DESCRIPTION:Midleton CBS defeated St. Flannans Ennis by 5-16 to 1-8 in the 2022/2023 TUS Corn Aodh Uí Dhúda (Under 15 A Hurling) Final on Thursday March 2nd at Kilmallock. \n\n2022/2023 TUS Corn Aodh Uí Dhúda (Under 15 A Hurling) Final  \nMidleton CBS 5-16 St. Flannans 1-8 \nReport by Ed Donnelly \n\nCaptains Grahem Ball (St. Flannans) and Senan Carroll (Midleton) with referee John O’Halloran \nFitzgerald Park Kilmallock was the venue for the TUS sponsored Munster GAA Post Primary Schools Corn Aodh Uí Dhúda (Under 15 A Hurling) Final on Thursday afternoon.  \nThere was a hint of spring in the air as a fine crowd descended on the Limerick venue for a meeting of two of the strongest Munster hurling nurseries.  \nThe opening ten minutes did not give any hints to the ultimate one-sided nature of this encounter as both teams tore in to the fray from the start. Dara Kennedy opened the scoring for St. Flannans with a point from play before Midleton responded with points from play by Sam Ring (2) and Darragh Heavin. When Luke Vaughan scored a point in the 10th minute\, Midleton’s lead was 0-3 to 0-2.  \nDespite playing against the breeze in the opening half\, Midleton upped the intensity at this point\, suffocating any St. Flannans player in possession with an exhibition of hooking\, blocking and tackling to win back possession time and time again. From one such turnover\, Midleton’s Cormac Deane raced through on goal and rattled the net in the 11th minute to begin a 20 minute period of absolute dominance for the Cork school. \nBy the 20th minute\, the lead was out to 1-7 to 0-4 with Midleton’s Dean Murphy scoring three points on the trot. Further Midleton goals from Deane and Murphy stretched the lead out to 3-8 to 0-4 after 23 minutes before the same two players finished the first half scoring with a goal (Murphy) and a point (Deane) just before the interval to leave the half-time score 4-8 to 0-4. The scoring burst of 4-5 to 0-2 in the final 20 minutes of the first half had all but ended this game as a contest.  \nTo the credit of St. Flannans\, they made a good start to the second half as points by Rory Ralph and Eoin Hegarty were followed by an Eoin O’Connor goal to reduce the deficit. Normal service would resume soon afterwards with a Cormac Deane pointed free was followed by an excellently taken goal by Dean Murphy in the 34th minute and that put paid to any thoughts of a St. Flannans comeback.  \nThe Clare school would only score two further points in the game\, both from frees by Dara Kennedy as both sides introduced a number of subs. A native of Sixmilebridge\, Fr Hugh lived for hurling and trained many successful Flannans teams during his time at the famed hurling nursery. His attention to detail was second to none and he was noted for his ability to identify talent at an early age. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday last Cork GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee held its first conference in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Diarmuid Lester of the County Health & Wellbeing Committee\, of UCC and Bishopstown\, acted as Chairperson.  \nThe event was opened jointly by the Chairperson of Cork GAA Health&Wellbeing Committee Eoghan O’Connor and National Chairperson Janas Harrington (St.Finbarrs).  \nBrid O’Dwyer Croke Park\, Valerie Kirby Blarney Healthy Club\, Claire Harrington St.Finbarrs Healthy Club\, and Irene Murphy Bandon Healthy Club took part in a panel discussion. They shared inspiring stories of the activities of their club’s Healthy Club. Claire spoke as a founding club in 2013\, Valerie on interaction with the local community and Irene outlined the Dermott Earley Leadership Programme. The discussion provided an opportunity for all present to learn about the activities of Healthy Clubs. \nProfessor Louise Crowley\, UCC and Bishopstown Healthy Club\, outlined the Bystander Intervention Programme. She explained the rationale behind the programme and how it empowers participants to better understand their role as pro-social bystanders.  \nOur third presentation was on the topic  ‘GAA for All’. Diarmuid Lester hosted a discussion between Alan Craughwell of Mixed Ability Sports Ireland\, Mairead Beausang of Midleton All Stars\, Gerry McNamara Munster Wheelchair Hurling and Clonakilty’s Sinead Crowley on how to create a more inclusive and accessible environment sporting environment for people with additional needs as well as for mixed ability participants.  \nKeith Ricken held an engaging one-on-one conversation with former Cork camogie player and professional soccer player Clare Shine. In the conversation\, they discussed Clare’s career\, from training/playing with fourteen different teams from Soccer to Camogie and Ladies Football. Clare outlined the challenges of having to choose between her sports and events from attending Irish soccer camp and getting permission to leave an international camp to play in an All-Ireland Senior Camogie final all in the same weekend.  She further outlined her journey into professional soccer\, and the impact it had on her life. She told how alcohol and substance misuse affected her playing career and her personal life. In an insightful conversation\, Clare shared how she successfully navigated difficult times and how she reached her own personal goals. \nCork Chairman Marc Sheehan brought the event to a close as he recognised the success of the event. DESCRIPTION:St. Kieran’s Kilkenny defeated Cashel Community School by 3-13 to 2-9 in the Masita All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Croke Cup (Under 19 A Hurling) Semi-Final on Saturday March 4th at St. Brendan’s Park Birr. \n\n\nCashel's fairytale year comes to an end as Kieran's march on https://t.co/VKZJyO7oY9 \n— Irish Examiner Sport (@ExaminerSport) March 4\, 2023 \n  \nCashel’s fairytale year comes to an end as Kieran’s march on \nMasita All-Ireland Schools Croke Cup semi-final  \nSt. Kieran’s College\, Kilkenny 3-13 Cashel Community School 2-9  \nReport by Kevin Egan for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nA remarkable year for first-time Harty Cup champions Cashel Community School came to an end this afternoon at St. Brendan’s Park in Birr\, as they ran into a St. Kieran’s side that was more effective than devastating\, but still strong enough to secure their passage through to an eighth-successive Croke Cup final. \nBoth sides welcomed back key attackers from their provincial finals\, and while Cashel’s Bobby Power was hugely effective\, scoring 1-3 from play for the Tipperary school\, it was Kilkenny U-20 panellist Harry Shine of St. Kieran’s who really turned the tide\, pouncing for a crucial goal just before half-time and then carrying his side over the line with a string of late frees\, several of which he earned himself. \nCashel certainly gave themselves the platform from which to build\, as they exploded out of the blocks. Power teamed up with Ronan Connolly close to the St. Kieran’s goal to plunder an early 1-4 for the Tipperary school\, the goal coming from a trademark high catch from Connolly on the edge of the square that enabled him to nab the first goal of the game after eight minutes. When the two attackers followed up with good points from play in the six minutes that followed\, Cashel were six points in front against a St. Kieran’s side that looked all at sea. \nIn the blink of an eye\, the lead was almost completely eradicated however\, as Pádraig Naddy and Ted Dunne fired points either side of a gorgeous instinctive one-handed flick from Donagh Murphy for the opening St. Kieran’s goal. \nBy the 20 minute mark\, the famous Kilkenny school were in front\, as they took advantage of a huge stroke of luck. A shot from Murphy from a very tight angle crashed back into play off the upright\, and Dunne pounced to seize the rebound and whip it to the net. \nCashel rallied to level the game at 2-3 to 1-6\, but to only be level after having much the better of the first 25 minutes would have felt like an injustice\, and St. Kieran’s didn’t waste any time in piling on the pain\, adding another 1-3 before the break. DESCRIPTION:Presentation Athenry defeated Thurles CBS by 0-15 to 0-14 in the Masita All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Croke Cup (Under 19 A Hurling) Semi-Final on Saturday March 4th at St. Brendan’s Park Birr. \n\n\nHeartbreak for Thurles as Athenry clinch Croke classic by a point https://t.co/fVV5NPaPiX \n— Irish Examiner Sport (@ExaminerSport) March 4\, 2023 \n  \nHeartbreak for Thurles as Athenry clinch Croke classic by a point \nMasita All-Ireland Schools Croke Cup semi-final  \nPresentation College\, Athenry 0-15 Thurles CBS 0-14  \nReport by Kevin Egan for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nPresentation College Athenry will get the chance to finally lift the Croke Cup and make up for final defeats in 1976\, 2018 and 2019 on St. Patrick’s Day\, after they condemned Thurles CBS to a second-consecutive heart-breaking one-point defeat at St. Brendan’s Park in Birr this afternoon. \nA series of second-half frees from Aaron Niland were enough to give the Galway school a minimum-margin victory\, but the real star of the show was midfielder and team captain Tiernán Leen\, whose four points from play provided an oasis of attacking flair on an otherwise barren afternoon for scoring forwards. \nThis contest between the Connacht champions and the Harty Cup finalists was predicted to be incredibly tight and at no stage in the tie could the winner be called with confidence\, as with the exception of a 60-second window in the first half when Presentation College led by 0-7 to 0-4\, there was never more than a couple of points between the sides. \nBoth sides were very strong defensively\, aided by the presence of a sweeper at either end of the field. Cian Donoghue lined out at corner forward for Presentation College when Johnny Murphy threw the ball in\, but he dropped back to play as an extra defender\, leaving Liam Doyle to step up to the centre back slot and allow Jim Ryan to play a free role at the other end. As a result\, neither team was able to gain a lot of traction up front\, particularly in the opening ten minutes\, after which the score was tied at a single point each. \nThurles CBS in particular were very strong at the back\, conceding just two points from play to Athenry forwards during the tie\, but Cathal Moore’s men had a trump card in the form of team captain Leen\, who was the team’s only scorer from play in the second half. \nThere was a bit more of a threat at the other end\, where four starting forwards as well as the midfield duo of James Doyle and Tommy Maher all found the target from play in the first half\, and the Tipperary school also had the better of things in the opening five minutes of the second half\, when a run of points from Maher\, Joe Egan and Robbie Ryan gave them their only lead of the game. \nExcellent defensive displays from Aaron McDonagh and Seán Murphy ensured that Presentation College stayed well in touch during this phase\, and gradually they worked their way back into the ascendancy\, largely on the back of Aaron Niland’s freetaking. \nLeen continued to offer a touch of class in the middle third and he struck an inspirational score in the 52nd minute\, hot on the heels of a similarly fantastic score from Liam Doyle at the other end. \nAnd in general\, that was how it went – Thurles CBS coming up with a point\, followed by Presentation finding a way to edge themselves back into the lead by the bare minimum. Kerry failed to score for the final 20 minutes of the game. \nKerry’s late changes\, Pa Warren and Tony Brosnan for Barry Dan O’Sullivan and Adrian Spillane\, suggested they were going with a more mobile approach. The several minutes of recycling that preceded Brosnan’s second point in the 31st minute would have supported that theory. \nTyrone registered a bizarre one in the 14th minute when Shane Ryan was guilty of swinging the ball into his own net in the 14th minute as he was pressurised by Brian Kennedy. DESCRIPTION:Fermanagh defeated Tipperary by 2-11 to 0-8 in the Allianz Football League Division 3 on Sunday March 5th at St. Josephs Park\, Ederney. \n\nFermanagh’s promotion hunt continues after nine point win over Tipperary \nFermanagh 2-11 Tipperary 0-08  \nReport by Ciaran Flaherty for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nFermanagh kept their promotion push going with a nine point win over Tipperary in Ederney on Sunday. \nIt was a far from pretty spectacle for those in attendance\, but Fermanagh made the most of a Jack Kennedy black card after 20 minutes to increase a three-point lead into nine-point half time advantage and from there they never looked like being caught. \nFor Fermanagh manager\, Kieran Donnelly\, he was pleased with certain aspects of play from his side as well as individual performances. \n“I suppose the game people felt was over at half-time. We felt they were still going to cause us loads of problems because they are a very physically big team. \n“[I’m] pleased with aspects. I thought in the first half we had some great scores\, individual scores. I thought that Shane McGullion was excellent in his play in the first half\, “ Donnelly said after the game. \n“We felt the second half the game died a wee bit for periods. You know it was just a matter of us keeping the scoreboard ticking. \n“I’m pleased with aspects. I thought some individual performances were excellent. Lee Cullen led the line superbly Josh [Largo-Elis]\, I mentioned Shane McGullion. \n“Our bench made a bit of an impact again to give us a wee bit of energy when we needed it. \n“I thought we were defensively really sound just a couple of mistakes we were frustrated with. We felt at times we were allowing them a run on us when they probably shouldn’t have been. \n“That was just our errors. But that is something we can tidy up massively.”  \nFermanagh were wasteful\, especially in the first half as they kicked nine wides. \nA Sean Quigley mark opened the scoring before Kevin Fahey ventured up from centre-back to get Tipp’s first score\, However\, a fine Tommy McCaffrey strike restored Fermanagh’s lead. \nWith nine minutes played good work from Ryan Jones and Conor McGee put Ultan Kelm through on goal and although his shot was well saved\, Quigley was nearby to volley to the roof of the net\, 1-02 to 0-01. \nKennedy responded for Tipp but his next major involvement saw him black carded for a block on Brandon Horan. \nAidan Breen then pointed and a few minutes later he found the net. \nA good turnover from McGullion set Fermanagh on their way with Breen\, McCaffrey and Quigley all involved before Breen fired to the net\, 2-03 to 0-02. \nFurther scores from Largo-Elis\, McGullion and an outrageous score from Lee Cullen added to Fermanagh’s tally over the closing stages of the half. While Cillian Brennan\, who did a fine job marking Brian Hurley throughout\, broke a high ball in from Eoghan McSweeney targeted for the Cork full forward\, he couldn’t quite grasp it. Power duly poached\, rounded a man and then with the outside of his boot kicked to the net. \nWithin five minutes though it was cancelled out. Not for the first or last time Clare broke through the heart of the Cork defence and when Ciaran Russell fisted a ball over Daniel O’Mahony for Keelan Sexton to run onto\, the Cork fullback took down the Kilmurry Ibrickane man\, resulting in both a black card and a penalty which Sexton duly dispatched to the net. \nThat was pretty much the pattern for the rest of the half; anytime one went ahead it was invariably cancelled out. While Cork were finding it slightly easier to win scoreable frees converted by Hurley\, the impressive Darragh Bohannan and Eoin Cleary stormed through the centre to kick a couple of points and at the half it was the home side who had their noses in front\, 1-4 to 1-3. \nTwo minutes into the second half Brian Hurley had a penalty brilliantly saved by Stephen Ryan but if anything it ignited rather than deflated Cork; within five minutes the visitors had rattled off 1-2 without reply through points from McSweeney and Conor Corbett and then a goal from the impressive Mattie Taylor to put them 2-5 to 1-4 ahead. \nEoin Cleary showed some leadership to kick a couple of points from play for Clare but Ruairi Deane then responded by breaking through to kick a point and then brilliantly pull down a kickout to trigger a move which finished with a McSweeney point. Lenihan landed a long-range effort onto the crossbar\, Harry Hogan pulled one 45 wide\, Jack Flynn took a 45-metre free short which Jordan Morris saw blocked\, and Flynn’s final 45 drifted well wide. \nLimerick’s defending was tenacious as they attacked Meath’s supply lines from the front. Seven times they turned over possession in the full-back line\, with five of those counter-attacks resulting in points. \nBrian Fanning was turning in a totemic performance man-marking Meath dangerman Shane Walsh\, who was hooked at half-time. He produced three of those turnovers\, which translated into two points for James Naughton. \nThe one time he was caught out by a high ball over his head on the half-hour\, he was bailed out by goalkeeper Donal O’Sullivan standing tall as Walsh shot under pressure. \nColm McSweeney also produced two big turnovers\, the latter a crucial interception as Donal Keogan sought out Cillian O’Sullivan’s run in behind. Both were converted into points for Cian Sheehan and Cathal Downes. \nLimerick kicked five in a row to begin the second quarter\, with Donovan winning three frees for Naughton to score. \nThey led by four and although Meath responded with two flowing counter-attacks after Walsh’s goal chance for Flynn and Morris to land points\, Limerick cancelled them out through Cillian Fahy and that final Downes point. 0-10 to 0-6 at half-time. \nColm O’Rourke made three changes at the break\, Walsh joined in exiting by Daniel O’Neill and Jason Scully\, but Meath were no more accurate\, kicking three wides on the resumption. \nIt took until the 44th minute for those changes to take effect\, and for the first score of the half to arrive. When it did\, it was a big one. \nDiarmuid Moriarty beat Fanning out to the ball\, Morris’s run cut Limerick open\, and he squared for Costello to tap home. Costello and Morris added quickfire points\, Meath were ahead. \nThey had 13 wides\, though\, as a first-touch point for Adrian Enright and Naughton’s sixth edged Limerick two up. DESCRIPTION:St. Patricks Castleisland defeated O’Carolan College Nobber by 2-8 to 0-11 in the Masita All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Final\, Dr. Eamonn O’Sullivan Senior C Football on Saturday 11th of March at Netwatch Cullen Park Carlow. \n\n\nTwo goals from super sub John O’Connor helps St Patrick’s Castleisland make history with All-Ireland title https://t.co/XdHznQOgP9 \n— The Kerryman (@kerryman_ie) March 11\, 2023 \n  \nSuper sub John O’Connor scores two second half goals to help St Patrick’s Castleisland win All-Ireland title \nALL-IRELAND POST-PRIMARY SCHOOLS SFC ‘C’ FINAL \nSt Patrick’s Castleisland 2-8 Carolan College\, Nobber (Meath) 0-11 \nReport by Dan Kearney for the Kerryman newspaper \nThe St Patrick’s Castleisland crest reads Mórtas is Dochas\, which translates as Pride and Hope\, traits that their wonderful band of footballers displayed in abundance when they captured the All-Ireland Post-Primary C title for the first time in their history\, with a display for the ages at Dr Cullen Park\, Carlow last Saturday. \nSuper substitute John O’Connor was once again the hero for St Patrick’s as he struck for two second half goals that went a long way towards ensuring that his side would claim the cup\, but in truth St Pat’s held most of the aces throughout the field despite the star studded make up of the O’Carolan side that had hammered every other team on their way to the final. \nSt Pat’s had heroes all over the pitch and none more so than goalkeeper Conor Wilkinson who produced two brilliant first half saves when his side were struggling to keep themselves in the contest. Indeed\, there is no doubt that the winners ability to keep an O’Carolan side that had scored twenty two goals on their way to the final completely goal less was a testament to St Pat’s defensive brilliance when the pressure was on. \nAfter a nervous opening period for both sides O’Carolan College went into a 0-2 to no score lead thanks to points from Adam Matthews and Declan Reilly before joint captain Cathal McElligott opened St Pat’s account in the eight minute. \nBoth sides were guilty of some poor turnovers\, with St Pat’s the bigger sinners\, and Wilkinson produced his first great save of the game after Ben Reilly was put through and looked certain to score. \nO’Carolan midfielder Rian McConnell slotted over a free in the fourteenth minute to push his side 0-3 to 0-1 ahead and with the Meath side ravenous on the breaks St Pat’s were really gasping for air and needed to get their hands on some quality possession. \nDriven on by the powerful Cathal Brosnan at midfield and with the McElligott twins Jack and Cathal trying their damnedest\, St Pat’s started to claw their way back into the game. Cathal McElligott scored a fine individual point and then Jack O’Donoghue slotted a free after a foul on the marauding Ruarí Bourke\, and suddenly the sides were level. \nO’Carolan are a quality side and gathered themselves once more. St Pat’s began to struggle on their own restarts and after a fine drive from Killian Smyth\, the excellent Rian Stafford pointed. Adam Matthews\, a very dangerous corner forward\, chipped over another\, and then Daragh Kelly reacted fastest when a shot for a point came off the post and he chipped in with a score. \nThe Leinster champions were rampant now\, and worse could have followed on the stroke of half time when Kelly was put through by Stafford\, but Wilkinson came to the rescue with his feet this time\, to save his side once more. The half time whistle sounded shortly afterwards\, and St Pat’s were thankful to go to the dressing room just 0-6 to 0-3 down. \nSt Pat’s looked a reinvigorated side after the half time break and came out with a renewed energy and belief. The inspirational Cathal Brosnan got them off the mark within seconds of the throw in and this was followed by a smashing score from Eoghan Shire who was a bundle of energy for the winners. \nO’Carolan College struck back when full back Sean Hare popped up in attack to score a nice point\, but straight afterwards came a huge turning point for the winners. With Evan Brennan\, Ruairí Bourke and Ruairi Brosnan excelling in defence\, St Pat’s launched an attack following a turnover but as Jack O’Donoghue’s shot for a point fell short\, John O’Connor showed excellent control to flick the ball to the back of Aron Monaghan’s net. \nThe St Pat’s supporters were on their feet but the end to end nature of the game was relentless\, and Ben Reilly responded for O’Carolan to level the affair again in the forty first minute. St Pat’s gathered themselves once more and struck two on the bounce from Jack O’Donoghue frees\, although Stafford replied with a free for the Meath side. \nThe nature of the game began to change again and O’Carolan sub Conor Owens fluffed a great goal chance\, although the dangerous Stafford made no mistake afterwards when he popped over a classy point to level the game. \nWith only seven minutes left and the sides level the game now came down to who was the bravest. St Pat’s hadn’t made the long journey to Carlow to come away without the title and launched the move that would essentially win them the All Ireland title. \nCathal Brosnan and Eoghan Shire played a series of mesmerizing one twos to get into the O’Carolan scoring zone and Brosnan showed brilliant vision to spot John O’Connor ghosting behind the cover\, and the substitute made no mistake from close range for his second goal of the game. \nFrom the kick-out another sub\, Cathal Sheehan\, pointed to push St Pat’s four ahead and with the game heading into overtime St Pat’s now had one hand on the title. Waterford didn’t\, and that would prove to be the difference. \nWaterford made a number of changes from the one named in the programme\, though it was largely in keeping with the team announced on Friday evening ahead of the match. \nAnd\, despite the fact that ticket sales were slow up to midday\, a large surge of spectators arrived at FBD Semple Stadium for a highly anticipated clash between two very keen rivals – one of the major highlights being outside the tramlines with Davy Fitzgerald coming up against last year’s Waterford boss Liam Cahill\, now in the Tipp camp. Tipperary legend Eoin Kelly occupied a seat in the Deise dugout\, and Waterford legend Tony Browne did likewise but in the Tipperary dugout. Srange times indeed. \nIt was a damp enough evening in Thurles after a day of rain but there was a great atmosphere in the stadium as Tipp went in search of their fourth straight win in this years campaign. However\, in the last six meetings in the league\, the sides shared the bragging rights equally – three wins apiece. So\, it was all to play for on the evening. \nIn a fast paced and at times hard hitting first half\, Tipperary\, despite loss of Seamus Callanan with a knee injury in the 20th minute\, went from being three down after four minutes\, to leading the game by six points at the half hour mark. It was a big about-turn and it all kicked off for Tipp from an 8th minute Jake Morris goal which was created by Dan McCormack. \nThat goal tied up the game and when Noel McGrath pointed almost immediately\, Tipp took control of the game. Even though they went in arrears when Callum Lyons hit a brace of scores in the 12th and 13th minutes\, Tipperary struck eight points in succession to take up a commanding position – seven of those coming from centre forward Gearoid O’Connor\, with veteran Patrick Maher getting the other. \nWaterford went twenty minutes without a score in the half and this spelled bad news for them considering they had the breeze at their backs. However\, they did manage four of the last five points through Jamie Barron (2) and Stephen Bennett (2)\, to go in 1-12 to 0-11 in arrears at the break – not a terribly bad position for them to be in considering how they had been dominated by the hosts. \nWaterford started the second half in a bright fashion with points from Jack Prendergast and Callum Lyons. But\, they also had two early goal chances which they failed to take – these would come back to haunt the Deise. \nWaterford had taken the lead by the 13th minute when they hit four points in succession through Iarlaith Daly\, Stephen Bennett (2) and Jack Prendergast\, and it was flowing over and back until Morris struck his second goal in the 20th minute – a score which sent Tipp three clear\, with sub Jason Forde having adding much danger to the Premier attack. \nIndeed\, Forde would end up with six points to show from his cameo and the story got even worse for Waterford when midfielder Jamie Barron was red carded immediately after Morris’ goal for an off the ball incident involving Tipp midfielder Conor Stakelum. \nAnother Tipp sub Conor Bowe goaled two minutes after Morris with his first touch to really blitz Waterford. The Lake County had the aid of a very strong wind in the first half\, but they seldom threatened the Limerick rearguard. \nJohn Kiely’s team dominated right from the first whistle. They had three points on the board in the opening five minutes via Diarmaid Byrnes (a monster free)\, Tom Morrissey – who replaced Gearóid Hegarty from the selected team – and Peter Casey. They led 0-4 to 0-1 when Conor Boylan found the net in the 12th minute after fine approach work by Casey. \nWithin a minute\, Noel Conaty did well to keep out a Seamus Flanagan rasper\, with Boylan firing the sliotar wide from the rebound. In Killian Doyle’s absence\, Jack Gillen was on free-taking duty for Joe Fortune’s troops\, but he only managed one successful strike from a number of scoreable placed balls in the first half. \nThe home team had the gap down to six points (1-8 to 0-5) by the 25th minute\, but the Liam MacCarthy Cup holders fired over six more points by the interval\, including two each from Morrissey and the outstanding Donnacha Ó Dálaigh\, to lead from 1-14 to 0-5 at half-time. \nOn the change of ends\, sub Niall O’Brien and Morrissey traded points from early frees. The Treaty men added three more points in the ensuing five minutes\, but they were denied a second goal when Conaty saved from skipper William O’Donoghue in the 39th minute. \nConaty again did well from a Casey shot at the expense of a ’65’ which Byrnes converted. Without having to overly exert themselves\, Limerick kept the scoreboard ticking over but they were dealt a blow just past the hour mark when Colin Coughlan was black-carded after a foul on Westmeath sub Eoin Keyes. O’Neill superbly dispatched the resultant penalty past Jamie Power. \nThis gave the home team a lift and they gave as good as they got in the closing stages. Pádraig Power flicked to the net after the break\, but his side still trailed until Jack O’Connor’s 70th-minute levelling point. \nThen a Patrick Collins free caused further goalmouth chaos\, with Séamus Harnedy kicking the ball into the path of Beausang who applied the finish. \nIt was hard to believe Wexford shipped 6-25 to Clare last week as they held Cork scoreless for the opening 20 minutes in greasy conditions at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. \nHowever\, they will be left counting the cost of injuries down the spine of their team. Conor McDonald\, Damien Reck\, Liam Óg McGovern\, and Matthew O’Hanlon all exited early\, while Diarmuid O’Keeffe limped through the final 15 minutes at full-forward after Wexford had used up their allocation of subs. \nO’Keeffe\, on his return to the starting line-up\, expertly dropped off to mop up all sorts of loose ball around his own 21. Darragh Egan also gave late starts to O’Hanlon and Lee Chin\, both back from injury\, while Kevin Foley was called on in the first half. \nO’Hanlon added a sense of calm to the full-back line while Chin (0-9) knitted everything together with his neat and tidy short passing from centre-forward. He was also a key force in Wexford winning over three-quarters of their long puck-outs (7 out of 9) in the first half. \nChin had the first two points and set up another for Simon Donohoe. Corner-forward Rory Higgins provided the first line of defence\, hooking and blocking Cork defenders for a score of his own and laying on another for Mikie Dwyer. \nDwyer had replaced McDonald\, who was hampered by a heavily strapped right leg\, but still produced a fine catch and score with his final involvement. \nIt left Wexford 0-6 to no-score ahead\, while McGovern hit the side-netting when going for goal. \nDeclan Dalton had an early piledriver saved by James Lawlor\, but his side had to wait for two Shane Kingston frees to open their account before Shane Barrett added their first from play in the 25th minute. \nCork cut the gap to two but their play remained riddled by errors and cheap turnovers as Wexford finished the stronger with a Chin free and Charlie McGuckin point off a short puck-out gone wrong. 0-10 to 0-6 at the break. \nPat Ryan resisted the urge to run the changes at half-time but with Harnedy\, O’Connor\, and Alan Cadogan all back on the bench after overcoming injuries\, they were soon to follow. \nTheir puck-out malfunctioned again on the resumption\, with Chin converting a free and intercepting another for Donohoe’s second point. \nWexford’s lead was six but it would be halved in the 45th minute. It is now about two teams and two football counties that have had the pleasure of Liam Kearns’ company during his all too-short life.”  \nIntentionally or not\, the song of choice over the Semple Stadium PA as both teams ran out within seconds of one another was rather fittingly Springsteen’s Glory Days\, an ode to the brevity of life but with its up-tempo anthemic quality one you could imagine Kearns belting out with his penchant for giving any party a song.  \nThen minutes before throw in\, both sides and management teams lined up on their respective 65s\, arms linked\, and faced one another\, in tribute to Kearns\, clapping either side of a brief eulogy and a minute’s silence. \nThe game itself was played very much in the spirit of what the eloquent O’Dwyer anticipated and Kearns would likely espouse.  \n“One can only imagine what he [Kearns] would want\,” wrote O’Dwyer in his match notes\, “but I’m guessing his wish would be for both teams to attack at every opportunity\, give it all in the pursuit of victory\, and whatever the result\, get ready to go again the next day.”  \nThat’s what we got in front of a crowd of roughly 800 in Thurles; a fine\, open game with no shortage of endeavour (while there were three yellow cards in the opening half\, it was a game without any malice; even the late black card Offaly’s Jack Bryant picked up was a dubious call from the otherwise excellent James Molloy). \nFor sure it had its sprinkling of errors as you’ll inevitably get at this level. Offaly’s game but overly-trigger-happy full forward Anton O’Sullivan had several shots drop short in the opening quarter.  \nTipperary’s Stephen Quirke fluffed a glorious scoring chance by over-carrying the ball\, making his fisted point null and void. But both players let alone teams more than compensated for such mishaps.  \nOnly minutes after his disallowed point\, Quirke had scored his third point from play for the first half alone. The relentless O’Sullivan kicked a boomer of a point for his side’s last score of the opening half. Tipp had jumped into an early 0-3 to 0-1 lead\, and while Offaly would then reel off four consecutive points with their rapid transition game particularly evident\, Tipp would stay within striking distance to leave it 0-9 to 0-7 at the half. \nThe third quarter followed in much the same vein. Offaly at the 50th minute-mark were four up but Tipp rallied: a couple of successive points from lively sub Mark Russell\, another long-range free from goalkeeper Michael O’Reilly and a couple of points from stalwart midfielder Jack Kennedy reduced the deficit to a point entering the last five minutes of normal time. \nBut then\, aptly enough\, given who Kearns was coaching only last Sunday\, there was a goal\, in fact two of them for the Offaly men. An efficient in attack\, a tireless work ethic and star players who stood up throughout. \nThe Cork school were on the back foot from the off and couldn’t handle Screeney. Additionally\, the composed and methodical nature of the Offaly school’s display meant they were worthy winners. \nThe game was little more than 120-seconds old when Screeney struck his first goal. Moments after opening the scoring\, the diminutive forward expertly intercepted a short puck-out before burying low to the net from the 20 meter line. \nAlex Kavanagh quickly added another point to push them five clear after just five minutes. They were playing with a very strong breeze behind them but they were also making use of the ball much better\, as Hamilton High School struggled to carry the ball through their opposition. \nDarragh McCarthy got Bandon on the scoreboard after nine minutes\, but they couldn’t handle the number 15 at the other end. Despite dropping an additional man back the Kilcormac Killoughey man\, a star for Offaly at U17 level last year\, proved elusive. He was also in top form from placed balls\, missing twice over the hour\, both from the side-line. \nIt was 1-10 to 0-5 at half-time with the Hammies clipping over three of the final four scores\, with Conor O’Sullivan\, Evan O’Shea (free and 65) closing the gap. However\, Screeney had the final say\, to bring his first half total to 1-8 with a free. \nThere was to be no real fight back in the third quarter\, this was when Bandon needed to come. The sides traded scores\, largely from frees\, with the gap still at 10 by the midway point of the second period. Goalkeeper Paudie Hunt made a crucial catch under his crossbar before substitute Conor Ó Cuirrín clinched victory with an injury time point at the other end. \n“We made hard work of that but when you haven’t won for a distance\, it’s difficult to get over the line\,” Fitzgerald said afterwards. “I thought we were by far and away the better team. I loved the character of the lads. It’s a confidence boost for us.” \nLiam Gallagher and Niall O’Leary gave the wind assisted Londoners an early two point lead. It took Waterford 19 minutes to get off the mark through Donal Fitzgerald. \nOn 25 minutes\, Michael Kiely brought down O’Leary for a London penalty. The Déise attacker was shown a black card. Christopher Farley sent Paudie Hunt the wrong way from spot. Conor Murray hit back straight away with a point before Darragh Corcoran fisted home a high ball from Jordan O’Sullivan. A Farley point edged the visitors 1-3 to 1-2 ahead at the break. \nSean Whelan Barrett and Jason Curry levelled matters at 1-4 apiece on the restart. The biggest roar of the night arrived on 44 minutes when Whelan Barrett rifled a shot to the top corner of the net following a move involving O’Sullivan\, Curry and Corcoran. A Brian Lynch beauty from 45 metres made it 2-5 to 1-4. \nLondon full forward James Gallagher received his marching on 53 minutes for a second bookable offence. As it is now\, a win for Kerry against Galway might be good enough – others results permitting – to send the defending champions back to the league final. \nRoscommon\, meanwhile\, remain on six points and might well need to get at least a draw and a point out of Donegal in the final round to be sure of playing Division One football next year. \nKerry\, who had Gavin White returning to action for the first time since the All-Ireland final last July\, started brilliantly and raced into a 1-2 to no score lead after six minutes\, points from Dara Moynihan and Donal O’Sullivan either side of Clifford’s goal\, brilliantly finished from Tony Brosnan’s sublime pass. \nO’Sullivan’s second point put Kerry six ahead after 10 minutes and one feared for Roscommon at that stage\, before former Kerry footballer Conor Cox converted a 20-metre free to get Roscommon off the mark in the 12th minute. \nKerry\, at that stage\, were doing all the best running\, passing and shooting\, as evidenced by their fourth point started by White\, set up by Donal O’Sullivan and finished off by Brosnan. \nDiarmuid Murtagh converted a Roscommon free\, but the attacks from the visitors were too infrequent and too incisive\, as Brosnan and Sean O’Shea (free) extended Kerry’s lead to 1-6 to 0-2 by the 27th minute. \nBut just as it seemed the hosts were having it all their own way\, Roscommon hit them for three unanswered scores from the Murtagh brothers and Cox from an advanced mark to make it 1-6 to 0-5 just after the half hour mark. DESCRIPTION:Louth defeated Cork by 1-10 to 0-10 in the Allianz Football League Division 2 on Sunday March 19th at DEFY Pairc Mhuire\, Ardee. \n\nCork let victory slip through their fingers in Ardee \nLouth 1-10 Cork 0-10  \nReport by Brendan O’Brien for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nThis one will sting a bit for John Cleary and his players given they led by five points in the first-half in a game that turned with a controversial Louth goal and\, shortly after\, a straight red card for Cork full-back Daniel O’Mahony. \nSo comfortable through most of that opening period\, they managed just two scores in the second period\, one in the last half-hour of play and none from the 52nd minute onwards as a wasteful Louth finally managed to turn the screw. \nThe visitors really did have the game by the scruff of the neck with less than ten minutes to go to the break. They led 0-7 to 0-2 at the time\, Louth had been kept scoreless for almost 20 minutes and the visitors were dominating the ball and winning turnovers. \nTheir scores came from both quick bursts and from patient passages. Steven Sherlock put one over the bar after what must have been three minutes of prodding and probing and they should have had much more again to show for their efforts. \nThe top goal-scoring team across all four divisions ahead of this weekend\, they have left plenty more green flags on the floor this last few weeks and they passed up on three gilt-edged chances in the first 35 minutes of this one. \nSherlock slipped when put through on a one-on-one\, Chris Og Jones had a scuffed effort turned away for a ‘45’ and then the latter fisted a high ball goalwards and at the goalkeeper when he had time to catch\, land and pick his spot. \nThe last of those came after the half’s turning point: a soft penalty for what was deemed a Sean Powter foul on Ryan Burns. It was\, if anything\, a coming together of the two but Burns got his goal on the rebound after Micheal Martin saved his spot kick. \nCue the roar from the home crowd and a very different game. \nLouth followed that up with two points but even worse was the loss to that red card of O’Mahony who had no complaints for a clumsy but still high challenge which resulted in Conor Grimes having to leave the field for some attention. \nCork did finish the period with a point from Tommy Walsh to restore the lead at 0-8 to 1-4 but they must have been happy to make the sheds and regroup ahead of a half where they would play into the stiff wind. \nThey started the second -half positively enough with a Sherlock point from a free and Louth’s Donal McKenny being shown a black card\, but not for the first time this season they were failing to make the most of their chances. \nRuairi Deane was a constant thorn in Louth’s side but his fisted goal attempt on the run failed to make it past the goalkeeper after 48 minutes. A fourth chance at a goal gone awry and chances of any stripe dried up after Luke Fahy claimed his second point shortly after. \nLouth started to dominate\, reeling Cork in slower than should have been the case. They kicked six wides and one short after the interval but reel them in they did. Level with 14 minutes to play\, they scored the last five points of the day. \nThe result doesn’t change much for two teams treading water in mid-table but the scoreline adds fuel to the momentum Louth continue to generate under Mickey Harte. DESCRIPTION:Derry defeated Clare by 0-14 to 0-4 in the Allianz Football League Division 2 on Sunday March 19th at Owenbeg. \n\nDerry cruise into top flight against listless Clare \nAllianz FL Division 2Derry 0-14 Clare 0-04  \nReport by Michael Wilson for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nUlster champions Derry are back in Division One for the first time since 2015 after a comfortable 10-point victory over Clare in front of 4\,127 spectators in Owenbeg on Sunday. \nRory Gallagher’s men were in charge from the first whistle against a Clare side that never asked any serious questions\, the game all but over after an opening half that resembled an Oak Leaf training session at times. \nThe victory made it six wins from six for the Ulster champions who have looked a Division One outfit in all but name throughout a hugely impressive league campaign. \nDerry made one change from the team that started against Dublin\, Gareth McKinless\, such an effective half-time substitute against Dublin a fortnight ago\, in from the start with Padraig Cassidy dropping to the bench. \nThe stakes were high for both counties\, the Oak Leafers seeking that return to the top flight but Clare anxious to avoid a first season in Division 3 since being promoted back in 2016. \nTactically the teams mirrored each other\, both pulling every man back out of possession\, but there the similarities ended. Derry were efficient\, ruthless and composed while the Bannermen looked nervous and bereft of ideas in a half in which they managed only three shots\, the first arriving in the 27th minute\, and never troubled the scoreboard as Derry turned around with a commanding 0-9 to no score lead. \nThe story of the first quarter could be summed up as such; Derry seven points from eight shots after nine attacks; Clare no shots from five attacks. \nThe visitors had no shortage of possession but most of that was in front of Derry’s defence with Colm Collins’ men struggling to penetrate the home 20m line. \nIn contrast\, Derry went through the gears at their ease\, the excellent Conor McCluskey and Ethan Doherty the main accelerators for wave after wave of attack that could have yielded even more than the nine first-half points they eventually did. \nA patient build-up brought Niall Loughlin the game’s opening score only one minute in and from there Derry were in cruise control with keeper Odhran Lynch spending more time in the opposition half than in his own. \nLoughlin’s opener was added to by scores from Shane McGuigan (2)\, Conor Glass and Ethan Doherty as Derry were five up after 16 minutes and they had added further scores from Ethan Doherty again and Conor Doherty by the time Emmet McMahon registered Clare’s first shot in the 26th minute. \nA McGuigan point rounded off the first-half action with Derry having a spread of six scorers\, nine points to the good and already looking every inch the Division One outfit. \nColm Collins’ response to the opening half was to introduce both Cillian Rouine and Padraic Collins at half-time but Derry resumed as they had left off with McKinless fisting his first score before a Shane McGuigan free took the home advantage out to 11 points. Niall Loughlin was also unlucky to see a goal chance saved byClare keeper Stephen Ryan. \nThe game briefly sparked into life as a Keelan Sexton tackle prompted a bit of pushing and shoving that saw the Clare man booked along with Chrissy McKaigue and there was a black card for half-time sub Collins shortly after. \nFrom there it was only ever about the margin of victory. Clare did manage further scores from Emmet McMahon and Dermot Coughlan but those were only academic footnotes on a totally dominant Derry display. Kerry needed that. They needed the win and the confidence boost it provides\, they needed that far more than they needed the pair of league points on offer that’s for sure. \nThe manner in which the victory over Down was achieved too\, coming from behind in the last quarter\, with some sensational scores\, and a brilliant goal from Jordan Conway\, will provide a real shot in the arm for this bunch of hurlers. \nWhile far from a vintage display in the round\, the way the Kingdom rounded out that game will give them huge encouragement ahead of next weekend’s trip to Tullamore to face Offaly in the semi-final. \nThere were times in the second half when Down looked to be streaking clear\, particularly after a second half goal for Tom McGrattan helped them to a five-point advantage. \nThat Kerry were able to reel them back in – the subs bench providing 1-6 for the home side – tells us that despite somewhat patchy form\, their desire hasn’t stated. They still want to achieve\, and who’s to say this won’t be a turning point in their season? \nWith guys like Mikey Boyle – brilliant down the back straight as always – and Eric Leen fronting up at the back\, with Daniel Collins rarely putting a foot wrong at midfield and with Shane Conway again showing the type of form we know him capable of up front\, there’s genuine hope ahead of next weekend. \nSome things\, though\, will need improving upon. Stephen Molumphy’s men had 22 missed chances in all\, encompassing fourteen wides\, some of which were eminently within range. A reminder that this side still have a ways to go\, that not everything has changed because of one solid fifteen minutes of hurling. \nFor example\, the pattern of the first half was oddly familiar. The Kingdom started quite well\, encouragingly even. The passing was much\, much sharper than it was in Newbridge last weekend\, and with three early scores it appeared as though they might open up properly for the first time in a while. \nThe third of those three early points\, with Pádraig Boyle assisting Fionán Mackessy running off the shoulder on seven minutes was nicely assertive and direct.  \nAlas\, and not for the first time\, Kerry’s shooting rather let them down. By the end of the first half the green and gold had shot eight wides\, hit the upright with another and dropped a tenth chance short\, allowing Down the confidence to build their way into the fixture. \nHaving shot three unanswered up the seventh minute\, Kerry were outscored by Down eight points to one over the following eleven minutes to leave it a double score game\, 0-4 to 0-8 with Dáithí Sands and Pearse Óg McCrickard really coming into their own for the Mourne men. \nA pair of points on 24 and 27 minutes from the impressive Jason Diggins – in his first start back – brought the home side back into the tie. Down\, however\, still managed to outscore Kerry four points to three to the half-time break to establish a nice bridgehead – 0-9 to 0-12. \nDown manager Ronan Sheehan would have been quietly confident that his charges could push on in the second half against a Kerry side with nothing tangible to play for\, even if the home side did have a strengthening breeze into the Mitchels’ end for the second half. \nInstead Kerry started with something of a bang\, Pádraig Boyle hitting the crossbar with a goal-scoring chance before Jordan Conway got his first point of the afternoon. \nBy the 43rd minute Kerry were back level at 0-13 each\, with Dan Goggin shooting a pair of beautiful points in quick succession. It was still level pegging ten minutes later – 0-15 apiece – before Down put on something of a spurt\, starting with a shot at goal by Tom McGrattan\, which stuck the upright on 53 minutes. \nA warning shot across the bows for Kerry\, albeit one not heeded with Tim Prenter assisting McGrattan for a classy goal just a minute later\, 0-15 to 1-15. The Mourne men carrying on their purple patch to extend their advantage to five points by 62 minutes in the wake of a Paul Sheehan free. \nIt was looking fairly ominous for the Kingdom at this juncture\, but you know what they say? It’s always darkest before dawn and within a couple of minutes Kerry were back to within a score. \nFirst a Shane Conway free on 62 minutes and then two minutes after that a brilliant goal by his namesake\, Jordan\, who took a very clever assist from full-forward Michael Leane before planting the ball to keeper Stephen Keith’s left and into the side netting. \nA point from the goal-scorer a minute later brought the Kingdom back level – 1-18 to 1-18 – and while Sheehan from play sent Down clear one more time\, from there on out Kerry took control with points from Goggin and Philip Lucid to take the victory by the narrowest of margins. \nA deserved victory? Just about you’d have to say. Down\, who stay up following Carlow’s victory over Derry in Dr Cullen Park\, won’t be too disheartened by the result one suspects with a Joe McDonagh Cup clash between the sides in Ballycran still to come in a couple of weeks. \nIn the meantime\, Kerry have a league semi-final to negotiate and\, who knows\, maybe even a league final showdown with Kildare. DESCRIPTION:Tipperary defeated Antrim by 4-28 to 2-17 in the Allianz Hurling League on Sunday 19th March at Corrigan Park Belfast. \n\n\nREPORT: Liam Cahill's in form @TipperaryGAA proved too strong for @AontroimGAA in the #AllianzLeagues \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) March 19\, 2023 \n  \nAllianz HL D1: Tipperary maintain good form \nTipperary 4-28 Antrim 2-16 \nReport by David Mohan at Corrigan Park for GAA.ie \nTipperary marched into next week’s Allianz Hurling League semi-final in impressive fashion as they maintained their 100 per cent record with a comprehensive win over Antrim at Corrigan Park. \nNeither side had much riding on this game with Antrim already assured of Division One hurling for 2024 and Tipperary through to next week’s semi-final\, but it was Liam Cahill’s Premier side that looked to have a bit more energy about them on the day as they romped to a victory with 11 different scorers on the board. \nThe game was effectively over by half-time when Tipp led by 14 points and although the hosts rallied after the break for a spell\, they were never really threatening a comeback with the visitors able to keep the board ticking over. \nSeaan Elliott nudged Antrim into an early lead\, but Tipperary were quickly into their stride with 1-4 in response – the goal coming when Antrim coughed up cheap possession and Mark Kehoe fired home on four minutes. \nThe scores began to flow for Tipperary with nine different scorers in the opening period\, while Antrim struggled to make much headway with any ball into the attack easily mopped up by the visiting defence. \nTipperary’s second goal game on 20 minutes as Sean Ryan put Conor Bowe into to rattle the net and this made it 2-8 to 0-4. \nConal Cunning\, Nigel Elliott and Michael Bradley were carrying the fight for Antrim\, but Tipperary were much more fluid with Gearóid O’Connor\, John McGrath and Sean Ryan all finding their range as well as wing-back Enda Heffernan\, while goal number three arrived just before the break as Pauric Campion got in on the right and finished\, helping Tipperary into a 3-13 to 0-8 half-time lead. \nO’Connor frees extended the gap after the break before Antrim enjoyed a decent spell with two goals in four minutes\, the first coming when Domhnall Nugent put Nigel Elliott in to rattle the net and then Cunning put Rian McMullan in to finish. \nHowever\, they were unable to sustain the pressure with the gap down to 10 as Tipp hit back with their fourth major on 49 minutes as the impressive Sean Ryan shrugged off a challenge to blast past Ryan Elliott. \nThat was that as John McGrath began to put on an exhibition of point-talking\, while substitutes Johnny Ryan and John Campion got in on the act. \nAntrim had a couple of decent phases with a few of their replacements\, Paul Boyle\, Seamus McAuley and Scott Walsh on target\, but Tipperary could manage the game out as they powered over the line with yet another big score ahead of next week’s semi-final against Limerick. \nScorers for Tipperary: Gearoid O’Connor 0-9 (7fs\, 1 65)\, John McGrath 0-7 (1f)\, Sean Ryan 1-3\, Mark Kehoe 1-0\, Conor Bowe 1-0\, Pauric Campion 1-0\, Enda Heffernan 0-3\, Alan Tynan 0-2\, Joe Fogarty 0-2\, Johnny Ryan 0-1\, John Campion 0-1. \nScorers for Antrim: Conal Cunning 0-5 (3fs\, 1 65)\, Nigel Elliott 1-2\, Rian McMullan 1-1\, Michael Bradley 0-3\, Paul Boyle 0-2\, Seaan Elliott 0-1\, Scott Walsh 0-1\, Seamus McAuley 0-1 \nTipperary: Rhys Shelly; However\, Kilkenny were back on top just inside the last 10 regulation minutes as substitute Shane Walsh sent over a point with his first from play and Billy Drennan’s eighth converted free doubled the gap. Drennan\, from another free\, and Patrick Fitzgerald exchanged scores before the teams did so again in injury-time. \nThe wet conditions played their part in a disappointing first half\, although the depleted teams played the leading roles. Waterford struck eight wides\, two of them from frees\, which saw Patrick Curran replaced by Paudie Fitzgerald who looked more comfortable with his strikes. \nKilkenny led from the outset to the half-time break\, although they looked leggy at times and ran out of ideas far too quick. Billy Drennan’s frees kept the scoreboard ticking over but they didn’t once trouble Billy Nolan’s goal. \nHaving said that\, Darren Brennan was hardly troubled at the opposite end other than the amount of times he had to restart the game. DESCRIPTION:Clare drew with Cork on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-18 in the Allianz Hurling League on Sunday 19th March at Cusack Park Ennis. \n\nMatch Highlights \n\n\nREPORT: @GaaClare and @OfficialCorkGAA divided the #AllianzLeagues spoils at Cusack Park #GAA \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) March 19\, 2023 \n  \nAllianz HL D1: Spoils divided at Cusack Park \nClare 2-18 Cork 2-18 \nReport By Eoin Brennan at Cusack Park for GAA.ie \nCork will face Kilkenny in the Allianz Hurling League Semi-Finals for the second successive season next weekend after protecting their unbeaten group record in front of 3\,446 in Cusack Park\, Ennis. \nWith the Rebels already safely through as Division 1A before a ball was even pucked on Sunday\, the result was a bonus as injury-time points from substitutes Conor Lehane and Conor Cahalane snatched a share of the spoils with hosts Clare. \nThe Banner\, off the back of a disappointing home reverse to Galway last time out\, needed to finish their league campaign on a positive note and despite a final quarter dismissal of David Fitzgerald\, a draw seemed the fairest outcome. \nTheir Munster Championship rematch at the same venue in nine weeks time will undoubtedly be played at a higher tempo and intensity but it was still a worthwhile outing as the home side were best served by top-scorer Aidan McCarthy (1-11)\, Conor Cleary and John Conlon while newcomers Brian Hayes\, Brian Roche and Padraig Power impressed for Cork. \nOn the flip side\, ahead of next weekend’s penultimate stage\, Cork Manager Pat Ryan will be concerned about the fitness of chief marksmen Seamus Harnedy and Declan Dalton who were both withdrawn late in the opening period through injury. \nHowever\, the visitors showed tremendous grit to face into the inclement conditions for the second half and dig out a draw. \nPadraig Power’s eighth minute goal cooper fastened a hugely positive start too as Cork powered into a 1-3 to 0-1 advantage. Clare’s response was instant though as from the puck-out Tony Kelly’s powerful shot could only be parried by goalkeeper Ger Collins into the path of David Reidy to bat the rebound to the net. \nThat seesaw pattern continued until the break as Aidan McCarthy led a Clare revival to inch 1-8 to 1-7 in front by the 20th minute\, only to fall five adrift four minutes later when Seamus Harnedy capitalised upon a defensive lapse to nudge Cork 2-10 to 1-8 ahead. \nInevitably back came Clare with another rebound goal\, this time through McCarthy who pulled to the net after Seadna Morey’s shot was initially stopped by Collins as the half-time arrears were slashed to just two at 2-12 to 2-10. \nDown the other end\, Alan Cadogen and Brian Hayes were both denied goals either side of the interval but it was wind-assisted Clare that incrementally took over as the second half developed albeit without ever putting clear daylight between the sides. \nA trio of Aidan McCarthy frees did inch the Banner 2-17 to 2-15 ahead entering the final quarter but a straight red for his Inagh-Kilnamona club-mate David Fitzgerald following an altercation with Robert Downey in the 65th.
