2008 All-Star Hurling Awards Announced

Five players from Munster counties have been selected on the 2008 All-Star Hurling team – Brendan Cummins, Conor O’Mahony, Shane McGrath (all Tipperary), Ben O’Connor (Cork) and Eoin Kelly (Waterford). The county breakdown is: Kilkenny (9), Tipperary (3), Cork (1), Waterford (1) and Galway (1).

2008 All-Star Football Awards Announced

Four Kerry players have been selected on the 2008 All-Star Football team – Tomás Ó Sé, Declan O’Sullivan, Colm Cooper and Kieran Donaghy. The county breakdown is: Tyrone (7), Kerry (4), Westmeath (2), Armagh (1) and Dublin (1). Tommy Walsh (Kerry) won the Young Footballers of the Year award.

2008 All-Star Football Award Nominations

The nominations for the 2008 Vodafone Football All-Stars have been announced. The All Stars Banquet will take place on October 17th.

13 of the 45 Football All-Star nominations are from Munster counties. The Vodafone GAA All Star Football nominees (from Munster) for 2008 are –

Defenders
– Anthony Lynch (Cork), Marc O’Se (Kerry), Graham Canty (Cork), Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry), Tomas O’Se (Kerry)

Midfielders – Darragh O’Se (Kerry), Seamus Scanlon (Kerry)

Forwards – Michael Cussen (Cork), Pearse O’Neill (Cork), Declan O’Sullivan (Kerry), Colm Cooper (Kerry), Kieran Donaghy (Kerry), Tommy Walsh (Kerry)

The county breakdown is – Tyrone (10), Kerry (9), Cork (4), Wexford (4), Dublin (3), Galway (3),`Fermanagh (3), Westmeath (3), Armagh (2), Cavan (1), Derry (1), Kildare (1) and Monaghan (1).

The final selection will be announced on October 15th, two days prior to the All-Stars Banquet at the City West Hotel.

2008 Inter-Provincial Championship Semi-Finals

Munster defeated Ulster by 2-14 to 1-12 in the 2008 Inter-Provincial Hurling Championship Semi-Final played at Fermoy. Munster led by 2-5 to 0-5 at the interval thanks to goals by Eoin Kelly (Waterford) and Seamus Callanan (Tipperary). Ulster replied with a second half goal by Antrim’s Shane McNaughton but Munster finished strongly to ensure a place in the final by a five point winning margin. Munster will now play Leinster in the Hurling Final on Saturday.

Munster also defeated Ulster in the 2008 Inter-Provincial Football Championship Semi-Final, winning a low scoring game by 1-5 to 0-5 with Munster captain Nicholas Murphy scoring the all important goal. Munster will now play Connacht in the Football Final on Saturday.

Munster Club Camogie Championship Final

Drom & Inch (Tipperary) defeated Douglas (Cork) by 2-8 to 1-5 in the Munster Senior Club Camogie Championship Final played at Mahon, Co. Cork on Saturday afternoon.

2008 Inter-Provincial Championships

The 2008 Inter-Provincial Championships Semi-Finals take place on Saturday October 25th. At Fermoy (note change of venue), Munster will play Ulster in hurling at 1:30pm followed by the football semi-final at 3:00pm between the same provinces. The Finals are scheduled for Portlaoise on Saturday November 1st.
