Marc O’Brien goals on either side of the half-time recess powered the Banner into a seemingly unassailable position\, only to have it slashed by a persistent Limerick to just a puck of the ball with minutes remaining at 2-17 to 2-14. \nSpinal forwards Michael Collins and O’Brien were central to Clare’s revenge mission\, combining for 2-9 to make amends for their only group stage reverse to the same opponents five weeks earlier. Captain Eoghan Gunning and James Hegarty were others to shine for the home side who produced an eleven-point first-half turnaround to seize control of this penultimate stage contest. \nLimerick were much slicker in that original Shannonside bout in the TUS Gaelic Grounds and began in a similar determined manner in the rematch as despite facing into the conditions\, four Darren Collopy points helped the visitors to a 0-5 to 0-1 advantage by the eleventh minute. \nAmazingly\, within three minutes the sides were level for the first time after the half-forward unit of Ronan Kilroy\, Collins (2) and Sean Arthur blitzed their stunned opponents. That stalemate would remain until Clare found another gear approaching the break as points from O’Brien\, James Hegarty\, Michael Power and Collins were bolstered by an unlikely goal with the final puck of the half. \nEoin Oige Fanning’s perseverance forced a defensive error for Michael Power to shoot on goal and when goalkeeper Joe Fitzgerald saved it\, Marc O’Brien was on hand to bundle it over the line for a 1-12 to 0-8 interval lead. \nLess than a minute into the new half\, the Cratloe Under 16 doubled his bounty when slaloming in from the left corner and somehow flicking the ball over a crowded goal-line to catapult Clare ten clear. \nIt would actually be eleven nearing the two-thirds mark before a Limerick backlash stopped the bleeding after half-time substitute Patrick Kearney excellently fielded and billowed the net at 2-15 to 1-10 in the 38th minute. \nFurther scores from Hugh Flanagan\, Robert O’Farrell and replacement Sean Duff incrementally lowered the arrears to six entering the final ten minutes. It was a fantastic day for the province with a successful hosting of the finals complemented by superb performances from our Munster representatives. \nThe stage competitions got underway with Amhrán na bhFiann sung beautifully by the first All-Ireland Amhránaíocht Aonair Scór na nÓg Champion in 1973\, Micheál Ó Riain of Pailís na Gréine\, Luimneach. A fitting way to get proceedings underway for Scór na nÓg’s Golden Jubilee. Uachtarán CLG Labhrás Mac Carthaigh was in attendance and presented the cups and medals to the newly crowned All-Ireland Champions. \nIn the Rince Foirne\, An Caisleán Nua completed a historic ‘Three-In-A-Row’ following their flawless performance of the Cross Reel. This feat is the first of its kind in the Scór na nÓg Rince Foirne competition. The South Tipperary club currently holds the highest silverware possible in Rince Foirne across all Scór competitions. \nDáithí Ó Cinnéide kept the Aithriseoireacht cup in Cúige Mumhan and brought Tipperary its second win of the day and its third Scór na nÓg recitation title after captivating the audience with the piece ‘The Cross-Eyed Monaghan Hurler’. This was Teampall Doire’s first All-Ireland Scór na nÓg success since their victorious Nuachleas in 2013.  \nIt was a historic evening for Gleann Fleisce as they claimed their first ever Bailéad Ghrúpa title. Incidentally\, in this Golden Jubilee year for Scór na nÓg their renditions of ‘The Land of the Gael’ and ‘Sailing Off to the Yankee Land’ brought the Kingdom its first Bailéad Ghrúpa title since the competition began in 1973. \nFellow East Kerry club An Spá danced their way to back-to-back titles in the Rince Seit following their lively and rhythmic performance of the Lackyke Set and brought a second All-Ireland cup to the Kingdom. \nCork’s Seán Ó Toráin of Sráid a’Mhuilinn did a fantastic job as Máistir na gCeist and provided an excellent\, broad range of questions for the Tráth na gCeist teams which saw several tie-breakers questions needed to separate the top two. \nMáirtín Ó Cathasaigh from Lios Póil\, Ciarraí was an outstanding Fear an Tí\, engaging and entertaining the crowd and did a tremendous job with Aontroim’s Caitríona Nic an tSaoir. \nHuge congratulations to the winners\, organisers\, Fear & Bean an Tí\, Máistir na gCeist and everyone involved in the efficient running of the final. DESCRIPTION:Sligo defeated Kerry by 1-8 to 0-9 in the All-Ireland GAA Under 20 Football Championship Semi-Final on Saturday May 6th at Pearse Stadium Salthill. \n\nEirGrid U20 Football SF: Sligo advance to decider \nSligo 1-8 Kerry 0-9 \nReport By Cian O’Connell at Pearse Stadium for GAA.ie \nRegardless of the age grade or level Kerry will always be a prized scalp. Unsurprisingly Sligo’s passionate supporters saluted this stirring success in Salthill. \nHaving defeated Roscommon\, Mayo\, and Galway in Connacht\, Paul Henry’s team will contest an All-Ireland final. \nThis game examined Sligo’s character and panel depth\, but they found a way in resilient fashion. \nPlaying into the teeth of a strong breeze Sligo were eager and enthusiastic throughout the opening period. \nRoared on by a voiceferous support Sligo were dealt a blow when captain Canice Mulligan was forced off injured in the ninth minute. \nBy that stage Rob Monahan had clipped a couple of points for Kerry\, but Sligo responded. \nRonan Niland and Luke Crowley traded scores before Sligo pounced to net a tonic 12th minute goal. \nIt was all about Niland’s skill and style following an exchange with Daire O’Boyle as Sligo hit the front. \nFrom then until the interval Sligo defended with admirable determination with the teams eventually departing deadlocked 1-3 to 0-6 at the break. \nAfter the restart Kerry crafted chances\, but they weren’t sufficiently clinical converting. In the third quarter Kerry only nailed two from seven attempts as Sligo remained defiant. \nA 46th minute point from a Dylan Walsh ’45 levelled matters at 1-5 to 0-8\, and then Luke Marren (free) and substitute Brian Byrne added further Sligo scores. \nSuddenly Sligo were ahead by two. DESCRIPTION:TG4 Munster SFC  \nWaterford 1-9 Tipperary 1-7  \nStephen Gleeson reports   \nAn absorbing contest was in the balance until the last second but in the end\, Waterford secured a two-point win over Tipperary in the 2023 TG4 Munster Senior Championship clash at Dungarvan GAA club on Sunday afternoon.  \nAfter a cagey start\, Waterford opened the scoring with a green flag\, when a powering run by Kate McGrath began an attack that was finished to the net by Lauren McGregor in the ninth minute.   \nSix minutes later\, McGregor added a point before Kellyann Hogan sent a free over the bar to put Waterford 1-2 to 0-0 up.   \nTipp roared back into the match in the 20th minute when some Aishling Moloney trickery set up Clara English who found herself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.   \nShe blazed over from close range but a minute later Marie Creedon set up Emma Morrissey at the edge of the square\, where she calmly palmed to the net.   \nGame on\, with the home side just a point up after dictating the early proceedings.   \nWaterford showed real character to respond again. DESCRIPTION:Kerry defeated Clare by 0-14 to 0-12 in the Munster Intermediate Camogie Championship Semi-Final on Sunday May 7th at the TUS Gaelic Grounds Limerick. \n\nKerry to face Cork in Munster Intermediate Camogie final after lowering the Banner in tense semi-final \nReport by Jimmy Darcy at the Gaelic Grounds\, Limerick \nKerry 0-14 Clare 0-12 \nKerry’s annus mirabilis in camogie continued in Cusack Park on Sunday as they booked their berth in the Munster Intermediate Final against Cork with a hard-fought but fully deserved victory over Clare. Kerry went through the National League unbeaten to lift the Division Two title and maintained that winning sequence against a quality Clare outfit\, but they were put to the pin of their collar to do so. \nStar of the show was undoubtedly Niamh Leen\, who gave a phenomenal display even by her own high standards\, but every single Kerry player had to dig deep against a Clare side that pressed hard all through. \nSharpshooter Patrice Diggin got Kerry off the mark with a well-executed free as Jackie Horgan in midfield was already setting the tempo as she got back to snuff out a dangerous Clare attack. \nKate O’Gorman picked off a nice point to open Clare’s account but Diggin replied with a free from way out near the sideline. Clare’s Jennifer Daly very neatly lifted the ball off a Kerry player to fire over a sublime score\, and Clare were having slightly the better of the exchanges at this point\, with Kerry’s full back line working very hard to repel dangerous attacks. \nTwo Aisling Cooney frees gave Clare a 0-4 to 0-2 lead. Kerry were winning good ball but could only muster a single point\, a free from Patrice Diggin\, from seven scoring chances. Things certainly looked ominous enough at this stage. \nClare goalkeeper Lauran Solon batted away a long range effort by Diggin\, but good pressure by Ciara O’Sullivan saw her cough up a ’45 coolly slotted over by Jackie Horgan and Kerry were level. A good defensive clearance by Aoife Behan saw Caoimhe Spillane pick off a fantastic score that seemed to energise Kerry. \nStraight from the pick-out Patrice Diggin returned it with interest to make it 0-6 to 0-4. Kaci Toomey reduced the gap to one but a foul on Laura Collins saw Patrice Diggin have the last word of the first half with another free to make the half-time score\, Kerry 0-7 Clare 0-5. \nAmy O’Sullivan beautifully clipped over the opening score of the second half to put a goal between the teams. Clare weren’t going away though\, as dynamic midfielder Grace Carmody used her pace and direct running to slot over two scores and narrow the gap to the minimum again\, 0-8 to 0-7. It was already clear that this game was going to go down to the wire. \nKerry were able to lift it a gear. Amy O’Sullivan picked off another fine point. Jackie Horgan\, now switched into her more customary role at full forward\, gathered a good ball from imperious centre back Niamh Leen and split the posts. Aisling Cooney replied with a free to keep the margin tight but Patrice Diggin restored the goal gap between them. \nClare thundered forward\, but Niamh Mulqueen’s attempt to burst through was deemed an illegal charge by alert referee Diarmuid Phelan. Things were just as tight at the other end\, with Niamh Leen denied by a superb block by Sineád O’Keeffe. Clare sub Aoife Anderson cut the gap back to two points. \nClare wing forward Jennifer Daly\, always dangerous\, struck another beauty and it was a one point game\, 0-11 to 0-10. The cat was really in among the pigeons now! \nGood work by Niamh Leen saw Jackie Horgan ease the cloying tension a fraction with a good score. Leen set up Patrice Diggin for another. At 0-13 to 0-10\, there was real daylight between the teams with time starting to run out\, but Clare were far from done. Labhaoise O’Donnell won a free converted by Kate O’Gorman and O’Gorman won and slotted another. Just one point in it again. \nKerry’s veteran triumvirate combined for a crucial free. Niamh Leen drew the foul. Jackie Horgan\, with that telepathic instinct of long comrades in arms\, took it fast and lofted it neatly to Patrice Diggin in space. The ace markswoman doesn’t miss that kind of opportunity. DESCRIPTION:Cork and Kerry played out a 2-14 to 2-14 draw in the Munster Senior Ladies Gaelic Football Championship on Sunday May 7th at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. \n\nTG4 Munster Senior Championship   \nCork 2-14 Kerry  2-14  \nBy Anthony Newman   \nHonours even between Cork and Kerry in their TG4 Munster Senior Ladies Football clash at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday.  \nA dramatic finish saw Cork come back to earn a well-deserved draw as they scored 2-4 without reply\, meaning it all goes down to the final round of games to see who will reach the Munster final.  \nFull credit to Cork\, who never gave up despite an outstanding display from Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh\, who finished with 1-7.  \nHowever\, of concern for Kerry will be the fact she left the pitch late on with an injury.  \nCork took the lead two minutes in when Doireann O’Sullivan pointed from a free\, before Eimear Kiely added a second.\nKerry’s first chance came after nine minutes when Niamh Ni Chonchúir played Ní Mhuircheartaigh in but her shot came back off the post with the Cork defence then clearing the breaking ball.  \nDoireann O’Sullivan raised another white flag for Cork as they were enjoying the better of the opening exchanges.\nNi Chonchúir got Kerry off the mark and from the restart they took the lead. Ní Mhuircheartaigh played Niamh Carmody in and she found the back of the net as Kerry has settled into the game at this stage.  \nA sweeping Cork move had the sides level with Kiely getting her second and the Rebels’ fourth point.\nNi Chonchúir put Kerry back in front before a tackle on Katie Quirke led to a discussion between the referee and his umpires. After a lengthy conversation\, he awarded Kerry a free out.  \nNí Mhuircheartaigh increased Kerry’s lead as they started to push up on Cork kick-outs and were causing problems for the Cork defence.\nLibby Coppinger got on the scoresheet for Cork to make it 0-5 to 1-3 with 20 minutes gone.  \nNí Mhuircheartaigh scored another magnificent point for her side as they took a three point lead with three minutes to half-time.  \nFiadhna Tangney increased their lead\, before Coppinger raised a white flag for Cork.\nNí Mhuircheartaigh added a point from a free before a superb block from Roisin Phelan denied Carmody a second goal.\nDoireann O’Sullivan pointed again for Cork as they trailed the Kingdom by 0-7 to 1-7 at half-time.  \nCork started the second-half brightly with Kerry keeper Ciara Butler saving well to deny Quirke a goal\, before Erika O’Shea pointed for the home side.\nThree minutes into the second-half\, a clash of Meabh O’Sullivan and Síofra O’Shea as both went for the ball led to the latter having to leave the pitch.\nAfter that\, and having consulted with the same umpires\, the referee awarded Kerry a penalty\, which Ní Mhuircheartaigh duly dispatched to the back of the net.\nShe added a point as did Anna Galvin as Kerry were now in control and built up a lead of 2-11 to 0-9 after 45 minutes.  \nNí Mhuircheartaigh kept adding on the points before Orlaith Cahalane got on the score sheet for the home side and the same player was denied a goal by Butler after 52 minutes.  \nCahalane got a late goal for Cork to set up a dramatic finish\, with Eimear Kiely raising another green flag to put only a point between the sides. It was a moment of sibling telepathy\, with Paudie pointing where he wanted his brother to run and David beating the keeper to the lofted pass. \nThe gap was 12 by the mark\, 3-8 to 0-5\, and game over. \nKerry advance into Group 1 of the All-Ireland series\, where they will welcome Mayo to Killarney in a fortnight’s time before facing Cork (away) and the Leinster final runners-up (neutral venue). \nTheir only worry arising from this result was full-back Jason Foley limping off in the final minute. \nClare go into Group 4\, where they will meet Donegal (home)\, Monaghan (away)\, and the Ulster champions (neutral venue). \nDylan Casey came in for the injured Paul Murphy and was handed the tough task of marking Eoin Cleary on his first Championship start. He did most of his early work heading towards the opposition goal\, however. \nHe fisted their opening point and was Kerry’s nearest man to the target\, swooping into the full-forward position\, to set up their first goal in the 15th minute. Tony Brosnan played the give-and-go and applied the dummy-hop finish. \nFour minutes later\, Kerry had another. Wonderful kick passes over and back from Brosnan and Paul Geaney (who assisted 1-3 in the opening half) crafted the opening for Dara Moynihan to capitalise. \nClare\, in their first final since 2012\, had to wait 24 minutes for their first score from play\, via the dangerous yet isolated Keelan Sexton\, but the Banner were kicking away the match with misdirected passes and shots. \nIt was Ciarán Russell’s turnover that was clinically punished by the Clifford clan for Kerry’s third. \nDavid could’ve had another in the opening minutes but Jerome Henry didn’t allow the advantage as he slotted to the net\, while Paudie prevented Clare’s best chance with a penalty-box interception. \nA Stephen Ryan free and Emmet McMahon closed to gap to 10\, 3-8 to 0-7\, at the halfway mark. \nRonan Lanigan came on as part of a half-time double sub and he had Clare’s first goal chance soon after\, set up by Russell\, but Shane Ryan saved his punched effort. \nHe made an even more impressive save when one-on-one with Pádraic Collins in the 43rd minute. By then\, Kerry already had their fourth goal. \nAnother David Clifford reverse run caught out Clare full-back Cillian Brennan. Tom O’Sullivan supplied the pass and Clifford rifled to the far corner. \nIn the 44th minute\, they had their fifth. DESCRIPTION:Clare defeated Tipperary by 3-17 to 0-17 in the oneills.com Munster GAA Hurling Under 20 Championship Semi-Final on Monday May 8th at FBD Semple Stadium Thurles. \n\nSmyth bags 2-7 as Clare defeat Tipp in Munster U20 semi \nMunster U20 Hurling Championship semi-final  \nTipperary 0-17 Clare 3-17  \nReport by Stephen Barry for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nAn iron-willed defensive effort sent the Clare U20s into their first Munster final at this grade since 2015 with a nine-point victory over Tipperary. \nThey will meet Cork in the final\, the same match-up as Tuesday’s minor decider at the same venue. \nKevin Smyth did the damage up front\, providing an outlet for the long-ball option and scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to take his tally to 2-7. \nThe Banner outscored Tipp by 2-3 to no-score in that final stretch\, with all but one point from Smyth. \nA third clean sheet in five games completed the job for Terence Fahy’s side\, who were led by superb performances by Daithí Lohan\, nephew of senior manager Brian\, Oran Cahill\, Ian McNamara\, and Oisín O’Donnell. \nCahill and O’Donnell rotated duties as the extra man at the back while keeping an eye on Tipp’s floating danger-man Peter McGarry. \nLohan\, who was carried off injured on the hour mark\, put in a dominant performance under puck-outs and covered every last blade of grass during a second half in which Clare conceded just six points. \nJa Collins and Diarmaid Stritch produced vital tackles to deny Tipp the lifeline of a late goal for Maidhc Fitzpatrick or Joe Egan\, while Seán Kenneally batted another chance wide under pressure. \nWhen the hosts did get an effort on target\, Aaron Shanahan stood up well to save from McGarry. \nIt says much about Clare’s defensive riches that they didn’t seem to miss regular full-back Adam Hogan\, unavailable due to his senior involvement. \nSmyth’s first goal was the killer blow. He grabbed McNamara’s skyscraper delivery to dispatch a bullet finish. The latter\, in the final moments\, was a long-range free that bobbled past Jason O’Dwyer and across the line. \nThat just about summed up Tipperary’s night as they were left to count the cost of seven misses from their own placed-ball efforts. \nThese two split 40 points between them in drawing their Munster opener six weeks back and there was nothing to separate them by half-time\, 0-11 to 1-8. \nBrendan Cummins’ side had three of the first four scores\, through Jack Leamy (free)\, Eddie Ryan\, and Cathal Quinn\, but it didn’t reflect Clare’s efforts as they soon turned it around. \nThe Banner were able to pull out bodies and exploit the space left behind. By the 18th minute\, they had more than double the number of shots of their opponents (14 to 6) but missed nine of them. \nStill\, they registered the only goal to help them into a three-point advantage. Smyth’s long-range free was batted down by O’Dwyer\, who had the sun shining into his eyes. \nIt was kicked to the side but David Kennedy regathered\, turned on a sixpence down the endline\, and while O’Dwyer saved his initial attempt\, he was able to flick in the rebound. \nPoints from Jack O’Neill\, Patrick Crotty\, and Smyth (free) made it 1-4 to 0-4 but it should’ve been more. \nTipp did have one goal chance in that period\, with Shanahan saving well from Kenneally although he did have the consolation of play being called back for a free\, which Leamy pointed. \nThe home forwards forced two turnover frees from opposition defenders which helped them get back level\, with Leamy slotting one and giving the other short for a McGarry point. \nTipp’s efficiency was their saving grace in this spell. Another three-point run pushed them two ahead\, with Kenneally (0-2) and Ryan splitting the posts. \nBut Clare finished the stronger. DESCRIPTION:Clare defeated Cork by 1-19 to 0-15 in the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Hurling Minor Championship Final on Tuesday May 9th at FBD Semple Stadium Thurles. \n\n\nREPORT: @GaaClare produced a performance full of skill and steel to defeat @OfficialCorkGAA in the Electric Ireland @MunsterGAA MHC Final #GAA \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) May 9\, 2023 \n  \nSecond-half scoring burst key as Clare land first minor hurling title since 2011 \nClare 1-19 Cork 0-15  \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nPart one of the Cork-Clare May trilogy has gone the way of the saffron and blue. \nTuesday evening’s Munster minor hurling final was the first of three occasions over a 12-day period where Cork and Clare will collide inside the whitewash. \nNext up is the Munster U20 decider on Monday\, followed six days later by the Round 4 Munster senior fixture. \nThree games that will go a distance in defining the respective counties’ hurling summer. \nGiven the claustrophobic nature of the Munster round-robin table\, that third and final Cork-Clare get-together on Sunday week will have a significant say in the top three fortunes of either county and whether their summer extends beyond the end of this month. \nAs for the minor and U20 finals\, their purpose was and is to capture the health of the respective underage structures in either county.  \nOn that front\, the picture painted on Tuesday evening – and in keeping with the county’s rising graph of the past year or so – was of a rapidly improving Clare production line. \nCork’s 40-point hammering of Clare at this grade two years ago seems like a lifetime ago now.  \nClare’s minor class of 2022 showed Cork the exit door at the Munster semi-final stage. As for the current crop\, their five-point round-robin win over Kieran Murphy’s Cork outfit was backed up here with an even more impressive seven-point winning margin. \nThe result\, at the end of an error-heavy provincial final\, delivered the county only a fifth Munster minor hurling crown\, and first since 2011. \nIn front by the minimum at the break\, a third quarter where Clare struck 1-4 and Cork struck nothing was decisive. 1-14 to 0-9 read the scoreline. It was an eight-point gap Cork were unable to meaningfully eat into. \nThe goal was swept home by corner-forward Eoin Begley after Marc O’Brien’s initial effort had been saved by Cork ‘keeper Fionn Murphy.  \nO’Brien\, Begley\, and the half-back pair of Matthew O’Halloran and James Hegarty (free) added the four white flags to complete the unanswered 1-4.  \nEoghan Gunning was the third Clare defender who got among the scorers\, the Clare captain and corner-back turning in a superb showing. \nBarry Walsh sent over Cork’s first point of the second half on 46 minutes. Walsh time and again carried the fight against Clare’s dominance. \nThe Banner\, as mentioned\, had led 0-10 to 0-9 at the break. It was a first half where they were never led. \nClare shot three in front inside four minutes. Centre-back Hegarty (free)\, Marc O’Brien (free)\, and O’Halloran were the first names on the scoresheet. They would\, however\, add only three more in the ensuing 21 minutes. \nCork had a monopoly on possession during this period. They were very slow to make use of it. \nIn a series of plays inside the opening 10 minutes\, Cork had consecutive point attempts sail wide\, drop short\, blocked down\, drop short\, and again drop short.  \nClare goalkeeper Mark Sheedy was commendably composed under those point attempts that lacked the necessary legs. \nJames O’Leary had Cork’s first from play and second overall on 12 minutes. Their total should have been far\, far greater even at this early juncture. \nBarry Walsh was responsible for 0-7 of Cork’s first half 0-9. His fifth and final free of the opening half brought Cork level for the first time at 0-8 apiece two minutes into injury-time. \nMichael Collins provided an instant Clare response. Walsh\, with his second from play\, tied matters once more. The final say of the half\, though\, went to Clare. Collins was fouled\, O’Brien converted. \nClare’s next score was the Begley goal that sent Brian O’Connell’s charges down the road to victory. \nCork’s outstanding shot at a green flag had arrived late in the first half. Brian Lynch was hooked as he pulled the trigger. His rebound crashed against the post. DESCRIPTION:Cork defeated Kerry by 2-12 to 0-14 in the Electric Ireland Minor Football Quarter-Final on Thursday May 11th at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. \n\nSheedy leads Cork to win over Kerry to set up semi-final against Tipp \nCork 2-12 Kerry 0-14  \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nFirst blood to Cork. We have to allow\, though\, for a small bit of shadow boxing. The strong likelihood is these two will renew acquaintances in next month’s provincial decider. \nThursday evening’s quarter-final result\, watched by a very healthy crowd of 2\,367\, means Cork will enjoy home advantage for their semi-final against Tipperary. Kerry\, meanwhile\, will play Phase 1 winners Limerick. \nIt was a quarter-final of little jeopardy. Both sides knew they’d have a second evening out regardless of the result. It was a quarter-final where Cork played the better\, smarter\, and sharper football. \nTop of the class for Ray O’Mahony’s side was centre-forward Dara Sheedy. The Bantry youngster displayed a wicked feint and wonderful final product. He swung over 1-5\, 1-3 from play. \nIn a second period where Cork managed only two scores in the opening 26 minutes and went scoreless for 16 minutes of that period\, Sheedy’s superb 34th minute goal was key. \nThe green flag moved the hosts 2-8 to 0-9 ahead. It gave them necessary breathing space on the scoreboard when midfielder Mark Hetherington was black carded on 44 minutes. \nCapitalising on their player extra\, Kerry’s Paddy Lane and Daniel Kirby kicked three without reply to cut the gap to 2-9 to 0-13 on 52 minutes. Kerry sub Stephen Gannon had a half goal chance to take Wayne Quillinan’s side in front. Cork ‘keeper Billy Curtin did what was required. \nSheedy and full-forward Séan Coakley pushed Cork back out to four in front. Nerve-settling scores. They held on from there. \nThe interval scoreline had read 1-8 to 0-9 in Cork’s favour. The home side’s withdrawn half-forward line and the space it created in front of their inside line\, which the Cork runners from deep repeatedly exploited\, saw Kerry’s defence come under sustained pressure. It was pressure they struggled to resist. \nEleven minutes in\, Cork’s pace of play and intelligent use of possession was the foundation to their five-point lead. Timothy Cullinane\, another Cork forward who merits mention\, was among the contributors to this early lead. \nKerry took a while to warm to proceedings. Their danger boy Paddy Lane opened their account on 12 minutes. He supplied half their 0-14 total. \nCork had their opening goal on 18 minutes. Denis O’Mullane was pushed\, Coakley converted the penalty. \nKerry grew in the second quarter. Not enough\, though\, to ever gain parity. No harm\, mind. When the sides met in the round-robin\, Tipperary beat them by double scores\, but in a heart-stopping finale it was Darragh Hogan’s goal two minutes from time that regained the lead\, 1-8 to 1-6. Substitute Ronan O’Connell’s point was the icing on the cake. \nLimerick progress to meet Kerry in next week’s semi-final. \nTipperary\, meanwhile\, contributed to a very enjoyable game\, and lost nothing in defeat. In a new format\, they get a second shot against Cork. \nTipperary\, with the breeze\, had the better start. They sent over the first point from a Tadgh Whyte free. Liam Freaney floated over their second with Louis Coughlan doing much of the spade work. \nLimerick eventually settled in the seventh minute\, buoyed by an effort from centre-back Cathal Woulfe after he combined with Evan Curry. \nWith captain Aidan O’Shea operating effectively around the middle of the field\, they upped their performance to kick the next five points unanswered – Padraic Murphy\, Cian Costelloe\, Andrew Lyons (free)\, Callum Buckley and Adam Murphy. Along with doing their own job\, three of the six points came from defenders. \nTipperary were grateful to see the scoreboard move again through Freaney and Jamie O’Keeffe. It was 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval. \nTipperary returned to play with a lot more intensity as manager John McNamara introduced two subs. Limerick goalkeeper Sam Guerin had to be alert to stop Whyte but the custodian was finally beaten when sub Charlie Grace scored an excellent solo goal. When the same player followed with a point\, the Blue and Gold were in the ascendancy\, 1-5 to 0-6. \nLimerick showed no sign of backing down. They never let up\, right from the first point which came after a mere 12 seconds. \nClare were not allowed to settle\, as the Morrissey Cup returns to Tipp for the first time since 2010. \nAll but five of the winners points came from open play – they fired so many excellent scores to shape this emphatic win. \nThey took an early lead with quick-fire points from Caoimhe Maher\, Teresa Ryan and Cáit Devane. Eimear McGrath’s eighth minute free put them four up. \nClare set up defensively\, the flip side was they couldn’t neutralise the effect of sweeper Karen Kennedy who got on an amount of ball – the centre-back was also crowned Player-of-the-Match. The visitors had to wait until free-taker Lorna McNamara opened their account in the ninth minute. \nTipp continued to raise white flags\, some delightful long-range points to move 0-8 to 0-2 up after the first quarter. Caoimhe Maher’s goal attempt saved by Clare ‘keeper Doireann Murphy. \nChief-scorer McNamara continued to keep Clare in touch. Just when they had the gap down to five\, Eimear Heffernan turned her marker to fire a brilliant goal in the 24th minute to the top corner\, 1-9 to 0-4 McNamara landed a brace\, but Tipperary outscored them four points to two ensuring an interval lead of 1-13 to 0-6 – eight different scorers highlighting their range of scoring options. \nÁine O’Loughlin gave Clare a tonic start to the second-half when she rose high to fetch a McNamara free and strike an unstoppable shot to the net. Aoife Keane followed with a point from distance\, the scoreboard now moving in Clare’s favour. \nTipperary were having none of it though and reeled off the next five points unanswered. \nThey continued to dictate\, shooting the final seven points without reply. DESCRIPTION:Laois defeated Kerry by 4-23 to 0-21 in Round 5 of the Joe McDonagh Cup on Saturday May 13th at Austin Stack Park Tralee. \n\nStephen Molumphy ponders future as Laois let loose in Kerry  \n2023 Joe McDonagh Cup Rd 5 \nKerry 0-21 Laois 4-23 \nReport by Murt Murphy for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nIn what turned into a phony war as the result did not really matter at the end of day once Carlow beat Offaly\, this Joe McDonagh Cup clash between Kerry and Laois never lived up to its billing.  \nLaois pulled clear in the second half and three goals settled the issue as the home side were all at sea during the final quarter. \nIt was also probably long serving talisman Mikey Boyle‘s final game for the Kingdom as he confirmed he is ninety-nine percent sure that he will not be around next year.  \nBoyle equaled the great Johnny Conway’s 143 senior league and championship appearances with Kerry and it might be the best way to bow out after 18 seasons. Another Kerry player Sean B Weir from the Crotta O’Neills club also confirmed that he is calling it a day after over a decade of loyal service. \nBut this disappointing ending to Kerry’s Joe McDonagh campaign also marks the end of manager Stephen Molumphy’s two-year term in charge and while he wasn’t confirming that it was the end of the road\, he was not intimating that he was returning for another term.  \n“It wasn’t the result we wanted\,” he said\, “we wanted to win here no matter what but the second half was extremely disappointing. We will learn from this today and it’s not the point we wanted to finish on\, but that’s sport.  \n“When asked would Stephen Molumphy be in charge of Kerry next year\, his reply was revealing: “Look as I told the lads inside in the dressing room; it has been an honour to be manager of the Kerry team and it would be an honour again. I suppose with my wife due in four days’ time\, so that is the immediate battle\, but look we will see what happens. I haven’t seriously thought about it yet because I was focused on Offaly in two weeks’ time if we had won and Offaly had so there was no need to think about it until the championship was over.  \n“I always say to the players that they should leave the jersey in a better place and a manager should leave something here and I think they are in a better place but that is only my opinion.”  \nThe opening half was entertaining but it was also a half of missed chances by both sides with Kerry shooting 11 wides while Laois had a wide tally of seven. But it was competitive despite the fact that as the half went on the scoreline from Dr Cullen Park began to filter through and the fact that Carlow were hammering an understrength Offaly side meant that the result in Austin Stack Park was academic. \nThe sides swapped scores on nine different occasions in the opening half with Kerry shooting five wides in the opening six minutes but they led 0-5 to 0-3 after 10 minutes. Jordan Conway scored a brace of points while Shane Conway added two frees and Brandon Barrett scored a fine effort from play. But Laois thanks in the main to the accuracy of Stephen Maher kept tabs on Kerry and two late Laois points from Maher and Aidan Corby saw Kerry trail by just two points at half time\, 1-12 to 0-13\, with Stephen Maher’s 18th minute goal the difference beaten the sides. \nBy this stage one presumed that the scoreline from Carlow would have been known to the players and though Padraig Boyle and Shane Conway (free) scored the first two points of the second half to tie the score\, Laois took over\, with Maher shredding the Kerry defence while Edna Rowland converted a penalty for a foul on Stephen Bergin in the 42nd minute and the floodgates opened. A goal in either half\, one from Cathal Downes and the other\, a penalty from Brian Donovan\, helped the Treaty oversee a stern Longford test. \nIt was a game that the home side led for long periods\, and despite conceding a late goal from Daniel Reynolds\, Limerick held on. \nDespite being relegated from Division Two\, Mark Fitzgerald’s side played with plenty of confidence\, gained with their quality performance against Clare in the Munster semi-final. \nLimerick got their first score on five minutes\, with Cathal Downes curling beautifully to the top corner\, after a nice flicked pass from Colm McSweeney. This made it 1-0 to 0-1\, after Ryan Moffett finished a fine team move for the Leinster side. \nThere was nice scores from Longford’s full-forward\, Dylan Farrell\, including a free from outside the 45 metre line. He also curled a lovely\, long-range effort from play. His overall contribution a positive for Paddy Christie’s men. \nPeter Nash and James Naughton (frees) helped Limerick stay in control\, while Paul Maher kicked a nice point. \nThe Treaty led by four\, 1-8 to 0-7\, at the interval. The visitors inched closer thanks to Oran Kenny early in the second-half\, but there disaster struck when they conceded a 45th minute penalty. Amid a goalmouth scramble\, Mickey Quinn was adjudged to have fouled the ball inside the square. Brian Donovan – as he did in that penalty shootout victory over Clare last season – dispatched to the net\, for a five point buffer. \nLongford wouldn’t get much closer until early into six additional minutes. They went direct\, with Andrew Farrell now at full-forward. He broke the ball to Reynolds\, who smashed high beyond Donal O’Sullivan. It was now 2-15 to 1-16. They returned just six points in the second half and the same number from play. \nCalum Lyons’ 31st-minute red card\, for two yellows\, gave Clare the momentum to stretch away\, although they already looked likely winners after Ian Galvin’s first-half goal. \nIn the absence of injury-hit Aidan McCarthy\, Tony Kelly chipped in with 0-13\, while Cathal Malone’s goal finished it as a contest for the 14\,320 fans at Semple Stadium. \nIt means for the third time in four years\, Brian Lohan’s men have eliminated a team managed by his former teammate turned managerial adversary Davy Fitzgerald as Waterford fell to a sixth Championship loss in a row. \nTheir attack hasn’t scored a goal in their last five games across League and Championship. Up against a Clare defence that had shipped seven in their last two games\, they hardly threatened one. \nThat isn’t their only problem. Cunningham sent one wide when half-hooked by Oisín Clune and would later force a save from Aaron Shanahan from a close-range free. \nIn the 13th minute\, Mullins picked up the ball on the sideline and his dummy handpass opened up the space. He would give Shanahan no chance\, stitching the sliotar to the roof of the net. \nThat made it 1-7 to 0-5 although Clare stayed in touch through the free-taking of Keith Smyth (0-11). \nThey also required the rescue work of corner-back Ian MacNamara\, who made the first of three goal-saving interventions to deny Walsh after Shanahan had blocked Ben O’Connor’s initial effort. \nCunningham’s 65 moved them six clear\, 1-11 to 0-8\, but crucially Clare would land the two final points of the half\, from Seán Rynne and Oisín O’Donnell. \nThey continued that scoring streak into the third quarter\, blitzing the stunned Rebels for 1-8\, with only 0-3 in reply. \nMidfielder O’Donnell took his contribution to 0-3 and Smyth kept totting up the frees\, while half-time sub Keelan Hartigan added another point. \nWhen their first sight of goal arrived\, Clare were clinical. It sets up a rematch with Cork\, who the Kingdom were second best to last week. \nLimerick would finish with 13 men. Despite have led 1-1 to 0-1 after 21 minutes when Padraic Murphy found the net\, John Ryan’s youngsters played second fiddle for remainder of the contest\, as Kerry clicked into gear. \nThere were telling contributions from Paddy Lane and Dara Hogan\, the former kicking seven points before being replaced as a precaution in the final quarter. There was also a find contribution from sub Stephen Gannon – who chipped in with five points. \nLimerick lost captain Aidan O’Shea to a second yellow card on 38 minutes\, but they were already eight behind\, as the contest slipped away either side of the interval. The second Limerick red card\, shown to sub Rory Mullins\, was for an alleged ill-judged comment to referee James Regan. \nThis contest was opened up with a Limerick score after sixty-seconds\, with goalkeeper Sam Guerin nailing a superb ’45 after Limerick kicked long from the throw-in. Limerick failed to build on this\, with Guerin just off target with a second effort on 11 minutes. \nKerry were wasteful early on\, struggling with the damp and fast Limerick surface. The mist just prior to throw-in failed to help either team in the early exchanges\, with plenty of spills making for scrappy fare. \nDara Hogan opened the Kerry tally on 19 minutes but the Treaty replied with what they hoped would be a huge score. Adam Murphy’s delivery was collected by Padraic Murphy\, who spun and drilled low beyond Hoare in the Kerry goal. \nBut any enthusiasm that was given to Limerick by that score was quickly removed when the visitors replied with two quick-fire points. Paddy Lane kicked both\, as Wayne Quillinan’s men finally showed their class. \nIndeed\, they would kick the final five points of the half\, to lead 0-6 to 1-1\, with Darragh O’Keeffe and another Lane double closing the half. \nThere was little front-foot football from the home side in the early stages of the second-half\, as the winners asserted their dominance. A run of eight points over the next 19 minutes put the result beyond any reasonable doubt. \nO’Shea’s red card\, for a foul on Daniel Kirby\, saw him dismissed. His first yellow came after seven minutes. \nFrom here\, Kerry strolled to victory\, with Gannon catching the eye with some nice points. He took some simple points as Kerry didn’t hunt a goal. They came close when Ronan Carroll hit the crossbar but found the green flag right before the end. \nDara Hogan cut in from the left-corner before finishing low\, right-footed to add to his growing tally. A final score from Gannon\, his first from distance\, sealed a 17-point margin. \nLimerick eventually found their third score with a rare attack\, as substitute Eoghan Beston clipped over with a tidy effort. DESCRIPTION:Cork defeated Tipperary by 5-9 to 1-11 in the Electric Ireland Minor Football Semi Final on Thursday May 18th at FBD Semple Stadium Thurles. \n\nCork cruise past Tipperary and into Munster decider despite slow start  \nCork 5-9 Tipperary 1-11  \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nCork took an age to get going. Cork took an age to break Tipperary. Cork\, in the end\, comfortably took the spoils. \nWhen Cork return to the training field to begin Munster minor final preparations ahead of their June 2 assignment away to Kerry\, you can be certain the Cork management won’t allow their 10-point semi-final winning margin to overshadow what was a terribly average display for the opening 45 minutes. \nBy this juncture in Thursday’s semi-final\, the Cork minor footballers led 2-5 to 0-8. They could have had a third goal entering the final quarter\, ‘keeper Peter Boland denying Sean Coakley. By the same token\, Tipperary could have been level. Billy Tierney’s free came back off the crossbar. Sean Lewis took the wrong option inside the Cork 20-metre line when there were two players unmarked to his left. \nNo one was fully sure which way this semi-final would go. Cork were playing only in patches. Small patches\, at that. Tipperary\, while ahead only once\, were consistent in at all times maintaining close reach. \nAnd then\, on 48 minutes\, the gates opened. Cork charged through. 2-3 in five minutes. Add in the 1-1 from earlier in the half and Cork had now registered 3-4 without reply. From one behind to 12 in front. \nDenis O’Mullane finished goal number three after a lovely incisive ball by Gearoid Daly. Coakley followed with his second. His first\, on 32 minutes\, after Shane Ryan nudged Tipp in front for the first time\, was among the game’s most important scores. The green flag set was completed by Dara Sheedy. \nThe same as their closing act\, Cork couldn’t have asked for a better start. 1-1 to 0-0 they led inside three and a half minutes. The opening white flag was supplied by Gary Holland. The opening green flag resulted from the ensuing restart – kicked short – landing into red hands. O’Mullane supplied the finish. \nThis smart opening didn’t serve Cork well in the long run. We’re not sure if it was a case of Ray O’Mahony’s young charges expecting all their scores – and the result – to fall into their lap as handily as the goal had. But the pace and intensity of their endeavours stalled. They didn’t score again for another 16 minutes. \nTipp were unperturbed by falling four behind early doors. Shane Ryan kicked their opening point on five minutes. It might have been a goal. \nThree frees from Liam Freaney and Billy Tierney had the hosts level on the quarter hour. Tierney’s dead-ball kicking was impressively smooth. Add in Ronan O’Brien’s converted placed ball later in the half and Tipp’s interval scoresheet showed three different free-takers. \nMidfielder Lewis attempted to shove them in front. His effort fell short. Cork were back moving on the scoreboard a few minutes later. Sheedy and Coakley swung over frees. Holland made it a snappy three-in-a-row with his second from play. \nAgain\, Tipp responded. O’Brien (free)\, Ryan\, and a superb outside of the right by Michael Connellan left matters deadlocked 1-4 to 0-7 at the break. DESCRIPTION:Clare defeated Kilkenny by 0-23 to 0-15 in the Electric Ireland GAA Hurling All-Ireland Minor Championship Semi-Final on Saturday May 20th at FBD Semple Stadium Thurles. \n\n\nREPORT: @GaaClare defeated @KilkennyCLG in the Electric Ireland MHC at FBD Semple Stadium #GAA \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) May 20\, 2023 \n  \nRuthless Clare roast Cats and march on to first minor final in 13 years \nAll-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship semi-final: Clare 0-23 Kilkenny 0-15  \nReport by Stephen Barry for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nClare advanced to a first All-Ireland final since 2010 as they picked apart a Kilkenny side reduced to 14 players for the final 52 minutes. \nThe Munster champions won the second half by 0-12 to 0-5 as their opponents\, despite going 50 minutes before hitting their first wide\, couldn’t match Clare’s volume of shots. \nThe final will be back at Semple Stadium on Sunday fortnight as a curtain-raiser to the Cork-Offaly U20 decider. \nThe game was defined by that red card for full-forward Ed McDermott in the eighth minute. \nKilkenny had a couple of similar challenges highlighted following their Leinster final win over Galway and while there was mitigation here in Eoin Gunning dipping to shake off a challenge\, the shoulder-to-head contact was clear to make up Kevin Jordan’s mind. \nBy that stage\, Kilkenny were 0-3 to 0-2 ahead thanks to three points on the trot from Conor Doyle (free)\, Ed’s brother Bill McDermott\, and Ciallín Brennan\, after a brave Mícheál Ahern block. \nEven when Clare levelled\, they battled back to lead by two through a brace from Doyle and Greg Kelly\, who fist-pumped to energise the Cats among the crowd. \nBut Clare were robbing the sliotar in the middle third and turning it into points. Ronan Kilroy was all over the park\, assisting six Banner points and scoring his first of two after a Matthew O’Halloran turnover. \nFurther scores from Jack Mescal\, Evan Price\, Seán Arthur\, and James Hegarty\, after a stylish interception\, moved them two ahead. \nClare captain Gunning manned the free role and although Kilkenny worked the wings\, he was central in back-to-back points. He clipped the first after intercepting the sliotar and charging forward before providing the second for Mescal. \nKilkenny\, however\, did not miss once they got their shot off. They didn’t hit a wide all half and narrowed the gap to one at the break with a Brennan point and a Doyle free. \nThat left it 0-11 to 0-10 and Kilkenny moved into the lead on the restart. They survived a scare from the throw-in as Mark O’Brien couldn’t apply the finish when supplied by Mescal\, who exited injured soon after. At the other end\, Doyle and Kelly split the posts. \nMore fine defensive work from Gunning set up a 39th-minute goal chance for Ógie Fanning but Billy O’Sullivan made the save. They closed it out with a goal from substitute Harry Holmes. \nThe first half was nip and tuck\, with more wides than scores in the first quarter. \nPoints from Barry Walsh\, Jayden Casey\, Finn O’Brien\, and O’Flynn had Cork a point ahead after 16 minutes\, but Galway outscored them by 2-5 to 0-1 from there to the break. \nStar man Niland started with two wides from placed balls but he demonstrated impressive resolve to settle himself thereafter. His third pointed free brought them level. \nGalway kept patient with their short-passing game and they began to work goal chances from the space created. Niland\, with a shortened grip\, got a shot off in a phone box\, but Fionn Murphy was equal to it. \nThen\, Jason Rabbitte drifted inside and after initially falling to the ground\, he found his feet to collect Seán Murphy’s delivery and produce a dizzying turn to allow the finish. \nAnd after a Ben Walsh pointed response\, Niland picked up on a loose ball\, stepped away from two pursuers\, and rifled a bullet to the far corner. \nA Conor Gilligan effort\, tiptoeing along the sideline\, and two more Niland frees padded their half-time lead out to nine\, 2-8 to 0-5. \nKieran ‘Fraggy’ Murphy brought on Seán O’Callaghan and Conor McCarthy (Glen Rovers) at the break and they made an impact. The latter was involved in the breakthrough goal in the 39th minute. \nHe fed Barry Walsh who charged through two tacklers before offloading to O’Brien. His initial shot was blocked on the line by Thomas Blake but O’Flynn followed in to finish. \nCasey opened up Galway with a show of pace but Murray saved\, although it was called back for a free. Outside of that they put Carlow on lockdown\, with the full back line of Seán O’Dea\, Mike Donovan and in particular Brian Fanning\, all very impressive. \nLimerick did take their time getting into the game\, conceding the first two points before Jim Liston got them off the mark from close range in the 6th minute. Carlow\, unsurprisingly after their late smash and grab win over Wicklow\, were in high spirits and a wonderful move off the throw in that resulted in Jordan Morrissey splitting the posts from the right wing\, suggested that they were ready and fired up to build on that excellent victory in Aughrim. \nHowever once Liston got Limerick off the mark\, for the next 20 minutes they dominated the game\, controlling possession and enabling James Naughton and Brian Donovan to kick the scores that put them in complete control. \nCarlow’s resurgence before half-time\, featuring some excellent points from Ross Dunphy and Conor Crowley among others\, hinted at a tight contest from then on. However Limerick used the break well\, introducing some steady hands in the form of Iain Corbett and Hugh Bourke\, with Bourke playing a key role in Paul Maher’s goal that opened the scoring in the second half. \nThere was a subtle change in emphasis from direct kicking to direct running with the ball\, as seen for the Adare man’s goal\, and by the time Carlow scored again with 47 minutes gone\, Limerick had tacked on five in a row to push the lead out to eight and make certain of their second consecutive win. \nPeter Nash filled his boots with four second half points\, adding the finishing touch to a number of slick passing moves from Mark Fitzgerald’s side\, but it was on the defensive side that Limerick were utterly dominant\, aided by some fine catches at midfield from players like Cathal Downes and Colm McSweeney to keep the Treaty men on the front foot. \nCarlow added just two points to their half-time tally before the last five minutes\, where both sides lost their shape. They took the lead through Ryan O’Donoghue in the fourth minute and\, bar a three-minute period midway through the first half when the score was 0-3 apiece\, Mayo led all the way. \nContenders for the man of the match gong was\, for a long time\, a toss-up between the two goalkeepers. Shane Ryan and Colm Reape made about eight super saves between them – Ryan the busier of the pair – but it would be hard to look beyond Matthew Ruane as far as a tour de force performance went. \nThe midfielder had help aplenty – not least from his Breaffy club mate Aidan O’Shea – but Ruane bished and boshed his way through a huge amount of work and clipped over two points for good measure. \nKerry got nothing like that from their engine room\, and that\, ultimately\, is where and how they lost this game\, even though Paudie Clifford heroically carried the fight for the Kingdom. \nRuane\, Diarmuid O’Connor\, Conor Loftus et al were afforded too many holes to slip through in the Kerry middle diamond\, and but for Ryan’s brilliance in goal Kerry might have been on the end of a double-digit defeat. \nMayo’s intent was obvious from as early as the second minute when O’Donoghue took a quick free into Diarmuid O’Connor who\, in turn\, slammed a shot at goal that Ryan did well to push away. But the message was clear: Mayo were here to play front-foot football and were going to take this game to Kerry\, come what may. \nWhat came was two more wicked shots on Ryan\, both from James Carr – one in the fourth minute and the next at the very end of the first half – that the goalkeeper\, again\, did brilliantly to stop. In between that\, Mayo played the better of the football\, and took a deserved five-point\, 0-12 to 0-7\, lead to the interval. \nEven if he missed those two goal chances\, Carr finished the first half with three points from play\, same as O’Donoghue\, who also converted a free\, while O’Shea converted two frees and a mark. That was 0-10 from the Mayo full forward in the first 37 minutes\, and Kerry thankful it wasn’t a lot more. \nAs for Kerry’s side of the ledger\, they got points from play from Dara Moynihan\, Paul Geaney\, David Clifford and Tom O’Sullivan\, but the attacking menace so evident in the Munster final was evidently lacking. \nClifford’s point in the 12th minute made it 0-3 apiece\, but when Padraig O’Hora fisted Mayo back in front the Connacht men were never behind again. \nRuane’s point two minutes after the restart set the tone again\, and while Mayo briefly regressed and played a little too deep for a spell in the second half\, Kerry failed to capitalise. \nNevertheless\, the home side had their chances. If Ryan was the busier keeper in the first period\, Reape had plenty to do in the second\, twice making reflex saves to deny David Clifford and Kerry the goal they desperately needed. When they added a trio of points\, their advantage was never going to be overhauled\, especially with Cliona O’Leary converting from placed balls. \nTheir supremacy never allowed Kerry to eat into their lead\, as the Rebels ensured a steady flow of white flags throughout. \nScores were rare at the other end\, despite the hard-working Patrice Diggin and Jackie Horgan. \nA late goal from Lucy Allen’s added gloss to Cork’s commanding victory.
