Below you will find some information on the traffic plan in place for the funeral of Páidí Ó Sé in case it may be of use to any of your members who intend to travel for the funeral. As the Ventry area is rural, roads are narrow and parking is minimal and so we would ask any clubs that intend sending buses or coaches of mourners, to inform us in advance in order that we can make arrangements to accommodate them.

A one way system will be in place both days and stewards will direct traffic accordingly. This will run west from Sear’s cross in Ventry village to Árd a’Bhóthair, north for 100 metres on the clasach road from Árd a’Bhóthair and turn east through Ráth Fhionnáin to Ventry again. If the event of significant congestion, traffic returning through Ráth Fhionnáin will be directed back towards Dingle via Baile an Eanaig rather than Ventry.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Liam Ó Néill has expressed his sympathies on behalf of the GAA to the Ó Sé family on the passing of former Kerry footballer and manager Páidí who passed away suddenly this morning.

He said: “There was hardly a person on the island of Ireland, never mind in the GAA, who did not recognise or know of Páidí Ó Sé, such was his contribution to the Association and to Irish life over a prolonged period.

“His excellence on the field of play in what was the greatest football team of all time still stands out to those of us who saw it and his passion for the game in no way ended with the completion of his playing days.

“His elevation to management, firstly at U21 level but then at senior, saw his reputation further embellished and he is one of the few people to have succeeded in claiming All-Ireland honors both as a manager and a player after a distinguished career that stretched far beyond his native Kerry.

“Páidí’s affection for the Irish language and Irish culture in general were other hall marks of a man who was steeped in the area he called home.

“On behalf of the wider GAA family I extend my condolences to his wife Máire, his daughters Siún and Neasa, son Pádraig Óg, brother Tomás and the wider Ó Sé family including his nephews Darragh, Tomás and Marc, all of whom followed his example in the green and gold of Kerry.”

Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.

Tá a chomhbhrón féin agus comhbhrón Chumann Lúthchleas Gael curtha in iúl ag Uachtarán na heagraíóchta, Liam Ó Néill do theaghlach Pháidí Uí Shé, laoch peile agus bainistíochta Chiarraí a bhásaigh gan choinne ar maidin inniu.

Dúirt sé: “Ní ag baill Chumainn Lúthchleas Gael amháin a bhí aithne agus eolas ar Pháídí Ó Sé de bharr a raibh déanta aige don eagraiócht  agus do shaol na hÉireann leis na blianta.

“Tá cuimhne ghléineach againne a chonaic é ar a shárchumas ar pháirc na himeartha le linn dó a bheith ina bhall den fhoireann ab fhearr a facthas riamh agus níor tháinig deireadh lena dhúil sa chluiche nuair a d’éirigh sé as an imirt.

“Chuir sé lena cháil mar bhainisteoir Faoi 21 ar dtús agus ansin mar bhainisteoir sinsir agus bhí ar dhuine den bheagán a thug an chraobh leo  i bPáirc an Chrócaigh mar bhainisteoir agus mar imreoir. Ní dá chontae féin amháín  a chuaigh a chuid scileanna bainistióchta i dtairbhe.

“Níor cheill sé riamh ach an oiread a ghrá don Ghaeilge, don chultúr agus dá cheantar dúchais.

“Ar son na heagraíochta fré chéíle, ba mhaith liom comhbhrón a chur in iúl dá bheanchéíle Máire, dá chlann Siún, Neasa agus Pádraig Óg, dá dhearthair Tomás, a chuid nianna Darragh, Tomás agus Marc a bhain clú agus cáil amach freisin i ngeansaí Chiarraí.
