They were looking to bridge a gap from 2009 when Blackrock claimed the only Limerick win in this competition. \nA blistering start yielded two goals within a minute of each other from either side. Eoin Condon was the first on target when his shot from distance was misjudged by Feenagh-Kilmeedy goalkeeper Michael Bergin\, and then Ruairi O’Connor netted in the fourth minute after John O’Gorman laid on the perfect pass to bring the Limerick outfit back into it. \nKyle Wallace and Sean O’Donoghue hit some wonderful points for St Catherine’s to forge ahead\, they built up a lead of 1-5 to 1-2 in the 15th minute. \nFeenagh-Kilmeedy proved to be just as accurate\, and they struck back through main scorer Diarmuid Coleman\, captain Maurice Fitzgibbon and Luke Ryan to draw level – a couple of the St Catherine’s short puck-outs going astray. \nThe sides were deadlocked once more\, before Condon flicked to the net in the 22nd minute\, the major came after goalkeeper Eoin Davis floated a long-range delivery in around the danger area\, 2-6 to 1-6. \nThe teams exchanged a brace of white flags each from there to the half-time whistle. St Catherine’s had a second goal chance but Condon’s effort close to goal shook the side netting. \nSt Catherine’s\, who recorded seven wides to three\, were 2-8 to 1-8 in front at the interval. \nWing-back David Boyce got his second point soon after the throw-in\, and further shots from Coleman – two frees and one from play – against a Sean O’Donoghue point\, 1-12 to 2-9\, tied the game again 10 minutes into the second-half. \nSt Catherine’s\, though\, regained control with teenager O’Donoghue (0-9) rattling off four unanswered points from both play and frees. \nIn the fourth quarter\, Coleman kept Feenagh-Kilmeedy’s interest intact with his placed ball efforts\, in spite of a red-card to full-back Kevin Murphy 10 minutes from time\, they kept at it. \nThe east Cork men had all the answers in a nerve-wracking finish. In the end\, there was nothing could derail Noel Furlong’s men. \nFour minutes into the second half of this Munster intermediate club hurling decider\, and with Castlelyons 3-11 to 0-9 in front\, worsening fog saw referee Conor Doyle call a temporary halt to proceedings. \nThe Tipperary official instructed 12 minutes be given to see if the fog would lift. At the end of those 12 minutes\, and with no visible improvement in conditions – excuse the pun! – another 10 minutes was added to the delay in the hope that the cloud of thick fog at the City End might lift. \nIt did\, eventually\, and so after a 22-minute pause\, the second half restarted. \nCorofin’s Michael Kelly and Diarmaid Cahill clipped the first two scores upon the restart. It cut the deficit to nine. Six was as close as the Clare champions got thereafter. \nThey needed at least one green flag to properly threaten a comeback. The closest they came was a Gearóid Kelly shot late on kept out by Castlelyons ‘keeper Jack Barry. \nCastlelyons had the fatal wounds inflicted long before the fog fell and lifted. \nBased in Dubai\, and having been a long-distance commuter during Castlelyons’ successful county championship campaign\, Anthony Spillane had his latest flight home paid for by the 16th minute of this Munster final. \nWith just over a quarter of proceedings passed\, the returning Spillane had helped himself to a hattrick. \nThe opening two green flags\, which arrived inside the opening two minutes\, captured the difference between the respective sides. \nThose opening exchanges were littered with goal openings at either end. But where Corofin mined a solitary white flag from the three goals chances they engineered\, Spillane shook the net with the two Castlelyons opportunities. \nThe clock read only 51 seconds when the inside forward\, receiving the perfect pass from David Morrison\, chalked the first of his hattrick. \nHis second saw him get on the end of a long delivery straight down the throat of the opposition defence\, while his third was a fine individual effort. \nHis third left the scoreline reading 3-8 to 0-5. An Alan Fenton free four minutes later – one of six first half white flags he contributed – swelled the lead of the Cork champions to 13 points. \nThe interval difference was a not so insignificant dozen points\, 3-11 to 0-8. \nThe defensive resistance offered by Corofin was close to non-existent at times. Castlelyons scores came without notable pressure exerted. \nAt the far end\, Gearóid Kelly supplied six of their first half eight\, four of which were placed-ball efforts. He finished with 0-12. \nAfter requiring so many attempts to get over the line in Cork’s premier intermediate grade\, Castlelyons have taken Munster at the first attempt. \nTheir journey now continues on to the All-Ireland semi-final stage. Patrick Fitzgerald was fastest to a Clonlara sideline cut and his delivery was snatched from the air and bulleted to the net by Hutchinson. \nTheir next green flag\, four minutes later\, was a full team effort. From a short puck-out\, the sliotar went through the hands of nine players as they stitched together nine passes from end to end. Mikey Mahony was twice involved\, teeing up his brother Kevin to finish. \nThat left the lead at nine and they evenly shared the next 10 points from there to the break. Pauric Mahony doubled his tally to 0-6 before Clonlara ended the half as they started it\, with a pair of points from Diarmuid Stritch and O’Loughlin. \nThe half-time score read 2-12 to 0-9 and that gap would only increase from there. They almost got in for a goal too but Tom O’Sullivan’s brave palmed effort as he took a hit went over the crossbar. \nThat left them three ahead at the change of ends. \nCollins landed a superb curler from the sideline\, but it looked like the Haven would run out of time until Maguire’s game-saving intervention. \nCastlehaven’s challenge appeared to be hobbled by injuries to Michael Hurley and Conor Cahalane with both forced off before half-time\, although the latter returned during the third quarter. \nJamie O’Driscoll was also sent off in the 55th minute for a second yellow card after a high tackle on Tom O’Sullivan but they were restored to a full complement for extra-time. \nHaving won the toss\, the Haven chose to go against the driving wind and rain. The difficult conditions were encapsulated when Jack Cahalane launched a shot from the 14m line at an angle and pointed skyward in celebration before it blew back and bounced back onto the 14. The same fate befell Mikey Geaney in extra-time. \nStill\, they were able to soak up much of what Dingle threw at them\, led by Damien Cahalane\, Johnny O’Regan\, and Ronan Walsh\, who tightly marked the Geaney dangermen. \nIt took nine minutes for the first score to arrive\, although Paul Geaney had an early goal pulled back for a foul by Tom Leo O’Sullivan on keeper Darragh Cahalane. \nThey evenly shared the first six points\, with Dingle’s Conor Flannery finding the range from distance and Dylan Geaney racing away from five chasers to point. \nEvery time\, the Haven hit back with Cathal Maguire’s outside-of-the-boot mark the pick of their scores. A bit of class from Kyle Wallace and Seán O’Donoghue proved the difference. \nIn front of a full stand in Ballinasloe that included GAA president Larry McCarthy\, a see-sawing tie swung their way down the stretch. There was late drama when substitute Adam Rolston scored in injury time to leave one between them. A bit of shred clock management helped the Munster champions see it out. There was an injury delay and then goalkeeper Eoin Davis drove his puckout out over the sideline. \nMatthew Mulcahy put an end to a string of early wides to get St Catherine’s off the mark after a great turnover by Rory Galvin. The lively Andrew Kilcullen hit back with a sensational sideline\, making up for an earlier placed ball miss. \nBoth sides allowed their centre-back to sit and sweep. That protection proved shrewd for the Cork side when Kilcullen caught a long ball at the top of the D and made for goal. He was pulled down by Oisin Fitzgerald resulting in a yellow card and tap over free. Finnian Cawley followed that up with a well-taken score to put two between them for the first time. \nA Seán O’Donoghue free cut the margin to one at the turnaround. He nailed a beauty immediately after the break before helping to create a score for Brian Mulcahy as Denis Walsh’s outfit hit the front. \nEaskey’s 38% conversion will haunt them. At one point they hit three shots short in a row before a Mulcahy point made them pay in the first half. The Sligo senior side had numerous chances to draw level before O’Donoghue spun and notched a superb score to stretch the gap. \nAs the semi-final entered the final quarter\, Easkey were back in front thanks to three consecutive white flags including an inspirational Rory McHugh effort after he drove out of a packed middle third. \nHaving diligently trudged and laboured through draining winter’s fare\, St Catherine’s found their patch and surged. The outstanding Kyle Wallace dummied and unleashed a bullet. Minutes later a ruck broke kindly for him to tap over his third of the day. Number one Davis nailed a long-range free. Eoin Condon took their total to 0-12 with five minutes remaining. DESCRIPTION:Castlelyons (Cork) defeated Toureen (Mayo) by 1-12 to 0-13 in the AIB GAA Hurling All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Semi-Final on Saturday December 16th at Glenisk O’Connor Park Tullamore. \n\nCastlelyons into All-Ireland intermediate final as they defeat Tooreen \nAll-Ireland Club IHC semi-final \nCastlelyons (Cork) 1-12 Tooreen (Mayo) 0-13  \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nCastlelyons are going to Croker. \nDespite failing to score from play between the eighth and 47th minute of this All-Ireland intermediate club semi-final\, the Cork and Munster champions came upon a pot of scores entering the final quarter that carried them into the Croke Park decider early in the New Year. \nThe very same as their recent Munster final victory\, it was Dubai-based Anthony Spillane who had the umpire reaching for the green flag. \nHis 47th minute goal here was arguably more important than the three he grabbed last time out. \nCollecting a length-of-the-field delivery from goalkeeper Jack Barry\, Spillane’s initial effort was blocked. His second attempt\, via the boot\, was forced across the white paint. \nThe semi-final’s sole green flag represented Castlelyons’ first score from play in 39 minutes. More importantly\, it moved them into a 1-7 to 0-9 lead. \nAlan Fenton (‘65) and Oscar Hallihan followed with points to stretch out their advantage to three. Castlelyons had finally found some rhythm. \nTooreen would twice pare the deficit to the minimum late on. Fergal Boland won free after free. Castlelyons defenders conceded yellow card after yellow card. But no equaliser could Tooreen engineer. \nKeeping East Cork noses in front were Anthony Spillane and James Kearney. \nFor Tooreen\, this was a fourth All-Ireland intermediate semi-final defeat in six seasons. \nFor all they did so well in the opening half and for all Castlelyons did not\, the gap between them at the break was an insignificant two points (0-7 to 0-5). \nTooreen were thrashing from the throw-in. Their intensity was manic. Many and frequent were the turnovers forced. \nIn the final minute of the regulation half hour\, four Tooreen players crowded out Anthony Spillane. Given his Munster final hattrick\, the commuting Spillane was never going to find much time or space in Tullamore. \nIt was his brother and centre-back Colm that threw over Castlelyons’ opening two points from play inside eight minutes. That pair of white flags ended up being their only first half scores from play. The remainder of their 0-5 tally were Alan Fenton frees. \nThe Cork champions amassed seven first-half wides\, further evidence of how clearly off-colour they were. \nTheir inability to settle or stamp their mark on this All-Ireland semi-final had everything to do with the pressure being applied by the Connacht champions. \nTooreen’s second point\, from Fergal Boland\, was directly sourced from a turnover. In stark contrast to Castlelyons having only one first-half scorer from play\, Boland was one of five Tooreen men – Óisín Greally\, Eoin Delaney\, Liam Lavin\, and Kenny Feeney the others – to find the mark from open fare. \nTheir outstanding regret of the half was the seven wides struck and two placed-ball efforts landed short. Their grafting didn’t generate the total it should have. The Galway side have some way to go to replicate the seven consecutive victories that Ballymac picked up from 1989 to 1995\, but with Eva Noone\, Lynsey Noone and Chloe Miskell all in outstanding form\, they continued their current run of success in fine style.  \nWhile Kilkerrin-Clonberne started the game brightly with points from Miskell and Eva Noone\, both of these efforts were cancelled out by Ballymac duo Kellyann Hogan (free) and Clare Walsh.  \nThe Tribeswomen were largely on top of possession in the opening quarter\, however\, and moved four points ahead with 0-2 salvos apiece from their ever-reliable attackers Eva Noone and Olivia Divilly.  \nWillie Ward’s charges laid down a marker in the first half of last year’s decider against Donaghmoyne and maintained their stranglehold on this game as it wore on. Nicola Ward strode forward brilliantly from centre half-back to kick an excellent 20th minute point\, before Lynsey Noone raised white flags either side of her sister Eva registering a fourth score for the title holders.  \nWaterford footballer Hogan finally disrupted this scoring sequence with another place-ball effort\, only for another sublime Lynsey Noone point to give Kilkerrin-Clonberne a commanding 0-11 to 0-3 buffer at the break.  \nLynsey Noone picked up where she left off on the restart with a point off another patient attacking move and her equally capable sibling Eva also split the uprights again after producing a superb dummy solo moments later. DESCRIPTION:St. Thomas’ (Galway) defeated Ballygunner (Waterford) 4-2 on penalties after the sides finished level after extra time in the 2023 AIB GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Club Championship Semi-Final on Saturday December 16th at Laois Hire O’Moore Park\, Portlaoise. \n\nAIB All-Ireland Club SHC semi-final: St Thomas’ stun Ballygunner \nST THOMAS’ (GALWAY) 1-23 BALLYGUNNER (WATERFORD) 2-20 \nSt Thomas’ win 4-2 on penalties \nBy Paul Keane at Laois Hire O’Moore Park for GAA.ie \nWhen this barn burner of an AIB All-Ireland club SHC semi-final tie went to penalties\, you’d have forgiven St Thomas’ for figuring they were somehow cursed with misfortune. \nSure\, the Galway club claimed a national title at the end of its maiden campaign a decade ago but it’s largely been frustration at the semi-final stage since. \nAnd on several occasions in Portlaoise it seemed like the six-in-a-row Galway champions were going to slip to their fourth consecutive All-Ireland semi-final loss. \nTake the 83rd minute\, for example\, the third minute of stoppage time at the end of extra-time\, when Eanna Burke hit what appeared to be the winner for them\, only for Ballygunner’s Billy O’Keeffe to subsequently land a Hail Mary point from the right wing 20 or so seconds later\, levelling the game and forcing the penalty shoot-out. \nFar from being deflated\, St Thomas’ redoubled their efforts and ultimately came out on top\, securing a final clash with O’Loughlin Gaels or Cushendall on the weekend of January 20/21. Successful penalty conversions from placed ball expert Conor Cooney\, who top scored on the evening with 0-14\, Darragh Burke\, Eanna Burke and Evan Duggan added up to a truly memorable win. \nAs for Ballygunner\, it’s desolation for a side that looked so assured while cruising to a 10th consecutive Waterford title and a record third Munster success. Dessie Hutchinson\, who missed one of the penalties\, finished with 1-4 for Ballygunner\, as did Patrick Fitzgerald\, but they were powerless to avoid a fourth semi-final defeat from the five that the club has contested. \nInterestingly\, Darragh O’Sullivan and his management team chose not to make any substitutions until the second-half of extra-time as they relied heavily on their starting lineup. \nAs for the St Thomas’ lineup\, it included one David Burke\, the ultra experienced midfielder and 2017 All-Ireland winning Galway captain who was finally back in the team following a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered last March. Burke wore number 19\, got on the scoresheet and lasted the duration of a game that stretched to well over 90 minutes in total. \nBuoyed also by a vocal travelling support\, St Thomas’ were at it from the word go and had the sliotar in the net within 90 seconds. \nJames Regan grabbed that early goal\, Oisin Flannery’s precise pass from the right leaving him with only the ‘keeper to beat from close range. \nBallygunner hit back with goals from Fitzgerald and Hutchinson in the fifth and ninth minutes. \nBoth goals were beauties\, Fitzgerald tearing through the centre of the St Thomas’ defence for the first Gunners goal and Hutchinson blasting to the bottom corner soon after from about 20 metres. \nSuddenly\, the favourites were back in control with a 2-1 to 1-2 lead but while Hutchinson finished the half with 1-2 and Fitzgerald showed his vast ability again with a killer pass to Paddy Leavey for a point\, the Munster champions found moments of inspiration thin in the ground. \nSt Thomas’\, in comparison\, came roaring into the game in the second quarter and reeled off five points in a row at one stage\, to roars of approval from their blue and red clad fanbase. \nThe westerners were playing with a stiff wind admittedly and goalkeeper Gerald Kelly pointed a 23rd minute free from inside his own 45. \nDavid Burke nailed a long-range score too as St Thomas’ reached the interval with a deserved 1-10 to 2-5 lead. \nBy that stage\, the match-ups were well established. Hutchinson was closely tracked by St Thomas’ corner-back Cian Mahony while Fintan Burke\, Man of the Match in the Galway final\, kept tabs on Ballygunner full-forward Kevin Mahony who’d netted twice in Munster. Eanna Burke\, scorer of 2-2 in the Galway final\, switched between the full-forward and centre-forward positions. \nThe concern from a St Thomas’ perspective was that a two-point half-time lead may not be enough considering the elements. \nAnd so it proved. Ballygunner took full advantage of the breeze after the restart. DESCRIPTION:O’Donovan Rossa (Cork) defeated Claremorris (Mayo) by 2-7 to 0-11 in the 2023 currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Club Ladies Football Junior Championship Final on Sunday December 17th at Parnell Park Dublin. \n\n\n*REPORT* \n🏆Éabha O’Donovan scooped 2-5 as @RossaGAA were crowned https://t.co/Vw6tmh9VFi Junior club champions after a brilliant battle with @ClaremorrisLGFA!  \n✍🏻 @DaireJWalsh reports from Parnell Park!@CorkLGFA @Mayo_LGFA #LGFAClub https://t.co/klQWWAOwdl \n— Ladies Football (@LadiesFootball) December 17\, 2023 \n  \nO’Donovan Rossa 2-7 Claremorris 0-11 \nBy Daire Walsh \nÉabha O’Donovan struck a majestic 2-5 at Parnell Park on Sunday as O’Donovan Rossa secured the currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Junior Club Championship title at the end of a monumental battle with Claremorris. \nOne point adrift heading into the closing moments\, O’Donovan pounced for her second goal on 54 minutes to ultimately get the West Cork side over the line in dramatic fashion. \nThere are a number of family connections in this O’Donovan Rossa side to the team that won an All-Ireland senior men’s title for the club in 1993 and the Skibbereen outfit hit the ground running in this contest with back-to-back points from O’Donovan and midfielder Triona Murphy. \nClaremorris restored parity with unanswered scores of their own by Bree Hession and captain Laura Kelly\, but after Kate O’Connell and O’Donovan responded in kind at the far end\, the latter superbly hammered an 11th minute shot to the roof of the net after intercepting a short opposition kick-out. \nThis moved the Cork and Munster champions into a 1-4 to 0-2 lead\, but a Claremorris side that were aided by a strong breeze in the opening period cut their deficit to a bare minimum on 22 minutes following successive points from Ashleagh Salmon\, Hession\, Rebecca Kean (free) and Kelly. \nYet with O’Donovan subsequently adding her second free of the game\, O’Donovan Rossa were two points to the good (1-5 to 0-6) in time for the interval. \nMore than nine minutes passed before the opening score of the second half arrived\, but a place-ball contribution by O’Donovan edged the Leesiders into a three-point cushion. \nYet with Kean\, Nina Wallace and Kelly all on target for Claremorris\, their buffer was wiped out just beyond the third-quarter mark. DESCRIPTION:Clanmaurice (Kerry) defeated Na Fianna (Meath) in the 2023 AIB Intermediate All Ireland Club Intermediate Camogie Championship Final on Sunday December 17th at Croke Park. \n\n\npic.twitter.com/zIjsdt8q0E \n— Kerry Camogie (@kerrycamogie) December 17\, 2023 \n  \n\nSuper sub O’Sullivan strikes gold for Clan  \nBy Daragh Ó Conchúir\, at Croke Park  \nClanmaurice (Kerry) 1-7 Na Fianna (Meath) 0-7  \nA goal in the 41st minute by Amy O’Sullivan\, within seconds of her introduction was the key score as Clanmaurice continued their remarkable story by winning the AIB All-Ireland intermediate club camogie title at Croke Park.  \nThe only adult side in Kerry until last year\, they were moved up to the second tier and only lost the All-Ireland semi-final after extra time to eventual champions Clonduff. And despite having just a panel of 17 to call on in the decider\, they were able to finish the job with O’Sullivan making a massive contribution off the bench.  \nPatrice Diggin’s ongoing injury issues had her playing in at full-forward where she was tracked by Shauna Ennis\, with at least one other defender slotting in alongside once Clanmaurice gained possession. That left the Munster champions with a plus one at the other end.  \nThere were opportunities nonetheless in the expanses of Croke Park but the teams had five wides between them in the first nine minutes\, indicating that there was much good play but the finishing touch was lacking.  \nThe opener was an excellent score when it did come from Na Fianna’s Aoife Carey in the 11th minute\, the midfielder splitting the posts from a free around 40m out and tight to the right sideline.  \nThe Meath side had a gilt-edged goal chance soon after\, following some slick inter-passing\, but Emma Regan must not have seen Máire Kirby inside and overcarried.  \nDiggin equalised in the 14th minute\, though it needed Hawk-Eye’s intervention to overrule the umpires after her shot from a 40m free was initially waved wide.  \nNa Fianna were more threatening though\, with Kerrie Cole the conduit much of the time with her solo runs\, but Niall Burke’s crew did not get the type of dividends they should have from those efforts.  \nIn the 20th minute\, Cole’s long ball evaded three players\, including Clanmaurice goalie Aoife Fitgerald. It seemed certain that Kirby would finish from about three feet to an empty net but Rachel McCarthy got back to prevent her doing so\, though the challenge from behind failed to make any connection with the sliotar and was certainly on the  borderline of legality.  \nFour minutes later\, Cole did the spadework for Aedin Slattery to drive over the game’s first score from play. Niamh Leen was moved onto the diminutive speedster\, who promptly rounded the Clan skipper but was then met with a late tackle that earned Sara Murphy a yellow card.  \nJohn Madden made one more switch in bringing Diggin out\, with Jackie Horgan\, another talismanic player that had struggled to get into the game\, now in her regular full-forward slot.  \nClan resumed in far livelier fashion and though Sophie Payne continued to have an impact for Na Fianna\, Cole’s influence was nullified to a significant degree.  \nDiggin and Carey swapped points from frees but then came the Clanmaurice purple patch\, kickstarted\, after good work by Danielle O’Leary\, by a Julianne O’Keeffe point in the 41st minute. It was O’Keeffe’s last act as she departed the fray along with Kate Lynch\, replaced by Elaine Ryall and O’Sullivan.  \nImmediately\, O’Sullivan had a goal\, as Leen won the puckout and got the ball to Caoimhe Spillane\, whose delivery looked sure to be gathered by Niamh Kirby. The alert O’Sullivan got a flick to dispossess the netminder in the midst of controlling the sliotar however and finished off the sod to the empty net.  \nIn such a tight encounter\, it seemed pivotal and with the wind in their sails\, Horgan lofted a phenomenal point after a clever switch of the play by Diggin to put five between them.  \nNa Fianna drove forward however\, helped by a retreating Clanmaurice.
