DESCRIPTION:Cork defeated Kerry by 3-11 to 0-9 in the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Final on Wednesday June 1st at Páirc Uí Rinn. \n\nCork crowned Munster champions after 11-point victory over Kerry \nBy Eoghan Cormican for Irish Examiner newspaper \nCork 3-11 Kerry 0-9   \nEven allowing for the vagaries of the U17 age grade\, this was a quite sensational turnaround by the Cork minor footballers. \nThree weeks ago in Tralee\, Kerry had 14 points to spare over Cork in the Munster semi-final. This evening at Páirc Uí Rinn\, Cork dished out an 11-point hammering to complete the county’s first set of back-to-back provincial titles at minor level in 22 years. \nAnd just to spare you the maths\, that’s a 25-point swing in Cork’s favour in the space of 20 days. \nAs we said at the outset\, quite sensational. \nMost of the damage was done in a first half performance that had Cork 1-9 to 0-5 ahead at the break and one that is dealt with further down\, but it was in the second period where Cork made absolutely certain of the result against the 14-man visitors. \nCork had extended their interval advantage to eight when Kerry centre-back Darragh O’Connor received a straight red card for an off the ball challenge on 35 minutes. \nAnd while Kerry did kick the next two points to pare the deficit back to eight\, their challenge petered out thereafter. James Costello’s side managed just one point from play in the second half an hour. \nTwice Kerry were caught on the break for two Cork goals\, Alan O’Connell finishing the first on 45 minutes\, with Brian Hayes’ kick a near carbon copy less than two minutes later. \n\n\n"Ní sháróidh tú é sin mar chúl an samhradh seo" \nAlan O'Connell's 70 yard run and finish – you won't see better.@MunsterGAA @OfficialCorkGAA @KilshannigGAA | #GAApic.twitter.com/1ML6cXkKvh \n— Spórt TG4 (@SportTG4) June 2\, 2022 \n  \n\nThe green flag brace left the scoreline reading 3-10 to 0-7 in Cork’s favour\, a scarcely believable scenario in the context of what had happened on May 12 at Austin Stack Park. \nIt was that 1-16 to 0-5 result that contributed to Kerry cutting a stunned bunch as they retreated to the dressing-room at half-time\, the overwhelming favourites finding themselves not just behind\, but a full seven points behind. \nIt was a superb first half showing from Cork\, and that’s ever before comparing it to their insipid display in Tralee and the improvements made in the space of three short weeks. \nIt was a first half where the hosts could do no wrong. Even their opening goal spoke of an evening where Cork were getting every bounce of the ball going. A booming effort from out the field by midfielder Colm Gillespie on 26 minutes came back down off the post\, the rebound falling kindly to corner-forward Hayes who buried past Shay O’Meara. \nGillespie’s earlier two kicks at the Kerry posts\, both also launched from out on the Boreenmanna Road\, had sailed straight and through\, the Aghabullogue youngster playing a captain’s role in this Cork rebellion. \nThen again\, Cork had several bright notes across a first half where their directness and intent was unrecognisable from their ponderous and aimless play three weeks ago. \nHayes\, along with his goal\, kicked a hattrick of points\, two of those from the placed ball\, with Ed Myers\, Alan O’Connell\, and Olan O’Donovan also putting a scoring finish to the end of purposeful Cork plays. \nHalf-back Darragh O’Donovan was another to write his name onto the first half scoresheet\, the Bishopstown youngster producing a number of incisive forays into the opposition end of the field. \nKerry\, by contrast\, were neither incisive nor direct. But they did get off the mark as Steven Sherlock slotted over. \nThat was before Brian Hurley tapped over a pair of points for the Rebels\, one from play and another from a mark. \nLouth got level with a goal in the 17th minute through a well worked collective move\, which was finished from close range to the back of the net by Liam Jackson. \nIt was finely poised at the midway stage of the first half. Sam Mulroy slotted over a free for Louth\, while Sherlock continued to prove a reliable scoring option at the other end. \nOn the half hour mark Brian Hurley put Cork 0-7 to 1-2 ahead with a lovely pointed score from distance. \nDan Corcoran got another Louth point just before the break to reduce the gap down to one\, leaving everything all to play for heading into the second half. \nSam Mulroy and Sherlock continued to prove vital scorers for Louth and Cork respectively. \nCork goalkeeper Christopher Kelly was then called into make a fine double save from a Louth chance from Keenan. \nAlthough this tactical affair was proving a tough watch at times for the spectators\, it was very much keeping Louth right in the mix\, as Mulroy slotted over a free on 51 minutes. \nOn 65 minutes Brian Hurley blasted into the back of the net for Cork\, following a lovely run in the build up from Sean Powter. \nHowever\, a well taken Colm O’Callaghan goal in second half stoppage time saw Cork hit the back of the net for a second occasion \nThat appeared to be that. Ironically\, the draw came against Louth in 2006 (2-16 each after extra-time) in Navan. Tyrone won the replay by five points in Omagh.

DESCRIPTION:Antrim defeated Kerry by 5-22 to 4-24 in the Joe McDonagh Cup Hurling Final on Saturday June 4th at Croke Park. \n\nMatch Highlights \n\nWatch the Full-Time Highlights of Antrim v Kerry in the Joe McDonagh Cup Final here on #GAANOW pic.twitter.com/LhR5vZKfxS \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 4\, 2022 \n  \n\n\nREPORT: @AontroimGAA won a Joe McDonagh Cup Final thriller against @Kerry_Official at @CrokePark \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 4\, 2022 \n  \nJoe McDonagh Cup Final: Antrim win thriller \nAntrim 5-22 Kerry 4-24 \nReport By Paul Keane at Croke Park for GAA.ie \nAntrim will compete in the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2023 after edging a remarkable Joe McDonagh Cup final to regain their Leinster SHC status. \nGoals from Ciaran Clarke\, who struck 2-2\, Conal Cunning\, who finished with 1-12\, James McNaughton and Seaan Elliott ultimately edged a dramatic Croke Park final. \nIt was the Saffrons’ second McDonagh Cup final win over Kerry in three seasons\, repeating their 2020 success\, and they will return to action next weekend against Cork in an All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarter-final tie. \nKerry will be back in action too\, against Wexford\, though it will take some time for the Kingdom to process the outcome of this nine-goal thriller which went right to the wire. \nAntrim led by 12 points after 25 minutes but when Padraig Boyle\, who struck 2-11 in total for Kerry\, rifled his second goal in the 77th minute it reduced the deficit to just a single point. \nTime ultimately ran out on resurgent Kerry who slipped to their third consecutive final defeat. \nWith Antrim striking 20 goals in just five group games – six against Down and seven against Meath – the challenge for Stephen Molumphy’s Kerry was clear; stop the Saffrons from raising green flags. \nUnfortunately for the Kingdom they failed to do that and by half-time the favourites had three goals registered\, not to mention the 14 points they also plundered. \nKerry played with a two-man full-forward line of Colum Harty and Shane Conway\, allowing them to drop Colin Walsh\, wearing number 10\, into defence and ultimately freeing Mikey Boyle to perform as a sweeper. \nIt was a clear ploy to prevent Antrim cutting their defence asunder but the Division 1 outfit found it a simple enough exercise to work their way around the extra bodies. \nSome of their attacking moves were sumptuous as they dovetailed superbly and swooped for their first goal after just five minutes. \nClarke danced infield from the right beyond a couple of Kerry defenders after being played in by Joe Maskey and slammed the ball to the net. \nSix minutes later\, Clarke was the provider for McNaughton who still had some work to do to shake off Paudie O’Connor but showed real strength to break clear and make it goal number two. \nAlready Kerry looked in real trouble with Antrim 2-3 to 0-2 up. \nFour Cunning points in a row\, and another from Keelan Molloy\, left 11 points between them – Antrim would stretch the gap to 12 after 25 minutes – and it looked at that early stage like the game might already be beyond Kerry. \nCredit to the Munster men for refusing to throw in the towel. Watch GAANOW highlights below! pic.twitter.com/DgtAU0DH9X \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 7\, 2022 \n  \n\n\nREPORT: Colm Collins' gritty @GaaClare team defeated @MeathGAA at Cusack Park \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 4\, 2022 \n  \nAll Ireland SFC R1: Clare defeat Meath \nClare 1-11 Meath 1-9 \nReport By Eoin Brennan at Cusack Park for GAA.ie \nClare finally banished their Meath hex in a dramatic opening All-Ireland knock-out tie in front of 2\,460 in Cusack Park Ennis this evening. \nAndy McEntee’s side had held the Indian sign over the Banner with five successive victories in as many seasons but despite a frustrating second half display with the aid of the strong conditions that included a penalty save and eight wides\, Clare persisted to relievedly fall over the line with late points from substitute Keelan Sexton and Manus Doherty. \nThe hosts had started superbly against the conditions\, with points from Eoin Cleary\, Emmet McMahon and Darren O’Neill bolstered by a 12th minute goal for Pearse Lillis to power Clare into a 1-3 to 0-0 advantage by the end of the opening quarter. \nLillis nipped in ahead of Harry Hogan to flick a dipping Eoin Cleary point attempt to the net but the goalkeeper immediately made amends when denying the goalscorer from point blank range only four minutes later. \nIndeed\, it took Meath 18 minutes to finally get off the mark through Thomas O’Reilly but it did little to alter the narrative as Clare only extended their cushion to seven at 1-6 to 0-2 by the 27th minute. \nMeath\, who sorely lacked a scorer-in-chief throughout\, did find some solace from their collective as Jack O’Connor\, Jason Scully\, Eoin Harkin and Cillian O’Sullivan lessened the half-time damage to just four at 1-7 to 0-6. \nRemarkably\, Clare would suffer the same profligate fate with the wind at their backs for the new half as six third quarter wides would be punished by Meath whose challenge would be ignited by a 40th minute lifeline goal. \nHalf-time substitute Joey Wallace cut in from the left corner only to be felled for a penalty that full-back Conor McGill cooly dispatched to the bottom right corner of the net. Watch GAANOW highlights below! pic.twitter.com/R9qmuyOnEu \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 13\, 2022 \n  \n\nThree second-half goals see Wexford breeze past Kerry in Tralee  \nReport by Michael Moynihan for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nKERRY 0-18 WEXFORD 3-30 \nWexford had too much for Kerry in this All-Ireland qualifier in Austin Stack Park\, Tralee\, with three second-half goals securing their win. \nEarly on the game went very much according to expectations\, with Wexford seeking to put the contest to bed early on with the aid of the breeze.  \nLee Chin’s accuracy from frees meant Wexford led 0-5 to 0-1 on ten minutes. \nKerry settled\, however\, and Podge Boyle matched Chin from placed balls: his fourth free meant Wexford led by only one on 20 minutes\, 0-6 to 0-7. \nWexford struck back in spades\, outscoring Kerry by 0-10 to 0-2 in the rest of the half. They were turned back when Rory O’Connor surged looking for a goal on 25 minutes\, the Kerry defence blocking him twice\, but Wexford led 0-16 to 0-8 at the break. \nThe visitors restarted with three points on the bounce before Boyle responded with a free – 0-19 to 0-9 on 42 minutes and Wexford fully in control. \nKerry hit three in a row – including a beautiful sideline from Eoin Ross – to keep their opponents in sight but Wexford were always able to maintain a significant cushion. \nTheir breakthrough goal came after a good move\, with Conor McDonald blasting to the net on 54 minutes. Cathal O’Connor showed incredible leadership and drive at midfield\, crowning an excellent personal display with two stunning points\, and all across the field\, it seemed like Clare were much more eager to try and make ground as fast as possible. \nRoscommon got an early break when a hopeful\, high ball from Conor Cox found Diarmuid Murtagh isolated inside the square\, and the big St. Faithleach’s man was able to outreach Tristan O’Callaghan and touch the ball into the Clare net. \nClare quickly got back on terms however\, before retaking the lead midway through the first half through a Keelan Sexton goal. Ciarán Russell did well to keep the play alive in the right corner\, and once he played the ball across to Sexton\, pressure from David Murray and Ronan Daly was unable to prevent him forcing the ball across the line. \nIt looked like Roscommon settled themselves through a Ciaráin Murtagh point\, but outside of the two Murtagh brothers\, they made very little impression up front\, and spurned a number of opportunities as they tried to force openings in a very crowded goalmouth. \nClare pushed their lead out to four points coming up to half-time\, but it seemed that Roscommon found a little bit of energy and urgency in response to that setback\, and they forced two more points before half-time to leave it 1-10 to 1-8 at the break. \nPerhaps it took that time for the Rossies to get their Connacht final defeat out of their system\, as they were a transformed side after half-time. Ultan Harney and Eddie Nolan took control of midfield\, Ronan\, Conor and Niall Daly all drove forward with purpose\, while their bench played a huge role in turning the game around. \nDonie Smith\, Richard Hughes and Keith Doyle all chipped in with points from play as they pushed up\, forced mistakes and turnovers on the Clare side\, and after conceding the first score of the second half to a well-take Sexton free\, they went on an 0-9 to 0-1 run up until the 68th minute. \nThat looked for all the world as if it would be enough\, but after a quick free from Eoin Cleary reduced the gap\, a lapse in defensive concentration left Gavin Cooney one-on-one with David Murray under a high ball. DESCRIPTION:Kerry defeated Tyrone by 0-8 to 1-4 in the Electric Ireland GAA Football All-Ireland Minor Championship Quarter-Final on Saturday June 11th at MW Hire O’Moore Park Portlaoise. \n\nKerry minors eke out victory in low-scoring Tyrone affair \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nKerry 0-8 Tyrone 1-4 \nKerry\, despite going scoreless for 22 minutes of the second half\, edged out Ulster champions Tyrone to secure their place in the last four of the All-Ireland MFC. \nThis narrow and extremely hard-earned quarter-final victory allows Kerry to move on from their 11-point Munster final hammering to Cork\, while equally ensuring their season is not defined by that provincial decider horror show. \nAhead by 0-6 to 1-2 at the end of a first half dictated by Tyrone’s defence-centred set-up\, Kerry stretched two clear early in the second period when midfielder Eddie Healy kicked a booming point from distance. \nThat score\, though\, was to prove their last for 22 minutes\, during which time they lost half-forward Niall Collins to a black card\, but still managed to hold the inside lane as all Tyrone could conjure was a solitary point. \nHalf-back Fionn Murphy\, from the placed ball\, brought an end to Kerry’s barren spell on 58 minutes\, his score coming after a whole host of squandered Kerry chances that either fell short\, hit the post\, drifted wide\, or the attack simply broke down. \nForced to emerge from their defensive shell\, Tyrone gave fierce chase late on and while they reduce the gap to the minimum with an injury-time Caolon Donnelly point\, they could not find an equaliser at the end of a contest that will live long in nobody’s memory. \nTyrone’s safety-first and defence-heavy approach contributed to a slow grind of a first half that didn’t really develop any semblance of flow until Kerry kicked three-in-a-row in a three-minute spell coming up on the 25th minute. \nTyrone’s 13-boy rearguard and willingness to hold onto possession for long spells without making a significant amount of yardage was a game-plan Kerry struggled to tailor their own approach to during an opening 22 minutes that produced just four scores. \nThe pick of those was the quarter-final’s opener\, Caolon Donnelly palming a Ronan Molloy pass over the head of Kerry goalkeeper Shay O’Meara seven minutes in. It was to prove the Ulster champions’ sole score from play in the opening half an hour. Indeed\, they’d not register a second score from play for another 40 minutes after the green flag. \nKerry’s opener\, two minutes after the Donnelly major and provided by Cormac Dillon\, epitomised the patience Kerry had to show when trying to find a chink in the populated Tyrone rearguard. \nAs mentioned above\, they enjoyed far greater success in doing so later in the half\, with a pair from Dillon arriving either side of a Paddy Lane effort to send the Kingdom in front – 0-5 to 1-1 – for the first time on 24 minutes. \nKey to this succession of Kerry scores was the high press they put on Conor McAneney’s restarts\, forcing the Tyrone number one to go long and hope for the best. DESCRIPTION:Derry defeated Cork by 0-12 to 0-6 in the Electric Ireland GAA Football All-Ireland Minor Championship Quarter-Final on Saturday June 11th at MW Hire O’Moore Park\, Portlaoise. \n\nDerry dominate Cork to book place among last four \nReport by Eoghan Cormican for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nDerry 0-12 Cork 0-6 \nThe Derry minor footballers have bounced back from their Ulster final defeat in fine fashion to book a spot in the All-Ireland semi-finals. \nMartin Boyle’s young charges\, who coughed up 4-8 during the provincial final loss to Tyrone\, conceded just 0-6 here\, only four of which came from play. \nIt was a dominant performance from the northerners who led from gun to tape\, their advantage at one point in the second period standing eight strong. \nCork\, who managed a desperate three points across the first 56 minutes\, made a belated charge coming down the stretch when kicking three-in-a-row through Brian Hayes (two frees) and Colm Gillespie. But far too late came their injection of intensity. \nDerry’s six-point win made it back-to-back defeats for the provincial champions in action at O’Moore Park\, Cork following Ulster winners Tyrone out the exit door. And the same as the Kerry-Tyrone tie\, this was a worryingly defensive game of football. Value for money was certainly not to be found in the midlands this afternoon. \nAhead by 0-5 to 0-2 at the break\, Derry signaled there would be no let up in their superiority when midfielder Ruairi Forbes split the Cork posts 10 seconds after the restart. \nCiarán Chambers and Odhran Crozier followed with a pair of frees\, Derry as good as out the gap at 0-8 to 0-2 in front on 42 minutes. \nAnother three-in-a-row in the final quarter from Eoin Higgins (0-2\, one free) and Odhran Murphy removed any doubt from the outcome. \nNo more than the first half of the opening game in this Portlaoise double-header\, the first 30 minutes of Cork-Derry was an extremely tough watch. \nCork were much less Munster final penetration and intensity and far more Munster semi-final laborious and lateral. \nThe sheepish Munster champions managed all of two points in the opening half\, corner-forward Olan O’Donovan and midfielder Colm Gillespie on 12 and 26 minutes contributing their paltry 0-2 total. \nMichael O’Brien’s young charges were inexplicably slow and ponderous in their build-up play\, particularly when attempting to hurt Derry on the counter\, their unhurried and less than incisive approach work allowing Derry flood back in numbers and close off all channels. \nThere was far more oomph and intent to Derry’s movements going forward\, the Oak Leaf youngsters darting three clear through Ciarán Chambers (0-2\, one free)\, and centre-back Odhran Crozier before Cork got off the mark. \nThe beaten Ulster finalists could have easily had a green flag during this promising start\, Cork ‘keeper Josh Woods excellently getting a hand to a Johnny McGuckian palmed effort. Five wides were shared between the teams before a fine strike from Jack O’Neill settled the Banner County\, and sure enough\, once they were off the mark\, Clare found their rhythm quite quickly. \nCaelum Larkin and Ruairí Kelly had to be sharp to deny Sam Scanlon a clear goal chance\, with Oisín Whelan pointing the resultant 65\, and further scores from James Organ and Whelan put Clare into a commanding lead coming up to the quarter hour mark. \nIn the absence of inspiration up front\, Offaly leaned heavily on perspiration to break their scoring duck\, forcing a turnover that led to Adam Screeney pointing a free. \nThere was plenty of magic about their second score\, a majestic strike on the run from wing-back Donal Shirley\, and in the blink of an eye Offaly were in front through a Dan Ravenhill free and a clever close range finish from Adam Screeney\, deftly floating the sliotar over Mark Sheedy for the game’s first goal. \nInaccuracy continued to plague both sides but there was no shortage of endeavour\, as the two teams played with the intensity that the occasion merited. \nOisín Whelan fired over a point from a tight angle\, Matthew O’Halloran struck an excellent score from distance as Clare piled on the pressure\, but Offaly held their nerve to lead by two at half-time\, 1-6 to 0-7. \nAt the start of the first half\, the two teams played like it was a big occasion. At the start of the second\, they played with the ferocity of a full-blooded championship match\, and the quality went through the roof. \nJack O’Neill opened the scoring for Clare but Offaly’s reply was emphatic\, a long puck out that was fielded by Conor Doyle and as the defence opened up in front of him\, he turned down the easy point and drove for goal\, making it count as he fired a low shot into the corner from just inside the 20m line. \nAs Dan Ravenhill hoisted over a couple of glorious long range scores\, Offaly moved six clear and looked like they might pull away to win well\, but again Clare rallied and four points on the spin\, the highlight a crafty steal and strike from Diarmuid Stritch\, threw everything right back in the melting pot. \nOffaly had a trump card however in the shape of substitute Daniel Hand\, who was unavailable for the Leinster final but came on to play a key role here\, firing over a vital\, settling point and also winning a couple of key possessions. \nThe volume was raised even further as Ravenhill again found the target from distance\, though there was to be one last push from the Banner men. Cian Neylon got two good points\, though one could have been a goal chance but for solid defensive work from Rúairí Kelly\, while Oisín Whelan knocked over a few frees as tiredness and nervousness crept into Offaly’s play. The Munster side will reflect on the concession of those green flags as well as wastefulness at the other end\, especially in the first half. Down by five points at half-time\, they came back to within one on more than one occasion but an equaliser remained elusive. \nThe game wasn’t even a half-minute old when Galway corner-back Jack Grealish put them in front as his long ball wasn’t cleanly claimed by Cork goalkeeper Patrick Collins and ended up in the net. Cork almost replied immediately but Éanna Murphy saved from Alan Connolly and the goalkeeper was to make two more important saves in the first period\, denying Robbie O’Flynn and Darragh Fitzibbon. \nThough Cork did get up and running as Conor Lehane’s free cut the gap to a point\, 1-1 to 0-3\, Galway’s Conor Cooney replied with a free and then they had a goal as Conor Whelan beat Seán O’Donoghue to a Tom Monaghan delivery and produced a superb low finish across Collins and into the net. \nCork responded well to that and when Robbie O’Flynn landed a fine point on 27\, it was 2-3 to 0-6 but Galway had scores from Whelan\, David Burke and Joseph Cooney to give them a cushion again. \nShane Kingston’s free for Cork left five in it at the break and then\, four minutes into the second half\, the same player made it a two-point game when he seized possession as Galway came out of defence and kept his composure to finish well. \nHowever\, Henry Shefflin’s side weren’t knocked out of their stride and cancelled out the goal with points from Burke\, Conor Cooney and an outrageous Whelan effort. Much of the half was like that as Cork would make a burst to come within touching distance only for Galway – with Joseph Cooney excelling after moving to centre-back – to push on again. \nA Cathal Mannion point\, awarded by Hawkeye just after a Mark Coleman sideline cut had been similarly adjudicated\, made it 2-13 to 1-12\, but Cork sub Patrick Horgan had two in a row before O’Flynn got his third. It left a point in it again but once more Galway tacked on a trio\, through sub Johnny Coen\, Monaghan and Joseph Cooney. \nHorgan and another Cork sub\, Alan Cadogan – who finished with three points – cut the deficit again but Cathal Mannion popped up with two big points to give him four and Conor Cooney made it 2-19 to 1-18 with 66 minutes on the clock. \nGalway wouldn’t score again\, but they would survive without needing to. Tipp enjoyed the first purple patch with a four-point run with Conor Martin to the fore. \nGalway responded and hit Tipp for a two-goal blast in the 20th minute\, with Rory Burke provider in both goals for Aaron Niland and Conor Dolphin. DESCRIPTION:Mayo defeated Kerry by 1-8 to 0-9 in the Electric Ireland GAA Football All-Ireland Minor Championship Semi-Final on Saturday June 25th at O’Connor Park Tullamore. \n\n\nREPORT: @MayoGAA earned an Electric Ireland MFC Semi-Final win over @Kerry_Official \n— The GAA (@officialgaa) June 25\, 2022 \n  \nMayo march on to minor final after victory over Kerry \nReport by Kevin Egan for the Irish Examiner newspaper \nElectric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football semi-final  \nMAYO 1-8 KERRY 0-9  \nA first half black card and an incredible one-on-one save proved to be the crucial turning points in this afternoon Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor football championship semi-final in Tullamore\, as Mayo edged out Kerry to set up an all-Connacht final against Galway in a fortnight’s time. \nIt was a contest that failed to catch fire in the early stages\, but the Kingdom will have been quite happy with that state of affairs as they scored three of the first four points and looked like by far the better team.  \nAfter conceding the first score to a free\, points from Darragh O’Connor (Kenmare)\, Donagh O’Sullivan and Cormac Dillon suggested that they were by far the more threatening side\, and even after a wonderful solo goal from Ronan Clarke edged Mayo back in front\, Kerry’s response was exemplary. \nOdhrán Ferris levelled the game with a majestic point from the right wing\, Cormac Dillon put them in front with a point that could have been a goal but for an excellent David Dolan save\, then the dancing feet of Paddy Lane made it 0-6 to 1-1\, the 15-year-old skipping past three defenders before clipping the ball over from 25 metres out. \nCue the first turning point. \nAs Mayo tried to run the ball out of their half-back line\, a body-check from Donagh O’Sullivan saw the Kerry attacked black-carded\, and Mayo were quick to use the extra space and make hay. Four points on the spin before half-time completely turned the game on its head\, and they made it five through a Ronan Clarke free before O’Sullivan returned to the field. \nNow for turning point number two\, a remarkable save from David Dolan. Paddy Lane’s trickery was again on show as he spun out from two tackles to put himself clean through on goal\, and it looked as if the Austin Stacks player had picked out the top corner with his shot.  \nDolan’s positioning was perfect however and he deflected the ball onto the post and gathered it at the second attempt\, drawing a huge roar from the Mayo supporters in the stand. \nSubstitute Darragh O’Connor (Beaufort) fired over the next point from close range\, but there was a spring in Mayo’s step now\, as players like Luke Feeney\, Diarmuid Duffy and Dara Hurley grew increasingly influential in the middle third. Clare’s Championship campaign is over and Derry march on to a first All-Ireland semi-final since 2004. \nAfter the focus on defence in the Ulster final\, this was a much more open game at spacious Croke Park and Derry helped themselves to five goals\, not quite the seven Kerry struck against Kildare at the quarter-final stage in 2015 but mightily impressive nonetheless. \nShane McGuigan led the line again with 1-8 while Conor Glass\, Benny Heron\, Paul Cassidy and Gareth McKinless were all among the goals too. \nDerry led from pillar to post and were full value for their double scores\, 14-point win which puts them through to a July 9 semi-final clash with Galway or Armagh. \nBut it’s the end of the line in this year’s campaign for Clare and after nine seasons in the job\, Collins may very well consider his position too. \nDerry tweaked things tactically by positioning Brendan Rogers\, their full-back hero in the Ulster final\, at midfield alongside Glass. \nEmmett Bradley was initially named to start at midfield but was withdrawn before throw-in and replaced by Niall Toner who lined out in a two-man full-forward line next to Heron. \nMeanwhile\, Shea Downey\, wearing number 11\, dropped back to defence to cover the gap in the full-back line left by Rogers. \nIn the head to heads\, veteran Chrissy McKaigue picked up Clare dangerman Keelan Sexton\, fresh off 2-6 against Roscommon\, while Conor McCluskey tracked Aaron Griffin. \nIt was a setup that worked nicely for Derry who gained early control of the game and capitalised with 10th and 13th minute goals from Heron and Glass. \nHeron’s goal came after a turnover on Clare goalkeeper Tristan O’Callaghan’s kick-out\, clearing Ethan Doherty to play in Heron on the left. \nThree minutes later\, Glass played a one-two with Doherty on the same side of the field and smashed a shot through the gloves of O’Callaghan. \nSuddenly\, Derry led 2-1 to no score and had the game in the palm of their hands. If the Ulster final taught us anything about Derry\, it’s that they’re entirely comfortably playing a patient\, counter-attacking game so the seven-point lead played right into their hands. \nShane McGuigan then came storming into the game with three points to help open up a 2-5 to 0-1 lead and already it was looking like the game may be beyond Clare. \nThey finally gained a foothold in the contest after 30 minutes of difficulties though and reeled off 1-2 in a matter of four minutes – Pearse Lillis cracking in a 34th minute goal – to reduce the lead to six points. \nJust when it looked like Clare might be capable of reeling in what was at one stage a 10-point deficit\, they coughed up a third goal to Derry just moments before half-time. Rogers and McGuigan were centrally involved in the buildup and Cassidy eventually capitalised with a terrific finish to the top corner. \nIt all added up to a 3-6 to 1-3 half-time lead for Derry who went a long way towards killing the contest with a fourth goal from McKinless early in the second-half. \nThe Ballinderry man broke free down the right and booted to the far corner of the Clare net. \nMcGuigan then got the goal his performance deserved in the 48th minute and almost struck a second late on when he pounced on an errant kick-out. But Cork responded right away through Brian Hurley’s lovely point. \nIndeed Hurley continued to cause the Dublin defence problems and he got another point to reduce the gap between the teams down to one. \nDean Rock converted with a score for Dublin to keep them in control\, with Tom Lahiff also successfully converting. \nDublin held the advantage at 0-10 to 0-7 at half time\, but Cork were more than a match for them in a competitive opening half. \nAfter the break Dublin pulled clear of a brave Cork effort. Two Dean Rock frees opened the scoring in the second half and extended the Dublin lead. \nIn the 50th minute Dublin were in a commanding position with a 0-15 to 0-7 advantage. But it was all Kerry from there to the finish as they out-scored their opponents by eight points to one. \nIn the final reckoning Mayo simply didn’t have the same cutting edge in attack that a much more clincial Kerry did. They kicked 12 wides and only converted 10 of 27 scoring chances from play. At this level\, you just can’t afford to be that wasteful. \nCillian O’Connor scored the first point of the match in the very first minute from a free after Aidan O’Shea was fouled and David Clifford responded for Kerry shortly afterwards. \nGavin White then landed a fine point for Kerry before Conor Loftus immediately replied for Mayo\, but after that fast start the game slowed down. \nA slippy sod and greasy ball made the playing conditions challenging\, with both sets of players struggling to get a grip on the game quite literally. \nKerry supporters were given cause to worry when David Clifford pulled up after jarring his right ankle\, and though he soldiered on it looked like it continued to cause him bother. \nHe was being marked very well too by Oisin Mullin\, and with Lee Keegan also dominating his duel with Paudie Clifford the Mayo defence looked very solid. \nAidan O’Shea edged the Connacht side ahead with a fine point from long distance\, but their one-point lead should have been wiped out when Kerry created a glorious goal-chance. \nStephen O’Brien popped a perfectly timed pass to Paul Geaney who raced through on goal and had only Rob Henelly to beat\, but screwed his shot badly wide. \nKerry did draw level three minutes later though when corner-back Tom O’Sullivan shot over from a very narrow angle after an enterprising run forward.
