Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 2-11 St Gerald’s, Castlebar 2-2

Report by Cian O’Connell for thescore.ie

POBALSCOIL CHORCA DHUIBHNE booked a place in the Hogan Cup final on April 12 by defeating St Gerald’s Castlebar at McDonagh Park, Nenagh.
A clash with St Patrick’s, Maghera awaits for Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, who are managed by Kerry senior boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice.

Chorca Dhuibhne, who have won three Corn Uí Mhúirí titles on the spin, settled quickly as Séamus O’Muircheartaigh (2), Conchúir O’Géibheannaigh, and Cathal O’Bambaire all landed fine points. But Gerald’s pinched an opportunistic goal against the run of the play in the 15th minute when Gareth Dunne, a significant threat, rattled the Chorca Dhuibhne net.

Máitiú O’Flatharta replied with a point for Chorca Dhuibhne, but Gerald’s reacted sharply to add a second goal in the 17th minute.
Ryan Collins’ clever hand pass released Dunne, who scorched clear to blast another major for the Connacht standard bearers.
Philip Ruddy and Brian O’Raoil swapped delightful long range points as Gerald’s led by one five minutes before the break. Chorca Dhuibhne, though, finished the opening period strongly reeling off 2-3 without reply including two gorgeous goals from Tomás O’Sé and O’Géibheannaigh as the Kerry side went in seven ahead. After the restart Chorca Dhuibhne, with midfielder Barra O’Suilleabháin immense, were never seriously troubled as Gerald’s were unable to find a way back into the reckoning.
