All Ireland Poc Fada Championships 2011

Brendan Cummins secured the 2011 Poc Fada Craobh na hEireann title on Annaverna mountains in Cooley, County Louth. Tipperary’s All Star goalkeeper went around the 5km mountain course in 50 pucks. A delighted Cummins won by a four-puck margin over 2010 Poc Fada champion Graham Clarke of Down. Cummins said afterwards that the all Ireland title, in this the 50th year of the contest, ranked special to him. Cummins along with Down’s Karol Keating claimed the Comortas Beirte (Pairs) title with a combined score of 108 pucks.

The All-Ireland Poc Fada competition will take place on Saturday July 30th on the Cooley Mountains.

An Poc Fada – The Competition

The Poc Fada All Ireland Finals Championship is the only national contest for individual players of both Camogie & Hurling competing in their relevant categories. Since 2006 they must qualify via County and Provincial finals (prior to 2006 Counties could nominate players to compete in the Provincial finals).

At present there are four categories

Seniors, Camogie, Boys U16 and the Comórtas Beirte (Pairs – Senior Hurlers).
