nailed his final pair of the half\, while O’Neill and O’Brien split the posts. \nIt was 1-11 to 1-9 at the break and Tom Morrissey\, an early sub for the injured O’Neill\, brought it back to one on the resumption. \nAfter a Connolly free\, Cork leapt five ahead in the 38th minute. Heads-up passes from Coleman and Tommy O’Connell got Brian Hayes motoring towards goal. After being knocked to the ground by Barry Nash\, Hayes managed to bat the sliotar to the net for 2-12 to 1-10. \nCollins pulled off two fine saves in the subsequent stretch to deny O’Brien and O’Connor\, but Limerick still left with two O’Connor placed balls and a Morrissey score to cancel out the goal. \nWith O’Donoghue on a yellow card\, he was called ashore\, soon followed by Gillane\, who was held scoreless. \nRemarkably\, Morrissey was the only man to point from play in the second half until the 63rd minute. In that time\, Connolly converted three frees\, Byrnes two\, and O’Connor one. \nThere were a further series of saves. Quaid mustered a superb block on a Coleman bouncer\, while Cormac O’Brien stopped a Casey attempt. \nO’Connor slotted from play in the 63rd minute to leave the minimum between them. Connolly doubled the lead before Hegarty\, with his first touch since being moved into the full-forward line\, was charged down by Collins to spoil a point-blank goal chance. \nByrnes’ 65 was followed by Hegarty choosing to point when surging towards goal to level for the first time in 62 minutes. \nCasey came up trumps at the death. The score was 0-2 each when Power scored a goal to put them ahead\, reacting well when Callum Coffey saw his point effort come back off the post. \nIt set in motion a purple patch for Cork. O’Regan scored a point and set up another for Coffey as well as being involved in a move that ended with a Seán Riordan score\, while Coffey almost got in for a goal but Tipp corner-back and captain Conor Collins made a fine block. \nAt the other end\, Cork were thankful to goalkeeper Marley Walsh for a save from Morrisson and\, while a timely hook from Collins prevented another Cork goal chance materialising on 19 minutes\, Cormac Murphy ensured that that move ended with a point. \nIt left them 1-6 to 0-5 in front but\, by the time they would score again\, through Ryan Cagney on 28 minutes\, the four-point lead had flipped in Tipperary’s favour. \nFirst\, KJ Dunne’s catch gave him an avenue to goal and\, though Walsh saved\, Éanna Tucker was on hand to net the rebound. A sellout crowd gathered at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey where the pitch was in pristine condition. The venue was closed for over a year to complete extensive upgrades. \nDespite that glorious surface\, the first half was pedestrian. Donegal led 1-7 to 0-5 at the turnaround. The goal came after a short kickout by Patrick Doyle found Daniel O’Mahony but he was turned over by ferocious tackling from Michael Murphy. \nThe big number 14 raced in on goal and selflessly squared to Conor O’Donnell for a simple finish. \nIn a significant move\, Jim McGuinness started Shaun Patton in goals for the first time since the All-Ireland final. Cork prospect Dara Sheedy made his return after suffering a hamstring injury in April. He scored their opening point of the half. \nJohn Cleary was a man with a plan. If they had the ball\, Donegal could not hurt them. They were patient with almost every attack\, content to go slow. In the All-Ireland favourites backyard\, pragmatism has its place. \nSteven Sherlock had to deal with close attention from Brendan McCole. Gus Lohan struck a late goal for the Leinster champions\, but it proved nothing more than a consolation. \nWaters contributed nine points for the Munster runners-up while Rian Horgan and Eamon O’Sullivan scored six between them in a very slick attack. His fifth score\, midway through the half\, cut the deficit to four (0-11 to 0-7)\, but Kerry soon reasserted control. \nThe visitors finished the half with a flourish to lead 0-16 to 0-8 at the interval\, with scores shared throughout the team. Photo by Brendan Moran/Sportsfile \n\n\nA blocked down Oisín Conaty shot and a Calum O’Neill fisted attempt were the closest Armagh came to breaching Shane Murphy’s line but he was equal to both. Seán O’Shea\, seeing his first action in three months\, was alert enough to deny Conaty again in the 67th minute. \nAt the other end\, Kerry were playing for fun although they were still cranky. Thirteen points up\, Joe O’Connor and David Clifford were disagreeing but their possession ultimately led to a Graham O’Sullivan point. \nThe piece de resistance came in the 69th minute when Keith Evans lobbed Ethan Rafferty to extend Kerry’s lead to 13 points. A deserving one based on an incredible second period. \nA drudging first half of football was finished with a score completely at odds with it. Armagh were killing the clock to set up one last score attempt before the hooter when Jason Foley turned over Joe McElroy after a loose pass by Jarly Óg Burns and Kerry counterattacked in a matter of seconds. \nCombining with O’Sullivan\, Foley sprayed the ball forward and the ball broke down into the path of Paul Geaney. With Ethan Rafferty committed up the field\, the advance shocked Armagh and Paul Geaney was able to kick a goal to an empty net from the guts of 45 metres out. \nThe siren sounded seconds later as Kerry’s fans were continuing to celebrate a score that brought their lead to six\, 2-8 to 0-8. O’Sullivan was also involved in the earlier goal in the 13th minute\, his pass into an unmarked Dylan Geaney sparking the initiative for David Clifford to round Rafferty and showing the coolness to finish to the corner of the net with his second chance. \nSome will say it was just desserts for Armagh who appeared to be more interested in conserving the ball than converting scores with it. They had kept the ball for the guts of three minutes prior to the last score of the half\, Oisin Conaty’s 32nd minute point. \nAfter the mental and physical rigours of losing out to Louth so dramatically last Sunday\, Armagh were playing the long game but then Kerry were happy to present a shield around their D and let the opposition play around with it. \nArmagh began with more endeavour and led 0-4 to 0-1 after 10 minutes. \nThey were facing a wind but they had pulled five shots wide of the mark in the opening 15 minutes. \nKerry hit that mark by the 21st minute and as was the case against Donegal here Paudie Clifford was guilty on that count\, kicking a couple of wides. Cork are back in the All-Ireland decider at this grade for the first time since they last won the competition in 2019. Tyrone will provide the opposition in two weeks. \nThe Rebels were rocked by two early goals in this one\, but recovered magnificently to lead by two at the short whistle. They were the better team by a stretch in the second half\, pulling away to win by eleven. \nYet again\, goalkeeper Rory Twohig was outstanding for Cork\, his kicking ability a lethal weapon as he finished with 0-5\, including an orange flag from a free. But this was another eye-catching collective performance\, different players stepping up at different stages. It was their best display to date. \nKeith Ricken’s charges started brightly with a Joe Miskella point and a 45 from Twohig. But Derry’s first real attack yielded a goal\, Lorcan Higgins laying the ball on a plate for Conor O’Kane to finish after five minutes. \nA lovely effort from Ben Hegarty following a flowing move drew Cork level\, but the Ulster side struck again on 11 minutes when Rocco Devlin fired into the top corner after a driving run\, making it 2-0 to 0-3. \nThe sides traded white flags before an outrageous point from a Twohig free from a difficult angle cut the gap to two. \nCork then had a goal chance when Hegarty set up Darragh O’Sullivan\, but his effort was blocked on the line. It was brought back for the mark and O’Sullivan tapped it over. \nTwohig added another 45 and a beauty of an orange flag from a free to give Cork a 0-9 to 2-1 buffer with five minutes to the break. Eoghan Ahern was making things tick as the Leesiders seized momentum. \nA long Twohig free dropped into the square and was punched home by O’Sullivan\, but it was disallowed for a square ball — a very harsh call. \nDerry went down the field where Tomás Devlin pointed\, only for Ahern to convert a free as Cork led 0-10 to 2-2. The sides swapped points and the Rebels went in 0-11 to 2-3 ahead at half-time. \nDerry started on the front foot after the restart but a pair of wides frustrated them. McDermott left the bare minimum between the teams before Don Mulholland levelled matters. The Oakleafers were enjoying a purple patch and Tadhg Bradley nudged them ahead\, 2-6 to 0-11 after 37 minutes. \nAhern’s free was timely from a Cork perspective and settled them. Tom Whooley then finished expertly to the net after being allowed to run and run\, pushing Cork 1-12 to 2-6 ahead with 19 minutes left. \nThe sides swapped white flags as the game remained finely poised entering the final quarter. Conor Downing could have given Cork a real leg-up but his goal effort drifted wide. Derry had their own green-flag chance\, but Devlin was denied brilliantly by Twohig. \nAhern pushed Cork four clear\, followed by a Miskella point. The Rebels put the game to bed with five minutes remaining when sub Alex O’Herlihy finished to the net after Ahern’s involvement in the build-up\, making it 2-15 to 2-7. \nCork added four points on the trot\, with sub Kevin O’Donovan contributing two. Éibhear Quilligan pulled off seven saves to keep his clean sheet. \nDublin’s sixth successive Thurles defeat saw a promising campaign come to a disappointing end following their Leinster final thumping a fortnight ago. \nIt closed with Brendan Kenny receiving a straight red card for a reckless high hit on David Reidy\, who required lengthy treatment before being stretchered off the field to a standing ovation. \nIf Cork beat Offaly on Sunday\, Clare will meet Limerick\, who were in attendance at the Kerry-Armagh clash earlier in the afternoon. If Offaly produce a shock\, Brian Lohan’s side will instead face Galway. \nThere was plenty of intrigue about the late changes to either team. As rumoured\, Conor Cleary was introduced at full-back instead of Conor Leen to tackle John Hetherton’s aerial threat. The only catch was that the towering full-forward was withdrawn from the Dublin team\, replaced by defender John Bellew. \nCleary ended up chasing Ronan Hayes around the middle third\, but showed his comfort with an early intercept for a Shane Meehan point before claiming two high puck-outs. Injury forced his withdrawal before half-time. David McInerney also exited late in another injury headache for the Banner. \nLike Galway did to them in the Leinster final\, Dublin withdrew all but one inside forward\, Conal Ó Riain\, which led to a heavily congested middle third. \nClare were able to navigate through the mass of bodies with clever passing from Tony Kelly\, dropping deep from midfield\, and Mark Rodgers\, who lined out at centre-forward. Kelly did his defensive duties\, getting a hook on Ó Riain’s first shot\, and scoring two early points from distance. \nDublin didn’t score from play between Ó Riain’s super ninth-minute effort and Dónal Burke’s 29th-minute score\, in which time they were entirely reliant on Burke’s frees to limit the damage. \nAfter Burke was denied by Quilligan\, Peter Duggan put six between the teams. With 12 minutes on the clock\, all six forwards had scored for a 0-9 to 0-3 lead. \nSeán Rynne was causing plenty of trouble with his movement for three points. Shane O’Donnell raised the biggest cheer\, assisting and scoring his own point from an errant handpass for 0-14 to 0-6. \nDublin did all the scoring in the 10 minutes before half-time. Either side of Eddie Gibbons denying Rodgers\, Burke racked up five points on the spin\, including four frees. Ronan Hayes’s move inside caused immediate problems as he forced Quilligan into quickfire saves. \nBack to 0-14 to 0-11 at half-time\, Hayes and Burke made it a one-point game on the resumption.\nClare responded with the next four points\, although Quilligan made his fourth save to prevent a close-range equaliser from Burke. \nHetherton came on for Bellew\, with Crummey dropping deeper\, but the Dubs were enduring another dry spell with no score from play from the 37th to 54th minutes. \nClare added another four in a row with braces from Rynne and Duggan\, including a sideline cut\, for 0-22 to 0-14. Gibbons also made fine saves from Rodgers and Rynne. \nAt the other end\, Quilligan was giving an outstanding display with a flying save from Ó Riain\, Seán Currie firing just over\, and Adam Hogan blocking Brian Hayes’s effort. Their 6-25 total was one short of the 6-26 they posted against the Faithful in the league. \nHaving arrived at the quarter-finals quicker than expected in their development curve\, this young Offaly side felt every moment of the longest day of the year\, although two late goals took some of the bleak look off the scoreboard. \nBen O’Connor made four changes from their Munster final defeat. There was a first championship start for Walsh\, a second for Hugh O’Connor\, and a first in 13 months for Brian Roche. Captain Darragh Fitzgibbon returned\, lining out at wing-forward\, as injury ruled out the midfield duo of Tim O’Mahony and Tommy O’Connell. \nOffaly had Dan Ravenhill back in that department for his injury comeback. Cork moved into a 3-7 to 0-2 lead inside 16 minutes. \nThe first goal arrived in the fifth minute. Walsh was quicker than three Offaly defenders to Mark Coleman’s sideline cut and had the easiest of finishes. \nEoghan Cahill converted a 65\, but Cork had the next five points. Coleman arrowed over one and laid on a pair for his Blarney clubmate Shane Barrett\, who was enjoying the freedom of Thurles. \nAlan Connolly pointed after a HawkEye check and almost had Cork’s second goal\, but crashed his shot onto the near post. \nBrian Duignan slotted Offaly’s first point from play before the Rebels buried them with two goals in the space of a minute. \nThe first originated from Damien Cahalane blocking down Duignan\, one of many such instances in the first half. Seán O’Donoghue passed to Hayes\, who spun inside to beat the keeper. \nWhen Diarmuid Healy sent the next ball in high\, Walsh was again alert to catch it uncontested and fire in off the back stanchion. After 16 minutes\, they led by 14. \nFitzgibbon had a point chalked off as HawkEye intervened to award a previous Duignan shot\, which had initially been waved wide. The Charleville captain soon had his point to complete the set of six forwards scoring. \nIn the 28th minute\, he played the link man for a Barrett one-two as the centre-forward rifled to the net. \nCiarán Burke almost got to that shot and he was covering on the goalline again seconds later to deny Fitzgibbon a goal. The Durrow defender also blocked a Walsh hat-trick attempt out for a 65. Connolly’s dead ball was given wide after a third referral for HawkEye. \nThere were three more goal openings before half-time. Hayes was called back for a thrown pass for Connolly. Ter Guinan stormed downfield before miscuing his strike over. \nIn the fifth added minute\, Walsh was in again. Having lost his hurley\, he handpassed for Hayes to bat home. They led by 23 points\, 5-14 to 0-6\, at the break. \nEoin Downey completed the set of Cork’s three half-backs getting on the scoresheet and were later joined by corner-back O’Donoghue. \nHayes had his hat-trick in the 38th minute after Hugh O’Connor’s solo run created the opening. The full-forward\, Barrett\, and Fitzgibbon were soon withdrawn to be rested. \nOffaly had some highlight moments with goalkeeper Liam Hoare coming forward to land a monster point from play before Cahill smacked the crossbar. \nAs the game petered out\, they kept motoring for two quickfire goals. Substitute Oisín Kelly fended off Cahalane to send a low finish to the far corner. Then\, Adam Screeney robbed O’Donoghue before receiving the return pass from Kelly for 6-19 to 2-8. \nCahalane swept a Daniel Bourke effort off the line\, while Ciarán Burke made a third goal-saving block from Robert Downey. Tipp tallied 1-8 with nine further wides. Limerick managed 1-5 with six further wides. \nChris Dunne’s juggling run threatened a goal from the throw-in\, but Jack Roche got in a hook and Limerick countered for a Diarmuid Crowe point. \nAfter a Dunne free\, Conall Morrisson found pockets of space to twice push Tipp into the lead. The Moyle Rovers talent then drew a free for Dunne to convert for 0-4 to 0-2. \nAfter a lovely Crowe response direct from the puck-out\, Tipp tagged on three more. Morrisson scored one and drew a second free for Dunne\, who added another from play. \nIn the meantime\, Rian Horgan couldn’t force the sliotar home under pressure from Conor Collins and Eoin Connolly. Waters’ reply got Limerick back within one score. \nTipp created a pair of goal chances in quick succession. Morrisson’s bouncer was saved by Sam Collins and Zach O’Keeffe’s rebound flew wide. \nBut the visitors won the puck-out and KJ Dunne beat two defenders to the delivery before releasing Chris Dunne with a stick pass. The Gortnahoe-Glengoole forward dispatched a bullet to the net for his fourth goal in two games. \nLimerick bit back before half-time to rouse the home support. Horgan did well before feeding Eamon O’Sullivan\, who was fouled by James Finn. Caymon Flynn awarded the penalty and Waters arrowed it home to trail 1-8 to 1-5 at half-time. \nAmid steadying rain\, O’Sullivan pulled another point back before exchanging goal chances. Defenders William Ryan and Conor Collins got in the way to block shots from KJ Dunne and Crowe. \nChris Dunne and Waters traded points before KJ and Chris Dunne stretched Tipp four ahead; 1-11 to 1-7. \nTipp didn’t take a couple of green-flag opportunities as Morrisson came closest; his shot was half-hooked by Sam Mitchell and saved by Sam Collins before lashing the rebound into the side-netting. \nO’Brien\, a Waters free\, and O’Sullivan nibbled the deficit back to the minimum with just under a quarter-hour to play. \nSam Collins pulled off his third save\, this time from KJ Dunne. Limerick thought they had one of their own to snatch a late lead when John Ross O’Reilly’s deflected shot was turned home by Horgan. After extensive consultation with his umpires\, Flynn correctly chalked off the goal for a square ball. \nTipp had gone 11 minutes without a score until Conor Kennedy settled their nerves\, somewhat\, with a point to push them two ahead entering stoppage time\, and KJ Dunne made it 1-14 to 1-11. \nBut O’Brien and O’Reilly got the late scores to flip this final. The first time he received the ball in a scorable position along the arc\, he was swarmed by three Mayo men\, indicating the homework they’d done beforehand. \nDefences were clearly on top with Sherlock picked up by Donnacha McHugh and fellow Cork forward Jones trailed by Eoin McGreal. \nAt the other end\, Kobe had Daniel O’Mahony for company\, O’Donoghue was tracked by Jack Coyne and Beirne had Seán Meehan on his tail. \nJones nudged Cork ahead after the restart\, 0-10 to 0-9\, but Mayo then cut loose. Well\, kind of. \nThey only hit three scores between the 39th and 41st minute but two of them were two-pointers\, both from the increasingly influential Beirne\, sandwiching a McDonald single. \nMayo’s four-point lead\, 0-14 to 0-10\, was the largest either side had held to that point. \nCork cut the deficit back to the minimum\, thanks in part to two Paul Walsh points\, before Mayo got it back out to four again. \nTheir fifth two-pointer\, by Jack Carney\, left the westerners 0-18 to 0-14 clear and Conroy cut through for a single to extend the gap. \nIn the middle of it all\, McDonald had the crowd\, and anyone associated with his AFL club St Kilda\, gasping after a brilliant high catch from a Mayo kick-out which led to an O’Donoghue point. \nBrian Hurley lent some punch to Cork’s attack when he came on but they needed a goal and Brian O’Driscoll’s 64th minute shot that was saved by Jack Livingstone was as close as they came. \nLeading by five with just seconds remaining\, McDonald attempted to tie a bow on a special day for Mayo with a shot at goal after a searing solo run but his kick was blocked. Full-forward Mattie Donnelly sniped a point but his marker\, Kerry full-back Jason Foley\, was happy with his work overall. \nShane Murphy’s precise kick-outs were a feature again of Kerry’s win. Like his driven eighth minute kick that perfectly picked out a darting Mark O’Shea run\, the move ending in a David Clifford point. \nAnother Murphy missile put Kerry on the front foot in the 40th minute and the move ended with a Dylan Geaney two-pointer. \nDavid Clifford kicked Kerry’s third two-pointer in the 45th minute – Tyrone didn’t retreat after O’Brien’s brilliant fetch from a Murphy kick-out and the ball was advanced into two-point range – to leave the scores 1-16 to 0-14. \nTyrone needed a lift and got it with Darren McCurry’s introduction. Fresh off his six-point haul against Mayo\, the Edendork man wasted little time in converting a two-pointer from a free won by McGeary. \nKerry responded by bringing on O’Shea but Tyrone kept the foot down\, pinching points from Eoin McElholm and McCurry. \nMcElholm’s 53rd minute point that left Tyrone just one behind\, 0-19 to 1-17\, was a let off for Kerry as the ball hit the bar and flew over. \nMcCurry stole the show in the final quarter\, bringing his tally into double digits and doing everything humanly possible to rescue a result for Tyrone. \nBut Tyrone simply couldn’t get ahead of a Kerry side that were always just about beyond their reach. \nThat was mainly thanks to points from the two Cliffords – David fisted two scores with his ‘weaker’ right hand – and Dylan Geaney. \nMcCurry’s 10th score was a point from a 70th minute free. Kerry won the kick out and David Clifford cleverly retained possession down in the right corner forward position before freeing Heinrich who somehow got a shot away from a tight angle to the net. \nKerry fans rejoiced.
