Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-11 v 0-10 Kilmaley @ Cusack Park, Ennis 12:45

First half goals from player of the match Iris Kaiser had Newmarket on Fergus on their way to winning the McMahon Cup.   The Newmarket girls put a stop to Kilmaley’s bid for three in a row in winning back the title of County Champions for the first time in five years.  Aine O’Brien had four points from play for the winners while Kilmaley will rue some missed chances, notabley the first half penalty from Claire McMahon.

Newmarket were sharper though on the day and looked in control after the first quarter ended.  They went in at the break having had the aid of a strong wind, with a seven point lead.  Kilmaley battled hard though in the second and had the lead back to two after 47 minutes.  Newmarket had weathered the storm though and with Sharon McMahon getting their first score of the second period with 48 minutes gone, the Champions pushed on and won by seven points.

The will now represent Clare in the Munster Intermediate Club Championship where they will take on Cork side Mallow in the semi-final.
