PRESS RELEASE – CALLING ALL MUNSTER GAA FANS

• Search is on for Munster’s top GAA fan

Monday, May 28, 2012. The Irish Examiner and the Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Awards have launched the search for Munster’s GAA supporter of the Year in a bid to celebrate GAA fans who have real pride in club or county.

Do you get dressed up in your county colours and go to the match, do you know the score of every GAA match your county or club has ever played in? If you feel that describes you, we want to know because we are searching for the Irish Examiner Munster GAA Supporter of the Year! In addition to winning a number of great prizes, the person will be honoured at the glittering Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Awards in December.

Munster Council Chairman Sean Walsh welcomed the return of the provincial ‘Supporter of the Year’ competition, in association with the Irish Examiner, for this season’s inter-county senior championships saying: “We’re delighted to launch the initiative for a second year and particularly to be in partnership with the Irish Examiner. It gives us the chance to honour and recognize those supporters who devote a large amount of their time to support their county’s teams. Supporters can nominate either themselves or another supporter throughout the championship. They can do this by sending a picture to the Irish Examiner facebook page or through the dedicated competitions site which is up and running.”

Last year’s inaugural winner was well known Cork fan, Cyril Kavanagh, instantly recognisable with his Mexican cape and sombrero. However Kavanagh isn’t just an “occasion junkie” — he’s a frequent visitor to Cork training sessions.

To enter GAA fans simply go to www.irishexaminer.com/competitions or via the competitions tab on www.facebook.com/IrishExaminerSport and submit their captioned photo. Tell us who is in the photo, where it was taken and why it is special – maybe it’s what you wear or how passionate they are at games!

A finalist will be selected from each Munster county after the deadline for entries closes in August. The more creative the entry the better your chance of being a finalist!

Coupled with the input of our adjudication panel and a public vote through facebook and text vote, the overall winner will be selected.

For each of the six finalists, they will get signed county jersey as well as overnight accommodation and tickets for two at the glittering black-tie Bord Gáis Energy Munster GAA Awards in December.
