Munster Council Meeting – March 7th 2013

Munster GAA Chairman Robert Frost welcomed all members to the first meeting since the annual convention and in particular the four new delegates – Bob Ryan (Cork), Christy Killeen (Kerry), Joe Crowley (Kerry) and Joe Lyons (Cumann na mBunscol). A special welcome was given to the new President of Munster GAA Teddy O’Sullivan of Kerry.

The various sub-committees of Munster GAA were then circulated and approved – Management and Finance (Chairman – Robert Frost, Clare), Competitions Control Committee (Chairman – Robert Frost, Clare), Planning and Physical Development (Chairman – Robert Frost, Clare), Hearings Committee (Chairman – Denis Holmes, Limerick), Coaching and Games (Chairman – Jerry O’Sullivan, Cork), PR & Marketing (Chairman – Ed Donnelly, Tipperary), Referees (Chairman – Kevin Walsh, Clare), Club and County Support (Chairman – Eamon O’Sullivan, Kerry), Health and Safety (Chairman – Kieran McGann, Cork), Urban Development (Chairman – Donal Shanahan, Tipperary), Football Development (Chairman – Tommy Hennessy, Waterford), Hurling Development (Chairman – Paul Foley – Limerick), Coiste Culturtha (Chairman – Liam Ó Laochdha, Corcaigh) and Coiste Scór (Chairman – Jim Enright, Clare).

In relation to the position of Munster GAA Operations Manager, the Munster GAA Chairman Robert Frost confirmed that following an extensive hiring process he was delighted to propose the name of Kieran Leddy for ratification. Kieran, a native of Araglen, Cork, has served as GAA’s Organisation and Development Manager for the last 6 years, working on a range of areas such as club development programmes, roll out of the Association’s online registration system, management of the GAA’s Games Development budget, development of the National Strategy and the 2012 championship promotion campaign. Following the unanimous ratification by the Council, a number of delegates wished Kieran well in the new role which he will commence on April 8th.

Munster PRO Ed Donnelly confirmed the date for the launch of the Munster Senior Championships as Monday May 13th in the Mallow GAA Complex. Munster CEO Simon Moroney was confirmed as Munster GAA’s appointment to the Governing Body of the Limerick Institute of Technology.

Following a request for both counties, the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Football Minor Championship first round game between Clare and Waterford fixed for an evening throw-in at Fraher Field Dungarvan on Saturday April 20th has been moved to 2:30pm on the same date.

Finally, a special presentation was given to Br. Dormer (Limerick) on the completion of his five years as Munster Cumann na mBunscol delegate.
